three years as a dramatic slowdown in the Swiss food giant's previously strong emerging markets business

was compounded by continuing weakness in Europe and the Americas. Access to the full article here.

A recent article by Dealbook suggests the country’s largest brewer, Anheuser-Busch InBev, has agreed to

sell the United States rights to several foreign brands, including the top-selling Corona, in a deal that

regulators say will ensure competition in beer prices. Access to the full article here.

What We’re Reading

The horse-meat storm that broke over Europe two months ago has been in one respect a tempest in a

horseshoe, because it posed no threat to human health. That is not a minor caveat in an industry where, in

the U.S. alone, tainted food kills 3,000 people each year and sickens 48 million. Access to the full article

here.

Horse-Meat Scandal Exposes Weakness in Global Food Chain

Lower Gasoline, Food Prices Subdue U.S. Consumer Inflation

After an active finish to 2012 and a slow start to 2013, HW&Co. has seen pitch activity increase

substantially across numerous consumer sectors, including food & beverage. Both strategic and private

equity buyers continue to voice a strong desire for leading food & beverage assets, especially companies

with the proven ability to defend against margin pressures.
