Fire Prevention Tips

Smoke Detectors:

*Check and test your smoke detectors

*If your detector is chirping or beeping replace the battery

*Notify Balfour Beatty immediately if your smoke detector does not work

Space Heaters:

*The use of gasoline, kerosene, or other flammable liquid space heaters is

prohibited.

*Portable electric space heaters are authorized

*Heaters must be UL or FM listed, labeled, and equipped with a tip-over

safety switch.

*Maintain a clearance of at least 36 inches from anything that can burn.

*Avoid using electrical heaters in area that may come in contact with water.

*DO NOT use stove as an alternate heat source, this can produce toxic

fumes.

*DO NOT use space heaters to try and thaw out frozen pipes

Candles:

*Never leave lit candles unattended (in a vacated room or when going to bed).

*Place candles on a sturdy non-combustible base away from anything that

can burn.

*Keep anything that can burn at least three feet from the flame.

*Keep children and pets away from candles.

Electricity:

*DO NOT run extension cords from your house to a neighboring house

*Stay away from all downed power lines.

*Even cable and telephone lines can deliver a deadly electrical shock if an

electric line as crossed them elsewhere in the system

*If you see or smell smoke DON’T hesitate calling 9-1-1

Claims

• You have up to 2 YEARS to file a claim!

• Save ALL receipts, including lodging

• Document what you have and what you’ve lost.

• Use photos, inventories from moves etc

• Contact YOUR insurance carrier first and file a claim with them.

• Personal Claims Act may pay for damages to property after, or in lieu

of, insurance.

• Deductibles will be reimbursed.

• Automobiles, spoiled food, personal property covered.

• $100,000 limit to coverage.

• Moving costs paid under JFTR.

• Lodging expenses reimbursement OK – not to exceed 30 days.

•Per diem authorized at 100% Soldier and dependents 12 and up.

•Per diem at 50% for under 12 years old.

•Lodging = up to $78 a day. / Per diem rate = $46 a day.

•Statement of non-availability not required.

•Rental cars cost may be reimbursed for up to 4 days for determination

purposes.

•Up to 10 additional days authorized if vehicle needs replacement or repair

(14 days total).

•Time can be extended based on individual circumstances.

•One vehicle per family. Smallest class of car.

•Insurance first, receipts needed.

•Expedited Claims Recovery / Exception to Policy has been granted!

•Itemization no longer required for those who have a total or substantially

total loss

•Claims personnel will document losses by on-site inspections,

photography, detailed oral interviews, available HHG inventories

•Claims personnel will estimate total value of loss from which a settlement

will be reached

•Can still itemize if you believe that a more favorable settlement will result

•New Deductible Claim Policy / When only filing a claim for a private insurance

deductible:

•No longer to need to itemize your entire claim

•Just need to show proof that a claim has been filed and the amount of

the deductible

If you find items that were moved by the tornado please turn them in at the

Military Police Station, building 1000, phone 6-6141 or the North Piney

Hills Housing Area MP Command Post on Oklahoma Avenue, phone 528-

3978.

ServicesDOL/Transportation

• Soldiers who were affected by the lost of OCIE/CIF items please contact

Michelle Jones at CIF (596-8835) and a replacement issue will be made.

• Soldiers who require uniforms should contact SJA to submit a claim for

damaged or destroyed uniforms. Once the claim is processed, uniforms may be

obtained from the Military Clothing Sales Store.

• To schedule an appointment for Household Goods, please contact the

Personal Property Office at 596-0903. Business hours are 0700-1800.

• A storage container has been placed in the Specker Parking lot for any

articles that are lost and found. Keys to the container may be obtained at the

Incident Command Post.

• Transportation will stop the dedicated bus run from Morelli Heights to any

location on the installation effective at 2000 tomorrow. Anyone who does

require transportation please call 573-596-0814, and ask for a pickup.

Food ServiceStarting Jan 5 , DFAC 2105 hours will close at 2000 hours.

Monday – Saturday Breakfast: 0500 – 0730 / Lunch: 1100 -1230 / Dinner:

1700 -1830

Ehrhardt Properties Room Rates

for tornado impacted Soldiers and their Families.

- Friday night only (day of tornado Dec 31, 10 ), FREE

- Each following night, as long as they need it, $49/night.

- they have three hotel properties that are pet friendly for families

with pets.

Committee of 50 has financial support available for tornado

impacted Soldiers and their Families.

Wounded Warrior Fund can provide funding to tornado impacted

Soldiers (and their Families) needing money that is not available

through other sources.
