Pre-show I wandered back stage to interview the models participating in the show. All the men and woman participating each had their own beauty, already visible without yet wearing the designs. The anticipation and nerves were palatable in the staging area. Many of the models were from Central Florida area or Winter Park residents, all ranging from the age of 15yrs to mature models that came out of retirement just for this event. “The chance to support our community and dress for a cause is amazing” stated model Jerica, who would be walking for Thread & Tuni. “I have built a strong and unique bond with Tuni and the designers in the last 3 years that I have participated. It’s an incredible way to bring the community together”.
The start of the show was Harriet herself making her entrance in all white. Wearing a large impressive hat with netting and royal blue bird nestled amongst the folds. Even with the assistance of a walker, Harriet moved with grace and reagalness to steal the show, sitting front row/center with her white gown and decorative accessories. Not even the sparkle of upcoming jewels could match the shine in her eyes. She was truly the “Queen”
awaiting the presentation of the court’s creativeness! And each person whom walked that runway, made sure to pay homage.
Opening the show was the talented Orlando Ballet. Balancing on toes, leaping and tumbling, they donned modern and classic styles in red officially setting the runway on fire for the up and coming designers.
First up was a 10 design line from the winner of The Emerging Designer Contest. 2011’s winner was Rhonda Spears. It was easy to see why she won. She combined comfortable fabric styles and soft textures and earth tones with subtle animal prints to complete a flexible style that goes from the office to the dance floor. Her styles are beautiful with or without accessories. Just what today’s modern woman on the move would be looking for. Last year’s Emerging Designer Maria Roman’s accessories ironically enough would make great additions to this year’s winning designs.
For all the women who feel that accessories
Calling all my fashion lovers! If you missed the Park Avenue Fashion Week & Fashion Show in October, maybe you should question your fashion drive! Lucky for you, I had the great pleasure
to have and all access pass and I am excitedly passing this summary along. For me, it was my own personal “Sex in the City” moment, and I found myself missing my girlfriends to keep me company. Next year’s scheduled attendance “with the gurls” was made the moment the show ended. The audience enjoyed a red carpet entrance, worthy of their stylish dress in the center of Winter Park. Every attendant could feel and taste the excitement in the air. All of the designers were impressive in their own way but together, the audience could easily imagine themselves in New York, just with warmer weather. There was something for every “fashion-ista” in this show, from the most demure dresser looking for a new pair of glasses to the “raging rock star” within each of us.

make the outfit, there were many designers who have unique & creative locked down. Bayhill Jeweler’s joined with Eyelash Works to present an image of graceful, mesmerizing colors. Bayhill’s delicate chain designs with a colorful array of stunning stones can upgrade even the most basic sheath dress to the next level. The models carrying the pieces appeared with colorful feathered eyes combined with the basic colors & neutral tones sheath dresses. The partnership created some of the most stunning ensembles of the night.
For the young and fresh, Lilly Pulitzer’s line offered clean, straight forward cuts with simple bright colors and patterns. From a sundress to beachwear, her light and energetic fabrics have something for all the young at heart. Stores also for the young & enthusiastic were Tuni, Thread & Bebes’/Liz’s all which offered everything the “inner rock gurl” could ever need to make the powerful, passionate impression she craves.
Not to be forgotten were the men’s lines. Current and John Craig both had great tailoring
when it came to men’s suits, but both also had a lot to show when it came to casual. Great colors and touchable, movable fabrics could make the most “tie-o-phobic” man want to “clean up” occasionally.
My ultimate “Carrie” moment was with the Sultre’s shoe presentation. These pieces are hot enough to make a paper bag dress look good. They have an ultimate mix of textures including everything from fur, leather, beading, and sequins to hard core metal! If only shoes were free! (Laughing)
There were many more designers and businesses whom created this amazing event, all of which are conveniently located in or near downtown Winter Park. Leave the typical, predictable, over priced mall alone. Find your inner “fashionista” and still have the convince of everything in one place, while being romanced by the home-town feel. Make a day of it! Get an incredible lunch, build the ultimate outfit and then take a stroll in the park to plan on how that outfit will have the most impact!

NBA All-Star Edition

Basketball season has finally begun. Even though I wish it would have started on time I can’t be mad at the players for wanting
their money. I know how I am when it comes to my money. I don’t play! And I’m not even in the same tax bracket as the lowest paid player so if I was them I would have held out too. You know what they say if you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.
Since the commissioner and the NBA announced that the season would commence on Christmas day much of Orlando has started talking about All-Star Weekend. The City Beautiful is the Host of this years NBA All-Star Game. This is exciting for many reasons. First, a weekend such as this can and will bring money into the city. Second, those of us who live here in the Central Florida area get the experience without the cost of airline tickets or hotel fees. The city will be flooded with celebrities and athletes and of course wanna be ballers, models, and future baby mamas. Hey I’m not knocking anyone’s hustle.
If you’ve never experienced an All-Star Weekend take advantage that it’s coming to your city. Whether you are the eager musician hoping to run into Diddy,
the thirsty chick waiting in the hotel lobby, or just the bartender or waitress at the best parties I wish you luck. Something I feel is much needed. Orlando is by no means a major city, hell it’s not even a big city. So it has me wondering how and where all these people, that a weekend of this caliber attracts, will fit. I have been downtown on a random Saturday and couldn’t find parking. Do you get where I’m going with this? There is traffic at every All-Star weekend don’t get me wrong. But, here in Orlando there is basically only one highway so I can imagine the kind of buzzkill maneuvering in the city will be that weekend. I’m not trying to be a negative Nancy i’m just stating the obvious.
Speaking of the obvious, when the hell do they plan on firing Stan Van Gundy’s pudgy ass? While they are at it they can give Otis his walking papers too. The decisions these two make are stupid. Why do you have J.J. Reddick guarding Lebron, Stan? Why did you bring Gilbert here in the first place Otis? And the most obvious question of them all, why aren’t you doing everything in your power to not only keep Dwight but make him happy? They don’t really want to bring a Championship to the city because they aren’t acting like it.

a stone of hopeBy: Rhielle Davis
"a black preacher, no official rank or title, who somehow gave voice to our deepest dreams and our most lasting ideas -- a man who stirred our conscience and thereby helped make our union more perfect." -President Barack obama
Across the globe, many countries and cultures echo the sentiments consistent with the dream that Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. held for America, and the world at large. Celebrated in America as a national holiday, Martin Luther King Day holds monumental significance in the visions of human rights activists worldwide; those whose messages and mandates largely mirror that of the global reformer and “drum major for justice.” 2010 Nobel Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobo, Afghan women's rights activist Sima Samar, and prominent Russian attorney Nikolai Alekseev continue the cadence of non-violent, peaceful protests for democracy and human rights while courageously contending with the voices of oppression and repression.
Hailed as the most successful social movement in American History, the civil rights movement gave birth to the migration of a people towards a corporate conscience of “liberty, and justice for all.” Although the efforts of Dr. King and other black leaders and activists met with paramount resistance, the hope of a gradual transformation of a people who refuse to remain polluted and separated remains in the heart of America. The struggle continues in courtrooms and classrooms, on playgrounds and battlegrounds, and on sets and steps, for the assurance of basic liberties and equal protection under the law for all citizens.
Twenty-six years of national observance, marking the 82nd birthday of Dr. King, should foster more than a parade and a picnic. The extraordinary leader’s message to each of us still rings from the “clay hills of Georgia to the mountains of Tennessee,” where the motivation to remain vigilant concerning our own peaceful pursuits should go hand-in-hand with our obligation to secure and ensure the liberties of our neighbors. Whether or not your day off, will become a day on, volunteering and demonstrating acts of kindness; allow this season, the semblance of a “mountain of despair,” with all of its economic frustrations and social intimidations to forge in each of us, an indomitable spirit to carry forth out of this period, a “stone of hope,” a foundation for future generations to build upon.
The recently dedicated 30-foot tall “Stone of Hope” Memorial to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is the first to immortalize a non-president, and an African American on the National Mall. Tour the memorial at 1964 Independence Ave, SW, Washington, DC 20024, or visit www.mlkmemorial.org for more information.

As Beyonce and Jay-Z’s family and celebrity friends celebrate the birth of the couple’s first child, a daughter named Blue Ivy, some people are complaining about the treatment they received while trying to see their own babies at the same hospital.
Beyonce gave birth Saturday at New York City’s Lenox Hill Hospital, and new father Neil Coulon ofBedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, says Beyonce’s baby security team blocked him from seeing his own premature twins several times.
“Three times they stopped me from entering or exiting the NICU (Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit)
and it happened once on Friday -- just because they wanted to use the hallway.” Coulon told theNew York Daily New

Beyonce and Jay reportedly shelled out $1.3 million dollars to seal off and redecorate a wing, complete with bulletproof glass and ultra-tight security measures
that included guards patrolling the hallways with headsets.
Coulon says that at one point the security team cleared the entire sixth floor waiting room where his relatives were.
“They should have been more strategic about it,” he said. “These are children with problems in intensive care and you’re just going to take over the hospital like you own it? All I want is an apology. I know they spent $1.3 million and I’m just a contractor from Bed-Stuy, but the treatment we received was not okay. My wife is just terribly upset. She had a C-section. She gave birth to twins. She is sore. Nobody needs this.”
