Welcome to September! Even though I'm pretty sure this has been the l o n g e s t yearin history, I also can't believe it is already September!

I've got a lot to share this week, so let's jump in!

It's National Preparedness Month. Are you ready for an emergency? Do you know whatyou should have ready at a moment's notice? Check out ReadyGov to assess yourreadiness.September is Suicide Prevention Month. Mental health needs have increased during thepandemic. Do you know who to call if you are experiencing depression or anxiety?Resources can be found on the County website. As we move more fully into the election season (although, honestly, does it ever stop?!?) Ispoke with Mrs. Joyce Pace, Fluvanna Director of Elections and Voter Registration, this

week; you'll find our Q&A below.

Starting this week, I'll be highlighting the different agencies that provide services andsupport to Fluvanna County residents. This week's Spotlight: Sexual Assault ResourceAgency.

And finally, I was very sorry to learn today of the passing of Leonard "Len" Gardner. Mr.Gardner was a long-time resident of Fluvanna County who served this county on variousboards and commissions, including election to the Board of Supervisors. He was aveteran of World War II and a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. If you had the honorof hearing him tell his story, well, you were honored indeed. The Oral History Lab at theUniversity of Massachusetts Amherst conducted an Oral History Interview of Mr. Gardnerin 2018. It was recorded and there are two videos: one that is over two hours long (clickhere) and an excerpt of that recording in which Mr. Gardner recalls the attack. You canfind that seven minute video here. The voices of his generation are quickly going silent. Ifyou have a moment, give a listen. You can read his obituary here. Thank you, Mr.Gardner, for your life of service.

Stay safe friends. Cover your face, wash your hands, spread as much kindness as youpossibly can,Kelly
