"Bullitt", "The Thomas Crown Affair", "Dirty Harry", "Once upon a time in the West", "Mission: Impossible", "The Persuaders", "Mannix"… - many films and television series now rankamong the mythical, and since their creation in the sixties, they continue to inspiregenerations of viewers to this day.

These titles conceal some of the most fascinating original sound tracks, ones that havelargely contributed to firmly anchoring the films and television series in the collectiveimagination. Why are these sound tracks - which are indeed veritable films for our ears -so strongly evocative? What influence do they have on contemporary musicians ? To answer these questions, we travel to Paris, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New Yorkto meet Lalo Schifrin, Quincy Jones, John Barry and Michel Legrand, four brilliantcomposers to whom we owe the invention of the sound that revolutionised the relationshipbetween film and music. We also meet contemporary artists, whose work is stronglyinspired by the musical movement initiated in the sixties - Air, David Holmes, Mike Patton...We return to the location of mythical film shoots, talking to the creators. They comment onnumerous film extracts, and share their passion for music with us. A veritable road movie, travelling to the heart of music and pictures, this documentary goesback and forth between two eras - two apparently very different ones, but linked by acommon taste for the dramatisation of certain sounds, by a certain frame of mind, and ingeneral by a fascination for popular culture.

"Bullitt", "L'Affaire Thomas Crown", "L'Inspecteur Harry", "Il était une fois dans l'Ouest","Mission : impossible", "Amicalement Vôtre", "Mannix"… Autant de films et de sériesdevenus mythiques qui, depuis les années soixante jusqu'à aujourd'hui, font rêver desgénérations de spectateurs et de téléspectateurs.

Derrière ces titres se cachent quelques unes des plus fascinantes bandes originales, decelles qui ont très largement contribué à ancrer ces films et séries dans l'imaginaire collectif. Pourquoi ces bandes sons, véritables films pour nos oreilles, sont-elles toujours si fortementévocatrices ? Quelles influences ont-elles sur des musiciens contemporains ? Pour répondre à ces questions, nous voyageons de Paris à San Francisco, de Los Angelesà New York à la rencontre de Lalo Schifrin, Quincy Jones, John Barry et Michel Legrand,ces quatre compositeurs géniaux à qui nous devons l'invention de ce son qui révolutionnale rapport entre cinéma et musique. Notre chemin croise également celui d'artistescontemporains dont l'œuvre est fortement inspirée par ce mouvement musical initié dansles années soixante : Air, David Holmes, Mike Patton... Nous retournons sur les lieux detournage mythiques, nous nous entretenons avec ces créateurs, ils commentent denombreux extraits de films et nous font partager leur passion pour la musique. Véritable road movie au coeur de la musique et des images, ce film documentaire dessinecet aller et retour entre deux époques très différentes en apparence mais reliées par ungoût commun pour la mise en scène de certaines sonorités, un certain état d'esprit et,globalement une fascination pour la culture pop.
