FOlly beachcOMe visit
Folly Beach County Park – One of the most spectacular parks in the country with access to ocean-front beaches; offering visitors rentals of everything from beach umbrellas to boogie boards. There’s a great picnic area as well as public restrooms. The Pelican Watch shelter is available for rent year-round and comes equipped with an oyster roaster, volleyball court, picnic tables and covered deck.
Loggerhead Turtle Watch – Every year between May and September female log-gerhead turtles come ashore to make their nests and lay eggs on Folly Beach. The hatchlings flee the nests at night to make their journey to the water where they will eventually find the Gulf Stream.
Folly River Landing – This public landing offers a four lane boat ramp for access to Folly River and the Atlantic Ocean.
The Fishing Pier – The Pier hosts several fishing competitions throughout the summer as well as monthly “Moonlight Mixers” for an opportunity to dance the night away under the stars. Don’t miss the great 2nd story dolphin watch.
The Washout – Some say the best surfing on the East Coast can be found at the Washout. This great spot is the host to many year-round surf competitions. If surfing is not for you, then come to see the most spectacular sunsets in the Carolina’s.
Morris Island Lighthouse – For over centuries, this lighthouse has been an icon of the Carolina coastline. Located off the northern tip of Folly Beach, the Morris Island Lighthouse was origi-nally built thousands of feet inland on May 30, 1767. Due to beach erosion and the ever-changing coastline, Morris Island Lighthouse now stands several hundred yards off-shore surrounded by swift ocean currents. Folly Beach is as close as one can get to the lighthouse as there is no public access to Morris Island itself.
