FOOD AND WINE PAIRING AT ROCKWAY VINEYARDS December 14, 2017 Forty-six members and guests attended a marvelous event at Rockway Vineyards on December 14. Our special friends at Rockway put on a terrific food and wine pairing evening where both food and wine were generously available to attendees. The evening began with a choice (or both) of a Patio 9 White or the newly released 9 Pink, served during the registration and reception portion of the event. Nick Merola, chapter vice president, introduced a number of new members and guests, followed by Ted Han, who introduced the winery staff (Karli, Darlene and Chris) and banquet staff (Brittany and Shelley) who made the evening so memorable. The food was prepared by Chef Stefan Olk and his staff (Kylie, Cole and Nick). Chef Stefan had to leave early to prepare for his wedding the following Saturday! Karli Roberts, Rockway’s retail manager began by telling us how and why she paired the selected wines with the food. This is Karli, with Chris from the Wine Shop

Forty-six members and guests attended a marvelous event at Rockway Vineyards on December 14. Our special friends at Rockway put on a terrific food and wine pairing evening where both food and wine were generously available to attendees. The evening began with a choice (or both) of a Patio 9 White or the newly released 9 Pink, served during the registration and reception portion of the event. Nick Merola, chapter vice president, introduced a number of new members and guests, followed by Ted Han who introduced the Winery (Karli, Darlene and Chris) and banquet staff (Brittany and Shelley) who made the evening so memorable. Then Karli Roberts, retail manager and the person who paired the wines with the food prepared by Chef Stefan Olk (who left early because he's getting married on Saturday) and his staff (Kylie, Cole and Nick), told us about how and why she paired the wines with the food.

Attendees grazed between five food stations, each paired with at least one wine. Interestingly enough, different guests each had their own favourites. The meatballs and 2013 Meritage competed with the duck confit ravioli and Unoaked Chardonnay for best pairing among those I surveyed. The pulled pork with coleslaw and 2015 Cabernet Franc was very much appreciated, but many enjoyed the charcuterie, cheese and pickled vegetables paired with a choice of the 2013 Merlot and/or the 2014 Riesling, as well.

Finally, the pear, gorgonzola and balsamic vinaigrette flatbread and Riesling Icewine pairing closed out the evening
