Cancer Epidemiology. Bio,narkers & Prevention publishes original re-search on cancer causation and prevention in humans, linking three pre-

viously unintegrated disciplines: epidemiology, biomarkers, and preven-

tion. Topics include descriptive, analytical, biochemical, and molecular

epidemiology: the use of biomarkers to study the neopla.stic and preneo-

plastic processes in humans: chemoprevention and other types of preven-

tion trials: and the role of behavioral factors in cancer etiology and

prevention. Manuscripts that address individual subjects in any of the threedisciplines are welcome as well as manuscripts with an interdisciplinary

approach. All submissions undergo peer review. Papers should be sent

MAYO FOUNDATION

The Section of Clinical Epidemiology at Mayo Clinic. in

collaboration with the Mayo Cancer Center, is seeking a

molecular/genetic epidemiologist to fill a new position in

our large and active group. This position presents an excit-

ing opportunity for the successful candidate to conduct

population-based molecular epidemiologic studies of the

occurrence. etiology. and outcomes of cancers. as well as

evaluations of’ the impact of diagnostic and therapeutic

interventions in these conditions.

Applicants should have a strong methodologic training in

epidentiology with evidence of research productivity in mo-

lecular epidemiology as reflected by peer-reviewed publi-

cations and a demonstrated ability to attract extramural

research funding. This individual will he expected to de-

velop an independent program of research in collaboration

with clinical and laboratory investigators.

The Mayo Clinic. with a research budget in excess of S 130

million per year. provides an t)utstanding environment for

conducting molecular epidemiologic research. Resources

include: The Rochester Epidemiology Project. with its link-

age of’ medical records for residents of’ Olmsted County hack

to the early l900s. a large referral practice as reflected by

over 150,000 cases recorded in the Mayo Tumor Registry.

tissue archives from the local and referral practice. and an

exceptional collaborative atmosphere among clinicians, ha-

sic scientists, epidemiologists. and hiostatisticians.
