Little SIR - Ed Puchi (916) 988-1331
I must apologize to Branch 49 membership because I
will be unable to attend our Branch Christmas function. My
absence is because one of my Granddaughters is graduat-
ing from nursing school on December 14 at the same time
as our Christmas party.
To the Branch 49 membership I sincerely wish each one
of you had a joyous and safe Thanksgiving. I wish all mem-
bers have Happy Holidays, a very Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year.
To the 2017 Officers; Ed, Marc, Charley, Jerry, Manuel,
Joel, Neil and Board of Directors; Joe, Fred, Gordon,
Ralph, Gary and Robert thank you for your support, guid-
ance and words of wisdom throughout the entire year.
Your knowledge and steady guidance has allowed my tenure
as Big SIR to be extremely enjoyable. Thank you all.
To the members of SIR’s Branch 49, thank you for al-
lowing me the privilege of serving our Branch as Big SIR
for 2017. To the Branch 49 Officers for 2018 I hope you
have a successful and progressive year.
Vic Brewer - Big Sir
Remember our Sirs Branch 49 Christmas
Luncheon with our fellow Sirs and our guests
of honor, our wives and significant others.
This gathering is a great way to start off our holiday
celebrations. The luncheon is on December 14, 2017 and
the festivities begin at 11:00 a.m. with entertainment and
conversation. We plan on many raffle prizes, so make
sure to buy many tickets so your guest will not be disap-
pointed.
As Christmas and the New Year approach, we are all
planning our family gatherings, whether it be at Grandma
and Granddad's house or enjoying the holidays where the
younger ones in the family do all the work.
I personally wish each and every one of you and your
families a very Merry Christmas and Happy and Healthy
New Year.
Ed Puchi - Little SIR

BOWLING REPORT Chairman: Wayne Philpot
The SIRS 49ers have completed
three months of bowling at noon on
Wednesdays at Fireside Lanes in Cit-
rus Heights. There is about one month
left in the first half. We still have
three vacancies . If you would like to
bowl full-time or as a substitute, please let me know.
Our branch has eight bowlers spread out over six teams,
none of these six teams are in first or second place.
The book averages, high scratch games, and high
scratch series for our eight bowlers are as follows:
John McKim 167-220/574;
Ray Jerd 155-202/548;
Don Yarwood 178-214/581;
Dick Martegani 174-223/601;
Franklin Call 95-162/395;
Wayne Philpot 176-224/573;
Bob Stewart 135-169/492;

Branch 49 Golf Club
Chairman: Don Fuller, 916-791-4581
Asst. Chairman: Ron Schultze, 984-4159
Treasurer: Jack DuBe, 989-9131
Tournament Chairman: Frank Haener
Handicap Chairman: Bill Bertsch
Course Procurer:
Secretary, Verne Buer, 988-4514
At Granite Bay, Tom Baker won the A flight with a net 69.
Al Edwards won the B flight with a net 70. Ray Fischer
won the C flight with a net 77.
At Antelope Greens we held our annual three clubs and
a putter tournament. This is always a fun competition as
it makes everyone think a little more and try out shots
that we would not normally make. Bill Bertsch shot a fan-
tastic net 49 to win the A flight. Apparently he is very
good and creative golf shots and thinking. Jerry Thomas
won the B flight with a net 53.
Castle Oaks was very challenging as it was cart path
only and there were many holes that required long walks
to reach our balls. Gary Veffredo continued his winning
ways to win the A flight with a net 63. Ron Peters won
the B flight with a net 65.
We had an outstanding turnout at our annual end of
year and Awards luncheon that was again held at Cattle-
men’s restaurant. As usual the food was delicious. And
once again our treasurer was very popular playing Santa
Claus and giving out lots of cash.
2017 was a very successful year.
I want to wish everyone a very merry Christmas.
I expect that everyone will work diligently on
their golf game in the off season and have their A game
ready for the 2018 season, which is not that far away.
Don Fuller
We are now in the winter bonus tour-
naments. Last year was one big rain event and we did
not have very many tournaments. So far this year we
have had very little rain. Although we did have hurri-
cane force winds at Mather.
We began the season by joining Sir Area 15 golf and
we got to play at some very nice country clubs. We
were able to play at Sierra View, Serrano, and Granite
Bay. While they are pretty to look at, they are quite
challenging. At Sierra View, Ron Schultze won the A
flight with a net 64. Ed Puchi won the B flight with a
net 66. Fred Jacobs edged out Dale Johnson to win the
C flight as both shot net 66’s. At Serrano, Gary Vef-
fredo (our recently named player of the year) won the
A flight with a net 69. Mark Funk edged out Bob
Haines to win the B flight as both shot net 68’s. Gene
Phelps won the C flight with a net 75.
SIR Br 49 golf club
golfer of the year,
Gary Veffredo.

Paul Kuzmich has had surgery and is now undergoing
Chemotherapy for bladder cancer. He is home and
hopeful, and plans to resume his regular schedule
ASAP.
Ron Loghry had a heart attack about the middle of
November. He is home and working hard on his exer-
cise program, suffered no permanent damage, and we
look forward to seeing him back on the golf course in
the spring.
Ron Carpenter continues to rehab from his knee re-
placement, and may be back in the fold after the
first of the year.
Ken Dethlefs passed away on Nov 22nd. (See ‘In mem-
oriam’)
Norm Boyer’s wife had a nasty fall in November, bro-
ken hip, which has been replaced. At last hearing, she
is in a rehab hospital, and struggling with her recov-
ery. We send her and Norm our beat wishes and
prayers for recovery, as we do for the wives of Karl
Ryden, Joe LaPilusa.
