41 more students need a home for

3 ½ weeks this summer…Open Your Home, Open Your Heart, Open Your World!

We know that today's world is a global one, and that it's exceedingly important for young people to expand their horizons. EF Educational Homestay Program is

bringing 136 students from Spain, Austria and Russia to Folsom and surrounding communities to study English and experience the American Way of Life.  This is an amazing opportunity for your family

and the community to participate in international exchange and build cross-cultural relationships

that will last a lifetime.

Students ages 13 -17 will be visiting from July 2 – July 28

*NEW this year – 34 of the 68 Spanish students are coming for the full immersion experience! These students will only go on activities twice a week. They just want to be with your family doing the day to day. They can go on trips with you and you don't have to rush them out the door for school!  * The rest of the students will be under the supervision of EF Program staff from 8:00am - 5:30pm (M-F) attending language classes in the morning and participating in a variety of organized activities in the afternoons. Host Families may join us for these activities. *Volunteer Host Families are asked to provide a room (we have beds and they can share a room with your kids), meals and transportation to and from Vista del Lago High School.

OUTREACH

WatchDOGs Needed!Calling All Dads! Become a WatchDOG 'Dads of Great Students'! If you didn't get the chance to sign up this year, here's your chance to get on board for the 2013-14 school year. We are looking for dads, step-dads, uncles and grandfathers to volunteer one day to help at FMS. WatchDOGS is a nationally recognized program to have positive male role-models come onto campus to help in the classrooms, hallways and lunch room. Save the date and come to the informational meeting August 27, 6:30-8:30pm in the FMS multi. Pizza and soda will be provided. District nurses will be on hand to administer TB tests. Come be a part of the fun night and sign up to make the school year a great one.

WatchDOG Dad TestimonialMy day spent at Folsom Middle School as a Watch DOG

Volunteer was an awesome experience. The kids, teachers and

faculty were great and welcomed me with open arms. I can’t

thank you enough, Brian, for allowing me to be a part of this

program. Being at school and getting the chance to see “life

through the eyes of a middle school kid” is something you can’t

put a price tag on. For those dads who have already signed up

and are waiting your turn to volunteer, I offer up this simple

tip: interact, talk and engage with the students. For those dads

who have not yet signed on to volunteer as a Watch DOG, I

can’t express to you how important and how valuable it is to

take 1 day out of your schedule to come see for yourself. It will

truly open your eyes but more importantly, you have the

opportunity to potentially open the eyes for some of these kids.

A Fond Farewell...

A very big Jaguar thank you to all of the PTO officers, committee chairs and volunteers who

made this past school year extra special! Your countless hours, dedication and support are so

appreciated by all of the students, families and FMS staff.

Special acknowledgement and thanks go to outgoing Board President JoAnne Reinking and

Treasurer Wendy McCormick, both of whom have served for several years in very important

roles. Their efforts have been exemplary in growing the PTO’s positive presence and successfully

managing the various programs and funds. We have been blessed by JoAnne’s wonderful

leadership and commitment and are grateful for all of her amazing contributions to both FMS

and the Folsom community. We are also indebted to Wendy for very capably directing the

PTO’s finances for the past few years.

Additional recognition and thanks goes to Dance Committee Chair Kristen Altman for all of

her fantastic energy, creativity and fun for the kids! No one plans dances like Kristen!

You will all be missed on the FMS campus – thank you for all of your incredible PTO

contributions!
