USA CLAIM GOLDEN DOUBLE OVER AUSTRALIA INAUCKLAND, SUPER FINAL TEAMS QUALIFIED

Team USA was the star last weekend in Auckland, New Zealand, has both the men and women's teams claimed the gold

medal at the Water Polo World League Intercontinental Cup, both defeating Australia in their respective finals.

Current Olympic and World champions the American women won with a convincing 10­7, leaving the silver medal to theAustralians.

In the bonze game, Canada beat China 9­8 and Japan finished fifth with an 11­9 win against Kazakhstan.

In the men's tournament, Japan secured the bronze with a 12­7 win over Kazakhstan.

Canada claimed fifth place with a 12­6 win over the hosts, New Zealand, and seventh place went to Argentina, 6­5 winnersover China.

USA, Australia, Canada and China have already secured a spot for the Super Final.

After a first gather in Paris (FRA), the secondleg of the FINA Artistic Swimming WorldSeries heads to Beijing (CHN), where thecompetition will be held at the YingdongNatatorium located in the Olympic SportsCentre.

The three­day event will take place from April20­22 in the Chinese capital, and theprogramme unfolds as follow:

In Paris from March 9­11, China, Italy, Russia and Ukraine all grabbed at least onegold medal over the three­day FINA competition which integrated the annual FrenchOpen.

Russia's Varvara Subbotina and Svetlana Kolesnichenko respectively finish atop ofthe solo technical and solo free ranking. Subbotina scored 92.4445 points for herroutine, while World champion Kolesnichenko accumulated an excellent 95.5000points.

Japanese star Yukiko Inui was second (89.5690) in the solo technical andYelyzaveta Yakhno of Ukraine third (88.2743). Yakhno however took silver (91.5667)in the free routine and Inui claimed bronze (91.0000).

Subbotina and Kolesnishenko (RUS) were the best in the duet technical with94.6415, while China's sisters Jiang clinched gold in the duet free in 92.5667.

The mixed events were topped by pairs from Italy (technical, 88.5930) and Russia(free, 91.9333). Detailed results of the previous meet are available here.

National Federations must participate in a minimum of four legs to be eligible for thetotal prize money (US$ 257'000).

HANGZHOU GEARS UP TO HOST THE 14THSWIMMING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS Hangzhou, known as the Zhejiang provincial capital, is an economic, cultural,science and educational hub for the region.

With a population of more than 8.8 million, Hangzhou stands out as a famoushistoric and cultural city and a renowned touristic city in China. Beautifulenvironment and picturesque scenery will set the tone for the athletes to achieveoutstanding performances.

Team China's most famous swimmers such as Luo Xuejuan, Sun Yang and YeShiwen are set to race their best from December 11­16, 2018, when the 14th FINAWorld Swimming Championships (25m) will take place.

Swimming is very popular with Hangzhou citizens. At the moment, there are about300 swimming pools across the city; primary and middle schools require everystudent to have a good command of swimming skills. Nearly 85% of Hangzhoucitizens have taken part in swimming exercise at least once in their life.

The competition venue of the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) will bethe 10,000 seat Tennis Centre at the spectacular Hangzhou Olympic andInternational Expo Centre. A temporary competition pool and pool deck will beconstructed on top of the main tennis arena.

The warm up and training pool will be located in a temporary building attached to thecompetition venue. The facilities will include sufficient space for athletes' preparationand team areas.

The Hangzhou Olympic and International Expo Centre is only a 15­20min drive frommost of the official hotels, as well as from the international airport.

Around 900 athletes from 160 nations are expected to take part in the WorldChampionships, which will be held in conjunction with the FINA World AquaticsConvention.

The Fédération Internationale de Natation, FINA (founded in 1908) is the governing body for aquatics worldwide. Its five disciplines ­Swimming, Open Water Swimming, Diving, Water Polo and Synchronised Swimming ­ are all included in the Olympic programme. HighDiving is on the World Championships programme since 2013. FINA organises World Championships, World SwimmingChampionships in 25m­pool and World Masters Championships every two years. FINA counts 207 affiliated National Federations onthe five continents and has its headquarters in Lausanne (SUI).
