FOMAX 7

INTRODUCTION

A mechanical blower generator is similar in appearance to a smoke ejector (Figure 1). It operates on the same principle as the water-aspirating nozzle except that air is forced through the foam spray by a powered fan instead of being pulled through by water movement. This device produces finished foam with high air content and is typically associated with total flooding applications. Its use is limited to high-expansion foam concentrates.

CONSTRUCTION

1. The instrument is made using yellow glass fibre casing, installed with corrosion resistant pipework and fittings and maintenance free turbine. 2. By-Pass System. Water by-pass system fitted allowing performance to be

maintained when working with high back pressures. Unit is capable of ducting foam to minimum height of 15 metres or into equivalent back pressures. By controlling the inlet pressure and the by-pas, the foam properties can be varied to suit operational circumstances. 3. Fan Speed Regulator. The fitted automatic pressure control regulates the fan speed

and prevents over running of the turbine. 4. Expandable Ducting. Installed for ejecting bubbles into the path (ducting) and made from 'polythene tubing' which it is easy to install. 5. Smoke Extractor Version. This dual purpose model can be used to extract smoke at the rate of 285m³/min at 7 bars. PURPOSE OF FOMAX 7

The purpose of mechanical blower generator is very suitable for use in areas where the enclosed area such as warehouses, hangars, ships, space engine and so on. This device produces finished foam with high air content to reduce damage of equipment caused by the use of water as well as quick fire fighting.

FOMAX 7 is ideally suited for all total flood applications such as warehouses, ship holds, engine rooms, machinery spaces, electric cable ducting, chemical processing and refining plants and mines. Also effective for specialist applications such as blanketing LNG spill fires, controlling vapour release from toxic or flammable liquid spills and the inverting of tanks. Special units exist for use in fixed systems, smoke extraction applications. OPERATING PROCEDURE

1. Handling foam generator procedure is as follows: a. Simply connect the supply hose to the water inlet and By-pass water is led to waste through a hose length connected to the outlet coupling. b. Insert the foam pick-up tube in a foam compound container.

2. Operating procedures without ‘polythene foam ducting’.

a. Attach the hose to the Coupling of instruction marked "Inlet Pressure". b. If water is to be in the 'by-pass switch to the production host 'Coupling' marked 'By - Pass'. Note: Water that comes from ‘by-pass’ is not mixed with the foam.

3. Operational procedures by using the 'Polythene Foam Ducting':

a. Remove the pins in the 'channel section' of four points in front of the cabinet FOMAX 7. b. Open ducting coils on one side only and do to rectangle section starting from the bottom. Press the four buttons Fourth-ducting to the Cabinet and the 'Ducting' should be facing / forward FOMAX 7 to the fire. c. Connect the hose / water supply to water inlet. d. Install the 'pick-up tube' to put in a barrel of FOM.

CARE AND SERVICE TESTING

Care should be taken in cleaning after use, the following procedure being recommended:

1. The nylon net should be removed, washed thoroughly in clean water and dried. If it has been damaged in use, it should be replaced.

2. The generator should be thoroughly washed with clean water to remove any traces of foam concentrate, foam or salt, (if sea water has been used).

3. All pipework, including the pick-up tube, should be flushed out with clean water.

4. The strainer should be cleared of any debris.

5. The turbine casing should be drained of any residual water.

6. The turbine itself has sealed bearings and requires no maintenance.

CONCLUCION

On completion of this lesson can help the student to do job as a fire fighter more quickly and effectively.
