The specialty chemicals produced by Zschimmer & Schwarz Lahnstein are used as auxiliaries and raw material for the manufacture of man-made fibres, ceramics, leather and fur industry as well as multifunctional surfactants in the cosmetic, industrial and detergent industry. About two thirds of our production is exported worldwide with manufacturing capabilities located in various important markets. In addition we are traders of specialty chemicals, supplying industry, trade, craft and authorities with different organic and inorganic compounds.

From its very origins the human race began transforming raw hides and skins into leathers and furs for daily practical use. Throughout the centuries local workshops developed into major industrial producers with international networks.

The manufacture of man-made fibres from synthetic as well as natural polymers is a rapidly changing technology. The constant development of products and processes requires special chemicals capable of facilitating such progress.

We provide the man-made fibres industry as well as nonwoven industry with an extensive product line. Development work based on actual practice, and a pilot plant equipped with the latest fibre production and processing machines, together with up-to-the-minute measuring and checking facilities, all ensure that our special auxiliaries are constantly adapted and optimized.

The Care Specialities Division produces and distributes worldwide a wide range of multifunctional ingredients for a multitude of applications. It includes a variety of surfactants with anionic, non-ionic or cationic character and also emollients, emulsifiers, esters, natural oils, solubilizers and syndet compounds. They are used in consumer products such as skin compatible cosmetics, environmentally friendly detergents for industrial, institutional and household cleaning, specific metal treatment systems, car care products and in the fire fighting, printing and other special industrial applications.

The origin of our company lies in the field of chemical wholesale. In this business area we still think of ourselves as an intermediary between industry and customer, supplying a wide range of organic and inorganic chemicals to industry, trade and authorities.

Modern warehousing facilities which are able to handle the growing demands regarding logistics and safety issues are available ensuring the prompt availability of basic raw materials. Our own freight-park, with specialised vehicles for the transport of a wide diversity of chemical products, gives us a solid basis from which to offer immediate and delay-free deliveries.

Our modern Logistics Centre, with its state-of-the-art equipment, ensures both the safe storage of our products and the scheduled handling of goods in stock.

At the heart of this Centre is a fully automated high-stack store, in which a total of 12.000 pallets can be handled by seven computer operated service machines. Additional separate compartments as well as tank facilities for storing flammable liquids guarantee compliance with all safety standards during the storage of chemicals. Furthermore preventive fire protection as well as automatic extinguishing facilities and containment rooms for waste water also meet today˙s stringent safety requirements for the storage of materials which could affect water quality.

The various storage facilities are directly linked with commissioning and order processing centres by a modern, remotely-guided conveyor system, thus ensuring the rapid and precisely-controlled movement of goods for our customers and suppliers.

Manufacturing chemistry and environmental protection should not be in conflict. We endeavour to bear out this claim.

All effluent produced by the plant - in the first instance from the various washing and cleaning processes - is treated both mechanically and biologically in our own purification unit. Both, our own constant controls and those carried out by independent authorities guarantee the high quality of our effluents.

Gas and dust emissions are reduced to a minimum by a combination of filtration, absorption, and after-burning processes.

In our Ecological Laboratory we examine the effects of our products on the environment so that, even during development stage, their environmental compatibility can be fully considered.

Vehicles used for the transportation of hazardous goods are carefully monitored in order to comply with legislative requirements. Via facilities on site we are also able to utilise railway transport both for dispatch and reception of goods.

Last but not least, detailed technical documentation, product information, safety data, and hazard guidance literature, together with comprehensive labelling, ensure that our products can be handled in a safe and eco-friendly way both during transport and by our customers.

The supply of power to the plant, and of the basic utilities required for production, such as electricity, steam, compressed air and water, must, of course, be guaranteed round the clock. Besides the from the technology required above, our own facilities and fully-trained personnel ensure that plant support and service systems are available where and when they are needed. A fully equipped on-site fire brigade with all equipment necessary for the handling of emergencies on a chemical plant is also available in case of need.
