considering they didn’t have a spring last year, but NCSt has a solid home field edge (5-1 SU/ATS LY) and they’ve got a huge edge on defense so we like the ‘Pack to win by 3 td’s.TENNESSEE by 41 over Bowling Green- Tenn opened with BG back in ‘15 and beat a much better Falcons team 59-30 (-21’). New HC Heupel is known for his offense after his time as OC at Missouri and HC at UCF. Heupel tutored first round DC’s Sam Bradford and Drew Lock. He has brought in two experienced transfer QB’s in Joe Milton (Mich) and Hendon Hooker (VTech). BG went 0-5 last year including a 28 point loss to Akron and finished -149 ypg. This is Loefler’s 3rd year but the Falcons are actually one of the youngest teams in CFB with only 11 starters back. The Vols only have 12 starters back themselves but they added a slew of talented transfers at WR, DL and LB. Despite losing more players to the portal than any other school, the Vols are still a fairly talented SEC team that won 8 games just 2 years ago. Tenn does have Pitt on deck but Heupel won’t hold back in his first game in Knoxville and Loefler is 0-9 as an AD.Ohio St by 16 over MINNESOTA - Minnesota enters the ssn with the most exp’d tm in the country, while the Buckeyes rank #129. HC PJ Fleck believes 1st tm All-B1G Mohamed Ibrahim is one of the best plyrs in the nation, and Tanner Morgan is a very steady QB (46/18 for his career). The Gophers have lost 11 in a row to the Buckeyes, including 13 straight at home. In their last mtg, Minn was +30 and only lost 30-14 in ‘18. OSU has not lost a reg ssn game since ‘18 and seem to have hit another gear. The Buckeyes returning QB’s are without a career pass att for the first time since ‘52 and is on the road vs a B10 tm to open the ssn for just the second time since ‘75, but the Buckeyes have the best WR room in the country and have a huge talent edge. OSU is 6-1 as an AF under Ryan Day and while we do think Minn will be competitive, our lean is with the Buckeyes.FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 3RDNorth Carolina by 9 over VIRGINIA TECH - The home team is 4-0 ATS in this series with NC win-ning a shootout last year 56-45. The Tar Heels jumped to a 21-0 lead, put up 656 yards and finished with a +161 yd edge. NC has a slight experience edge with 18 starters back (#70) while VT brings back 15 (#98). QB Howell will likely be a first round DC and while the Heels lost their top 2 RB’s and top 2 WR’s they added Tenn transfer RB Chandler and still have solid experience at WR. NC was without their RB’s and WR’s in LY’s Orange Bowl yet they still led A&M in the 4Q. The Hokies were 0-5 SU/ATS when RB Herbert didn’t top 100 rush yards LY and he is gone. NC ran for 399 yds vs VT LY and all 5 OLine starters return, while VT lost 2 Dline starters and lack depth after recent departures. The Hokies have lost 8 games in Blacksburg in the last 3 years and we don’t think NC will be intimidated by Enter Sandman so we’ve got the Heels by more than a td.WAKE FOREST by 28 over Old Dominion- First meeting but these campuses are only 174 miles apart. WF had won 10 straight home openers until LY’s loss vs Clemson but they are only 4-7 in those. ODU has covered 3 straight vs ACC foes and upset VTech in ‘18 as a 27’ pt dog. Former PSU OC Ricky Rahne finally gets to make his debut after ODU was the only CUSA school to sit out the Covid season. WF has a huge experience edge (#27 vs #127) but they took a hit with #2 WR Greene and RT Nash getting hurt & OFY. ODU added some transfers including QB Darriel Mack (UCF) and we think they will be a little more competitive this season and Clawson isn’t the type to run it up so our lean is with the underdog Monarchs.Duke by 17 over CHARLOTTE - Duke makes their first trip to Charlotte. LY the Blue Devils entered 0-6. They used big plays and good field position to jump to a 24-0 lead. Duke rushed for 299 yards and won 53-19 despite only 401-348 yd edge and UC actually had a 22-16 FD edge. Both teams are inexperienced and Duke must replace their starting QB but they can’t get worse play at the position after LY’s starter only hit 55% w/a 10-15 ratio. HC Cutcliffe makes a living off beating Non-P5 foes, going 20-1 SU/17-4 ATS and UC is 0-6 SU/1-5 ATS vs P5 foes with their avg loss by 40 ppg. HC Healy is 3-0 as a HD but Duke only has FCS NC A&T on deck and Cutcliffe will want Duke to get off to a strong start to bounce back off a 2 win season.NORTHWESTERN by 7 over Michigan St- NW is out for revenge after shooting themselves in the foot in the 4Q of LY’s matchup, dropping the game 29-20 as 13-pt AF. This game was the only reg-ssn loss for the Wildcats, who have dropped two in a row to the Spartans for the first time in nearly a decade. Michigan St added Temple transfer Anthony Russo to compete with Peyton Thorne (3 st, 582, 3-3), while Clemson transfer PS#1 QB Hunter Johnson takes the reigns for the Wildcats. Northwestern was 8-1 ATS LY, the only blemish courtesy of the Spartans. Mich St is more experi-enced and added a slew of transfers but Fitzgerald really likes this team and we think the ‘Cats get some revenge.SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 4THMICHIGAN by 10 over Western Michigan- WM is 0-5 ATS since ‘02 and 0-7 SU all-time vs Mich but the Broncos are 4-1 ATS in their L5 ssn openers, including at #4 USC when they lost by 18 as 27’ dogs in ‘17. WM is 3-0 ATS in road openers. Mich has their big game vs Wash on deck and are 3-9 ATS vs non-conf L3Y. WMU ranks 21st in exp. while Mich is 120th. WMU returns 94.7% of it’s ‘big play’ D (13th) while Mich returns just 54.1% of it’s yds on offense (101st). The Broncos have the edge on offense (#29 vs #40) with returning QB Kaleb Eleby (18/2 ratio), while the Wolverines have the edge on Def (#70 vs #105) & ST’s (#40 vs #100). Mich lost SU to MSU as 22 pt home favorites in last year’s opener and were taken to 3OT as DD favorites at Rutgers LY so we won’t be surprised if the Broncos keep this closer than expected.GEORGIA ST by 4 over Army - Only prior mtg was back in ‘19 when GSt (+4’) hosted Army and pulled the outright upset 28-21. GSt also has all spring and fall camp to prep for the option and they do have the benefit of facing GSthrn every year who runs the option. GSt’s offense returns QB Brown, a talented set of RB’s, an exp’d WR unit and 137 career sts on the OL. They will face an Army D that held foes to 275 ypg & 15 ppg LY & returns 8 st’rs. The 14 career sts returning for Army this ssn are the most since 2017 & their offense should be improved from their 318 ypg LY. GSt is 4-2 ATS the L2Y as single digit chalk & Army went 0-2 ATS LY as an away dog. Army has also lost 4 straight road openers (1-3 ATS). Like their previous meeting in ‘19 we expect this game to be close & the Panthers should be able to come away with a close win.† Kansas St by 3 over Stanford - Game is in Arlington, TX. The only other mtg between these tms was the ‘16 opener when KSt traveled to “The Farm” and lost to Stanford 26-13. Stanford returns 14 st’rs but must replace QB Mills and there’s a chance both QB’s vying for the starting job will play. Stanford did allow 439 ypg & 32 ppg LY but return 8 st’rs on D however they face a KSt offense that brings back veteran QB Thompson, eletric playmaker Deuce Vaughn & all 5 OL st’rs. KSt does return 6 st’rs on defense led by S McPherson & an exp’d KSt secondary that could cause fits for the opposing QB’s. Stanford is just 2-5 ATS the L3Y in non-conf games & are playing this game at 10 am local time. KSt HC Klieman comes in with a 15-8 ATS record overall. We think this will be a close gm, but will lean slightly with KSt and their veteran dual-threat QB & KSt is #88 in exp while Stanford comes in at just #118 on that exp list.KENTUCKY by 31 over Ulm- UK is 4-1 SU against ULM and have won the last 4 mtgs (loss in 1994). The Cats won the most recent meeting in 2014 48-14 (-21). KY was just 2-10 ATS as a double-digit favorite heading into last year but they did cover all 4 in that role last year. ULM is only 5-10 ATS as double-digit dogs. ULM has a slight experience edge (#86 vs #123) but the WarHawks are coming off an 0-10 ssn where they never had a lead all ssn. HC Bowden has probably added a slew of transfers but has kept much of his roster a secret and practices are closed to gain a competi-tive edge. HC Stoops added Penn St transfer Will Levis and new OC Liam Coen spent the last 3 years as an asst with the LA Rams to revamp the passing game. The ‘Cats have their SEC opener on deck but Bowden’s secrecy won’t be enough to keep this game close.

KEY SELECTIONS4H West Virginia over MARYLAND - These old rivals met every year from 1980-2007 & again from 2010-15 but have not met since then. Overall WVU is 28-22-2 in this series and dating back to ‘04 WVU has gone 9-1 SU & 7-3 ATS against the Terps. In the last mtg in ‘15 WVU (-16’) outgained Maryland 601-326 & won 45-6 on the road. Maryland returns 17 st’rs incl QB Tagovaila and 9 start-ers on D. WVU’s offense brings back 8 st’rs incl QB Doege and 1,000-yd RB Brown. The WVU D allowed just 20 ppg and 291 ypg a ssn ago & brings back 8 st’rs from that unit. LY Maryland faced tough DEF’s in N’Western & Indiana & they scored a comb’d 14 pts. Maryland is just 4-7 ATS as an underdog under HC Locksley & we think the WVU D will step up along with their veteran offense to propell the Mountaineers to a DD road win. FORECAST: West Virginia by 113H NAVY over Marshall- First mtg and MU hasn’t played a service academy s/’97. Navy had won 5 straight home openers prior to LY’s blowout loss to BYU but the Middies were at a huge disad-vantage having not tackled in practice since the prior ssn. Navy has 14 starters back and should be much improved now that they benefit from spring practices. The Middies have a huge coaching edge with Nuimatalolo looking to bounce back off a rare losing season while the Herd have Charlie Huff making his debut and was never a coordinator prior. Just since the spring ended MU has lost 3 of their projected starting OL including AA RG Cain Madden and must replace a 2x 1st Tm CUSA RB. Navy has their top 9 tkl’rs back and Nuimatalolo is 8-4 as a HD. The Herd get extra time to prep for the option but they’ve never seen it before and this is a brand new staff. Nuimatalolo is confident in his team and we think they start the season with a road upset! FORECAST: NAVY by 6 3H Lsu over UCLA - First meeting. LSU has opened with a Pac-12 foe on 4 occasions since 2004, winning all 4. UCLA started the season with a 44-10 (-17’) home win over Hawaii. The Bruins finished with a 392-269 yd edge and led 31-3 at half but TO’s and ST’s miscues did lead to 17 of UCLA’s points. LSU brings back 18 starters and while they will be w/o QB Myles Brennan, Max Johnson proved plenty capable last year (59%, 8-1) leading the Tigers to upset wins over Florida (+23’) and Ole Miss (+1’). UCLA has the experience edge but LY’s LSU team was the least experi-enced in the country with just 5 starters back so they are due for a big bump in production. We think the Tigers have the edge in all 3 phases and UCLA didn’t look nearly as good as last week’s final score indicated. Orgeron is 16-6 ATS on the road during his stint at LSU while Chip Kelly is only 6-11 ATS at home. LSU was bounced in their opener LY but this more experienced team won’t let that happen again so we will call for LSU to win by nearly 2 td’s. FORECAST: Lsu by 13

OTHER SELECTIONS2H † Texas Tech over Houston - Game played in Houston Texans stadium. These former SWC foes have met 32 times & HOU leads the all-time series 18-13-1 but TTU has won the last 3 mtgs. Their last matchup came in ‘18 when these tms comb’d for 1339 yds & 112 pts as TTU won 63-49. TTU returns 16 st’rs and while QB Colombi is back (4 sts LY) the new QB starter is Oreg transfer Tyler Shough. TTU also brings back their top 2 RB’s, top 2 WR’s and they also add WR Geiger from Troy (1625, 11.5, 8 td L2Y) TTU also returns 8 st’rs on D. HOU brings back 9 st’rs on both sides of the ball incl talented & exp’d QB Tune, but they did lose 2 of their top 3 WR’s. HOU’s exp’d secondary will get tested against a talented TTU pass attack. The Cougars were 0-3 ATS LY as an underdog & we think TTU with their talented & balanced offense will be able to put up points and get enough stops on defense to take down the Cougars by 10 pts. FORECAST: Texas Tech by 102H Louisiana Tech (+) over MISSISSIPPI ST- MSU has won 4 mtgs vs LT since 2011 including the last mtg in 2018 when MSU were in an SEC sandwich but crushed LT 45-3 (-23’). LT brings back 17 starters but QB Luke Anthony suffered a gruesome leg inj in their bowl game and might be unavailable. HC Holtz added WV transfer Austin Kendall (orig Oklahoma) so they do still have some experience and a talent upgrade. MSU got off to a hot start last year, beating LSU as a 16’ pt dog but this time they are laying more than 3 td’s. LT only had 1 starter back on defense last year and gave up 34.7 ppg but this time they return 10 starters and add 3 P5 transfers in the secondary plus they get back their top DE, Willie Baker, who opted out LY. HC Holtz is 0-4-1 as an AD the last 2 years but he was 14-4-1 as an AD from ‘14-’18 and Leach’s squad was 0-4 ATS at home LY. FORECAST: MISS ST by 17

OTHER GAMESTHURSDAY SEPTEMBER 2NDRUTGERS by 17 over Temple - Rutgers is 3-0 SU/ATS in season openers and we won a 4H LPS on the Scarlet Knights in their opener in ‘19. Greg Schiano won as many gms in a shortened ‘20 ssn than the Scarlet Knights had the previous two yrs combined (3). After a ssn away, Temple fans may feel more inclined to make the 63-mile trip to New Brunswick, which could impact Rutgers’ homefield advantage. In just his 2nd yr back after previously spending 11 ssns as HC (‘01-’11), Schiano has already begun redeveloping the rich NJ HS pipeline that the Scarlet Knights simply lacked since his departure. Rutgers has 21 starters returning compared to 14 for the Owls, including QB Noah Verdal (1253, 62%, 9/8). Temple does have Georgia transfer D’Wan Mathis at QB, but these programs seem to be trending in opposite directions.UCF by 1 over Boise St - First mtg. Boise and UCF both return 17 st’rs and both teams have exp’d play at QB. Both teams also have 1st year HC’s, but UCF has veteran Malzahn while Boise has 1st time HC Avalos. Boise is #28 in exp while UCF is #80 in exp. Boise’s DEF held foes to 373 ypg in ‘20 but faces a talented UCF offense that avg’d 568 ypg and 42 ppg LY led by QB Gabriel (3570, 32-4, 60%)! UCF’s DEF was hit with opt outs LY and all’d 492 ypg and 33 ppg but they have 9 st’rs back plus they add some talented transfers. They face a Boise offense led by QB Bachmeier & RB Holani. Boise is 4-1 ATS the L4Y as an AD while UCF is just 3-6 ATS the L2Y as a HF. Though this gm is in the heat & humidity Boise has recent exp playing in Florida as they upset FSU (+6) 36-31 in the ‘19 opener. Avalos played LB at Boise (‘01-’04) and was the DC at Boise (‘12-’18) and knows the culture of the program well. We were surprised to see Boise as nearly a TD dog here & will side with the Broncos to keep this game close & potentially pull the outright upset.† Appalachian St by 7 over East Carolina - Game played in Charlotte. Former FCS Southern Conf foes meet for 32nd time (App 19-12 lead) but 1st mtg as FBS foes. Last mtg was in ‘12 when ECU won 35-13. ECU brings back 20 st’rs incl QB Ahlers and talented RB’s Mitchell & Harris on offense. They do face an App St D that gave up 320 ypg/20 ppg and held foes to 87 ypg under their ssn avg LY and that unit returns 10 st’rs. App St’s offense does return 7 st’rs led by RB Peoples & a talented WR corps, but do bring in a new QB in former Duke/Clemson QB Chase Brice & he faces an ECU D with 10 st’rs back. ECU was 4-1 ATS as a DD dog LY while App St was 1-3 ATS LY vs non-conf foes & 1-4-1 ATS LY away from home. With exp’d talent on both sides the ball for ECU and App St breaking in a new QB we think the Pirates are capable of staying close with App St.NC STATE by 21 over Usf - The last mtg between these two was 2014, NCSt was only -1’ but won 49-17. USF HC Jeff Scott is familiar with NCSt thanks to his long tenure as OC at Clemson and brought over NCar transfer QB Cade Fortin. Wolfpack QB Devin Leary turned the corner last year, hitting 60% with an 8-2 ratio but missed time with Covid early then was OFY with a broken leg. He should be fully healed and faces a USF defense that allowed 441 ypg and 28 ypg more than their foes avg’d LY. The Bulls bring back 18 starters including all 4 on their Dline but that unit struggled last year, allowing 212 rush ypg (5.0) and NCSt counters with 4 returners on the Oline and two RB’s that put up over 600 yards in Bam Knight and Ricky Person. The Bulls should certainly be improved

OTHER COLLEGE GAMES cont from page 4Oklahoma by 24 over TULANE - Tulane has had to move their program to Birmingham, AL due to Hurricane Ida. Tulane is 14-8 ATS vs non-conf opponents under HC Willie Fritz. Oklahoma is just 8-13 the L2Y as double-digit favorites. Oklahoma returns 15 starters including starting QB Spencer Rattler who is the odds-on preseason favorite to win the Heisman trophy at season’s end after throwing for over 3,000 yds (68%, 28/7). The Sooners covered a -34 spread last time these teams met in ‘17, but Tulane is 30-19-1 overall ATS L4Y. Tulane was +59 ypg at home LY and we think they’ll be motivated to keep this closer than expected. The Green Wave are a perfect 6-0 L4Y ATS as home dogs as well. WISCONSIN by 6 over Penn St- Penn St has won the last 4 meetings SU/ATS. LTH in ‘13 the Badgers lost by a TD despite being 24’ pt HF. Wisconsin ranks 60th in exp. while the Nittany Lions are 99th. The Badgers’ returning ‘big play D’ ranks 50th while Penn St is 112th. The Nittany Lions are 3-6 ATS as AD vs B10 foes under HC James Franklin. Penn St is 1-3 ATS in openers, including LY’s outright upset loss to Indiana, and started last ssn 0-5 ATS. Wisconsin QB Graham Mertz was excellent in his opener LY but missed 3 wks w/Covid and wasn’t the same after. Camp Randall will be ‘Jumpin’ Around’ for their first home game of the year against a conf. rival, so we can’t go against the favored Badgers here. ARKANSAS by 11 over Rice- These two haven’t met since Arkansas left the SWC in 1990. Ark has won their last 11 home openers when facing non-conf foes. Ark has 19 starters back including WR Treylon Burks (820, 16.1 LY) but he hasn’t been practicing and could potentially miss this game. Rice did lose starting QB, top WR and top tkl’r, but they got a huge addition in Nebraska transfer Luke McCaffrey and they’ve got 19 starters back as well. Ark played an all SEC schedule last year and not only is Pittman’s squad not used to being a favorite, they were the underdog in all 10 games last year. Rice is 9-4 as an AD. Ark is laying nearly 3 td’s and has Texas on deck and Bloomgren’s style does well as big dogs because there are less possessions and they eat clock so we will take the Owls to keep it closer than expected. OREGON by 20 over Fresno St - Fresno won the F/2 mtgs (‘81-’82) against UO but have lost 7 straight to the Ducks. The last mtg came back in ‘12 when UO (-34’) won 42-25 at home. UO returns 16 st’rs (#101 exp’d team for 2021) and former BC QB Anthony Brown will be the starter. Fresno returns 19 st’rs overall & they are #26 in experience. Their offense is led by Washington QB transfer Haener (2021, 65%, 14-5 LY), a veteran RB Rivers & a talented WR corps. Fresno’s D is also exp’d as they return the top 12 tkl’rs. Fresno blew out UConn 45-0 (538-107) at home last week but now come into a hostile road atmosphere, however Oregon comes in just 3-6 ATS under HC Cristobal against non-conf foes. There’s no doubt UO is the better team but Fresno does have an exp’d & talented team and there is back door potential especially if the Ducks pull starters in the 2H with a big game at Ohio St next week. IOWA by 4 over Indiana- Iowa has dominated this series (won 7 of 8 SU and L/3 ATS), but this is not the same Hoosiers team from year’s past. After their outright upset of Penn St in wk 1, Indiana was rnk’d for the 1st time in over 25 yrs and were top 25 wire-to-wire, finishing #12. The health of QB Michael Pennix Jr. will determine the ceiling of this Indiana team, but they do have a steady backup in Jack Tuttle (362, 61%, 2/1 LY).The Hoosiers went a perfect 7-0 ATS vs B10 LY. Iowa has Iowa St on deck but the Hawkeyes won’t be looking ahead while Indiana gets FCS Idaho. Indiana was -19 ypg LY while Iowa was +55 and the Hawkeyes ended the season on a 6 game winning streak (avg MOV 21.8 ppg) and we think they carry that momentum into this year.CINCINNATI by 28 over Miami, OH- UC has won 14 straight series mtgs and covered the L/3 while Miami did cover 4 straight prior. The Bearcats have Murray St on deck and can focus their energy on this rivalry game, while the Redhawks have a trip to play B1G’s Minnesota. Miami had remark-able ST’s in ‘19 and have a talented QB themselves in underclassmen Brett Gabbert (brother of former Mizzou standout Blaine Gabbert), but it’s hard to imagine a defense that gave up 1,036 yds combined to Ball St and Buffalo in ‘20 being able to slow down the potent attack of Cincinnati and QB Desmond Ridder. The Bearcats were +126 ypg LY, with Ridder scoring 31 total TDs in just 10 gms. Cincinnati is 11-6-1 the L3Y as home favorites ATS, while Miami is just 2-11 ATS the L3Y they played non-conf opponents (3 gms vs MAC foes in ‘20).† Alabama by 16 over Miami, Fl - This game is being played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Tide are 5-0 and have won their last 10 neutral site openers by 25 ppg. UM lost B2B neutral site openers vs SEC foes in ‘18 & ‘19. The Tide must replace their #1QB, #1 RB, two #1DC WR’s and 3 starting OL but virtually had to do the same heading into last year and still won the Nat’l Title. The Tide allowed 19.4 ppg last year which was the most under Saban, but 8 starters are back on defense and the unit is being compared to some of Saban’s best D’s here. Miami returns 19 starters including all 5 starting OL (most car starts returning in country with 190!). QB King is also back and is playing his first game since tearing his ACL in the bowl. Diaz does his best work as an underdog (5-2 ATS) and with Bama’s offense being rebuilt our lean is with the underdog ‘Canes.PITTSBURGH by 35 over UMass- Pitt OC Mark Whipple faces his former team where he served as HC from ‘98-’03 and ‘14-’18). The Minutemen are just 1-15 SU/4-11-1 ATS under HC Walt Bell. This is the first meeting. The last time UMass opened at a Power-5 foe we cashed a 4H LPS when UMass lost at Rutgers 48-21 (+16’). Pitt brings back 14 starters including QB Pickett (2408, 61%, 13-9) but they must replace two NFL DC’s at DE. RB Israel Abanikanda is expected to help Pitt make big strides in the run game. Neither team is great in these roles with Narduzzi only 8-15-1 as a HF while Bell is only 3-14-1 as an underdog. The Panthers will win easily but won’t run the score up and they have a huge game on deck vs Tennessee.MISSOURI by 4 over Central Michigan- First meeting. MO had won 14 straight ssn openers until LY’s loss at Bama but the Tigers are on a 4-7 ATS run in those. CMich has covered 5 of their last 6 season openers including in 2018 when they lost to KY by 15 (+17) and ‘15 when they upset OKSt. The Tigers return 14 starters (#92 exp) and must replace their leading rusher and 5 of their top 9 tkl’rs. CM has 20 starters returning (#18 exp) and got a big addition in Washington transfer QB Jacob Sirmon (PS#7) but HC McElwain has yet to announce a starter. Mizzou has slight edges in all 3 phases. HC McElwain has plenty of experience in the SEC from his time at Florida and Missouri. The Chips are getting nearly 2 td’s here so we don’t mind taking the points.TEXAS by 6 over Louisiana - Third mtg. These tms have met 2 previous times with UT winning 52-10 in ‘00 and 60-3 in ‘05. All-time LA is just 2-20 SU against current B12 foes but one of those wins came LY when they upset Iowa St (+11’) 31-14 in LY’s opener. UT will have a large crowd on hand & LA will have to deal with the noise. However LA does bring back 20 st’rs incl QB Lewis, their top 4 WR’s, 5 starting OL, and their top 13 tkl’rs. LA’s biggest losses are their top 2 RBs who comb’d for over 1600 rush yds LY. Cajuns are also #6 in experience while Texas is down at #109. UT brings back 15 st’rs of their own, but do have a new HC in Sarkisian and are learning new schemes. UT also must replace QB Ehlinger and as of presstime UT has not named a starting QB. Napier is an impressive 7-2-1 ATS as an AD and overall as a dog he is 9-3-1 ATS. Napier’s experienced team will not be afraid of the moment & will hang around with the Longhorns.

USC by 14 over San Jose St - Teams have met 4 previous times with USC winning all 4 by 10+ pts. Their last mtg came back in ‘09 when SJSt actually led 3-0 in 2Q before USC rattled off 56 straight pts & won in blowout fashion (620-121). SJSt returns 19 st’rs from their MW title team LY incl QB Starkel, 5 OL st’rs and the MW DPOY DE Hall. The Spartans biggest losses are their top 2 WR’s from LY who comb’d for 1,352 yds & 8 td. SJSt comes into this game #13 in experience while USC is at #89 on that list. USC brings back 8 st’rs on offense led by talented QB Slovis and on D they return 8 st’rs from a unit that held foes to 58 ypg under their ssn avg. SJSt has already played once this ssn but it was vs an FCS foe & USC will have a large crowd on hand & SJSt will have to deal with a true road environment. HC Brennan knows they will get every tms best shot & will have his squad ready to go. SJSt is 9-3 ATS the L3Y as an AD & USC is just 7-12 ATS as a HF since ‘17 and they are also just 3-9 ATS the L3Y as DD chalk.PURDUE by 7 over Oregon St- Purdue has struggled since the era of Brees/Orton/Painter to find consistent QB play, but LY the Boilmakers seemed to finally hit their stride in the passing game. QBs Jack Plummer and Aiden O’Connell combined for 1,854 yds in just 6 gms vs B1G-only competition (68%,15/2). Plummer has been named the starter for wk 1 but Purdue has two very viable options to lead their offense, which features a plethora of highly touted WRs. While the Beavers have vastly improved under HC Jonathan Smith (8-0 L2Y ATS as road dogs), they relied heavily on former RB Jermar Jefferson (123 ypg) The addition of SC transfer Deshaun Fenwick should help fill the void to a certain extent, but we think Purdue wins by 7, which is right at the current Vegas line.Baylor by 10 over TEXAS ST - 8th all-time mtg. Baylor is 7-0 in the series & this is the first meeting as FBS foes. Their last mtg came in 2007 when Baylor “only” won 34-27. Baylor comes in with 17 ret st’rs (#62 exp) but do have to work in a new QB. Baylor has a strong D that returns 10 st’rs & HC Aranda is a DEF-minded coach & they may have to carry the team early on. TXSt is in year #3 under HC Spavital and return 17 st’rs (#34 exp) incl QB McBride and 9 st’rs on defense. TXSt had 6 losses by 10 pts or less last ssn and they will come to play in front of a packed house at home. Baylor is 6-1 SU s/’12 in non-conf road openers but are just 2-5 ATS in those gms. LY TXSt was 3-1-1 ATS as a home dog & were 4-2-1 ATS LY as a DD dog LY. While Baylor’s talent should be enough for them to win outright, we like TXSt to hang around and keep this game close. OHIO by 3 over Syracuse - Syracuse is 2-0 vs Ohio but last met in 1921. TY Syracuse will be running 2 QB system with Devito (pocket passer) & Miss St transfer Schroeder (dual threat), which could take the offense a little while to get the hang of switching. Ohio has run a 2 QB system for sev-eral years, so the defense has seen in practice for year & are in the 2nd season with Kurtis Rourke (passer) & Armani Rogers (RPO). The Bobcats will be without their long time HC Frank Solich, who retired in the offseason. He is replaced by Tim Albin, the OC here since Solich arrived in ‘05 with the rest of the staff remaining & should only be minor for the season. This is a big game for Ohio as it is the first hosting a ACC team. They last hosted a P5 tm in ‘17 when the beat Kansas 42-30 (-7’). We look for Ohio to get Albin’s HC career off with a win with a solid home edge.AUBURN by 42 over Akron- The Bryan Harsin era begins with the Tigers as more than 5 td chalk. Auburn has 15 starters back including QB Bo Nix who is 10-2 SU/8-4 ATS at home with a 15-1 ratio. Tom Arth’s Akron squad brings back 18 starters but were just 1-5 in an All-MAC schedule LY and -179 ypg while Auburn was -23 ypg against an All-SEC schedule. Akron’s run D allowed 248 ypg (6.3) vs 6 MAC teams LY while Auburn counters with one of the top RB’s in the SEC in Tank Bigsby (834, 6.0). Harsin covered his last 5 as chalk of 20+ points and Arth is 2-6 as a road dog including a 39 pt loss at Illinois in ‘19’s opener. Auburn only has Alabama St next week so they won’t hesitate to put a thorough beating on the Zips here.ILLINOIS by 10 over Utsa- UTSA meets a B10 school for the first time. We used Illinois as our very first 2H in this newsletter then upgraded to a 3H for our LPS and the Illini not only covered but pulled the outright upset 30-22 (+7). Illinois actually led 30-9 3Q despite losing QB Peters in the 1H (Check status). Rutgers transfer Art Sitkowski threw 18 td’s 2Y ago but looked more than capable, hitting 12-15-124-2-0. UTSA returns 21 starters from last year’s 7-5 squad that played UAB and BYU much closer than expected. RB McCormick returns after finishing #2 in FBS in rushing last year (1467, 5.9). Illinois allowed 160 rush (4.1) with over 100 yards coming from Neb’s QB. UTSA does also have a dual threat QB in Frank Harris (528 rush, 5.6). We backed IL last week and we will give them a slight lean here as UTSA was 0-2 ATS as single-digit dogs and we think Bielema has given Illinois renewed confidence.FLORIDA by 18 over Fau- FL has won all 3 prior meetings, with two coming by blowouts but the last meeting in ‘15, FL was -29’ and only won 20-14. FAU brings back 10 starters on both sides of the ball. Their offense only put up 19 ppg last year, partly thanks to subpar QB play but they’ve upgraded the position with two P5 transfers in N’Kosi Perry (PS#18, 9 car sts at Miami) and Michael Johnson (Penn St). Florida only brings back 10 starters and must replace their QB Trask, TE Pitts and WR Toney. New QB Emory Jones is a talented runner but the Gators biggest concerns are at WR and Oline which only paved the way for 131 (4.3) rush ypg. FAU is 26-10-1 as a road dog since 2012 and they’ve got a huge experience edge (#11 vs #121). The Owls are more than 3 td dogs but go from 7 starters back to 20 and we think they hang around long enough to cover.GEORGIA TECH by 21 over Northern Illinois- First mtg. GT has only one other prior mtg vs a MAC foe, beating BG 63-17 (-28’) in ‘18. The Jackets had won 13 straight home openers prior to LY’s loss vs UCF but they’ve failed to cover 3 straight when opening Bobby Dodd Stadium. NIU has 19 starters back but only 6 are Jr’s/Sr’s while GT has 14 Sr’s in their projected starting lineup. QB Jeff Sims should be much improved after only finishing with a 13-13 ratio LY but he’s had a full spring to improve after starting every game his true frosh year. NIU was -51 ypg last year in an all MAC schedule. GT was -69 ypg but if you remove a blowout loss to Clemson they were only -25 ypg. NIU added transfer Rocky Lombardi but he only hit 48% (11-12) in 2Y at Mich St. This is GT’s 3rd year since switching from the option so they are hitting their stride and we call for a 3 td win.† Georgia by 4 over Clemson - This game is being ply’d at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. These two former rivals haven’t met since 2014. Clemson returns 14 starters but must replace Lawrence and Etienne along with their top 2 WR’s but they do get their top 10 tkl’rs back. DJ Uiag-alelei got valuable experience LY but the Tigers were 0-2 ATS in his 2 starts. UGA counters with 13 returning starters including QB JT Daniels (1231, 67%, 10-2). The Dawgs went 4-0 SU/3-1 ATS after Daniels took over late in the season and the offense went from avg 29 ppg and 380 ypg to 37 ppg and 486 ypg. UGA is less experienced on defense but the last we saw Clemson, they were torched by OSU for 639 yards in the playoffs. Dabo is 18-7 ATS on neutral fields but Kirby Smart is 18-2 SU vs non-conference foes. This should be a close game and UGA has the edge on offense and ST’s so we don’t mind taking 3 points with the Dawgs.Southern Miss by 6 over SOUTH ALABAMA - Only prior mtg was LY when SAla went on the road & upset SMiss 32-21 as 13’-pt underdogs in the opener. SMiss hired former Tulane DC Will Hall as their new HC & they bring back 17 st’rs but do lose QB Abraham. However they have WVU transfer Trey Lowe to take over as the full-time starter (3 sts LY). SAla also has a new HC in Kane Wommack, who played TE at SMiss. He was the DC here (‘16-’17) and inherits 17 st’rs & they add former SCar/Utah QB Jake Bentley and he gets to throw to an talented WR unit led by Jalen Tolbert. SAla is just 2-7 ATS in home openers since ‘12 and SMiss is out for revenge after the loss LY to SAla. The Jags opened a new stadium LY but this is their 1st chance for a packed house, but we’ll lean with the revenge-minded Golden Eagles to soar into Mobile & get the win.

38-20 run (66%) L/14 weeks of last year!!! COMPUTERUNDERDOG PLAY OF THE WEEKOver 39 years this play has been a reader favorite and now has a com-bined record of 58% winners over 38 years!! Outright upsets have been a major theme in recent years INCLUDING 5 MORE OUTRIGHT UPSET WINNERS In 2020!!! Here is This week's Underdog Play:

Nevada +3 over CALIFORNIAThese teams first met back in 1899! Overall they have met 26 times & Cal owns the series 22-3-1, but Nevada has won the last 2 mtgs. Their last mtg came in ‘12 when the Wolfpack (+10) went to Berkeley & scored a td with 36 sec left to pull the upset 31-24. Nev returns 20 st'rs & are the #7 in experience entering ‘21. The ‘Pack are led by LY’s MW POY in QB Carson Strong & they also have a strong WR unit with Romeo Doubs (1002, 17.3) and Cole Turner (605, 12.4) both returning and 17 of their top 18 tkl'rs back. Cal brings back 17 st'rs incl QB Garbers and they have a strong defense with 12 of the top 13 tkl’rs returning. Under HC Wilcox Cal is just 1-8-1 ATS as a HF while Nev is 5-2 ATS the L3Y as a single digit dog. While they will play in front of a big crowd, this experienced Nevada squad has an explosive offense & we like HC Jay Norvell and the ‘Pack to go on the road and come away with the outright upset. TEXAS A&M by 28 over Kent St- First meeting. Kent St’s first trip to Texas s/1985. Flashes are 0-15 vs SEC & just 1-8 ATS but covered as a 28’ pt AD vs Ole Miss in ‘08 (38-17). A&M’s only prior vs a MAC tm was a 56-23 win (-30’) over Ball St in ‘15. The Aggies do have a trip to Denver to face Colo-rado on deck. The Aggies must replace their career leading passer Kellen Mond, who was a #3 DC. This will be the first start for Haynes King, who has 4 career pass attempts. The Aggies do return their top 8 receivers & top 2 RB including 1,000 yd rusher Isaiah Spiller. Surprisingly Kent St led by QB Dustin Crum (20-2 ‘ratio LY) has the offensive edge (#17-#24). The Aggies though have a HUGE defensive edge (#36-#127) with 9 starters back from a unit that only allowed 21.7 ppg against an all SEC schedule. Still even Kent St's defense may not stop them, a new QB could struggle & Kent St has great backdoor potential here to keep it under the number.† Byu by 14 over Arizona - Game played in Las Vegas. BYU & Ariz have met 24 times with Ariz holding a slim 12-11-1 lead. However BYU has won the L/2 mtgs & their last mtg was back in ‘18 when BYU (+10’) jumped out to a 28-10 lead 3Q and Ariz’s 4Q comeback attempt fell short (BYU won 28-22). In a year where most tms bring back the majority of their st’rs back BYU returns “only” 11 st’rs and they lose QB Wilson (#2 overall pick NFL) and 7 st’rs from a D that all’d 318 ypg & 15 ppg LY. Ariz has a new HC in Jedd Fisch & despite having 17 st’rs back Fisch added several transfers and they could see the field. Ariz also losses their top QB and RB & they hope to improve after all’g 473 ypg & 40 ppg LY. BYU HC Sitake is 4-2 ATS in neutral site gms & despite being #119 in experience Sitake like the talent he has & we think BYU wins here by 2 td’s despite having rival Utah on deck.SAN DIEGO ST by 27 over New Mexico St - Will be the 13th all-time meeting. San Diego St has dominated the series going 10-1-1. Their last meeting came in ‘19 when the Aztecs (-16) jumped out to a 24-0 lead 3Q in a 31-10 win where they forced 4 TO’s. San Diego St brings back 17 starters including their star RB G. Bell & a talented WR corps. San Diego St does lose their top 3 tkl’rs on D from LY but have 8 starters back & we expect another strong Aztec D in ‘21. New Mexico St does come in 0-1 on the ssn after a 30-3 loss vs UTEP last week, but had a week to work out some kinks on both sides of the ball. New Mexico St HC Doug Martin is just 13-26 ATS as an AD but we expect San Diego St to run a lot which could chew a lot of clock & with this line being above 4 td’s we think the Aggies can keep this game within the large spread.

WASHINGTON ST by 17 over Utah St - These tms have met 3 times but their last matchup came all the way back in 1961! Wash St brings back 18 st’rs incl 10 st’rs on D and they should improve after all’g 462 ypg & 38 ppg LY. However Wash St has a QB battle between LY’s starter de Laura & Tenn transfer Guarantano & no starter has been named as of presstime. USU has a new HC in Blake Anderson (51-37 at Ark St) and former Ark St QB Bonner is the starter for the Aggies. Overall USU brings back 19 st’rs & adds LB Rice (1st Tm SBC LY, 1st Tm MW ‘19). Anderson is 13-18-1 ATS as an AD, but Rolovich is just 5-12-1 ATS as a HF. We expect WSU to come away with the win but this exp’d USU squad under Anderson could keep this game under 3 scores.SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 4THNotre Dame at FLORIDA ST - FSU has lost the last 2 meetings against ND but they were both in South Bend and FSU had won the 3 prior meetings. LY FSU was off a closer than expected game against an FCS foe. Jordan Travis sparked the offense and the ‘Noles actually led 17-14 2Q and covered as 3 td dogs, losing 42-26. ND only has 9 starters back but they did add experienced Wisc transfer QB Jack Coan. The biggest concern for ND is the Oline where they replace 4 starters including two #2 DC’s and a #3 DC. FSU brings back 17 starters and added experienced transfers from UGA, SCar (2), UCF and Ark on defense along with QB McKenzie Milton (UCF) who is coming back from a devastating inj 2 years ago. This is Mike Norvell’s 2nd year here and he will benefit from having a full spring but ND has a huge edge on defense. Call 1-800-654-3448 or goto ncsports.com to get our Sunday Night Marquee for just $12.MONDAY SEPTEMBER 5TH† Louisville vs Mississippi - First meeting. UM returns 17 starters including the SEC’s top return-ing QB, Matt Corral (3337, 71%, 29-14, 506 rush). UL only returns 13 starters and must replace their top RB, top 2 WR’s and 5 of their top 7 tkl’rs but they do get QB Malik Cunningham back (2617, 54%, 609 rush). UL was only 4-7 last year but did finish +75 ypg and suffered 4 close losses. The Rebels have a big edge on offense, but UL has slight edges on defense and ST’s. This will be a fun matchup of two offensive minded coaches. Satterfield is 9-14-3 as a dog since his days at App St but he is also 3-0 ATS in ssn openers including covering twice as a dog. Check out NCSports.com or call us at 1-800-654-3448 and get our Monday Marquee for $12.

However Mich has a big game vs Wash on deck & are 3-9 ATS vs non-conf foes L3Y & we agree with PP and think WMich will be able to hang around & stay within 10 pts. WM is also 3-0 ATS in their L/3 road openers.
