For State and Local Officials Facing Fluoridation Decisions

    1. Regarding the safety of water fluoridation, note that State Departments of Health and the CDC use data

and conclusions provided by the dental community. For example, the Florida Department of Health lists

a journal article in support of water fluoridation. Compare the dentist authors interpretation of

fluoride safety that is presented on page 4 to the information provided by a risk assessment specialist.

    2. Important point: Contrary to what is repeatedly stated, it is now recognized that fluoride acts topically.

    3. Ask fluoridation proponents to either confirm or refute the information that is within these 34 References.

    4. Make sure citizens have had an opportunity to become properly informed before requesting their input.

Information about the often repeated statement Water Fluoridation is Safe

In its letter to Wini Silko regarding the safety of fluoride in drinking water, the US Public Health Service said

that diabetics with excessive thirst and those who drink large quantities of water should drink bottled water.

(Fluoride 101 author chooses bottled spring water over bottled filtered, purified, or distilled water.)

Aliss Terpstra experiences extreme fluoride sensitivity. Research described in Dental Digest and the Journal

of Dental Medicine acknowledged that 1% of people exposed to fluoride experience undesirable side effects.

G.L. Waldbott, MD, spent a lifetime studying and reporting on allergic reactions from fluorides. Eight of his

cases are described in Fluoridation: A Clinicians Experience published in the Southern Medical Journal.

How fluoridated water affected the 13 year old school girl in Case #6 is of particular interest.

The studies referenced above acknowledge the neurological system is affected by fluoride. Isnt it time

to pay attention to the works of people such as neurotoxicologist Phyllis Mullenix, Ph.D. and toxicologist

Brian Dementi, Ph.D. (See page 40.), as well as the conclusions of the authors of the Harvard Study?

Facts about the statement Water Fluoridation is Cost Effective

The question is, For Whom? The Journal Phosphorus & Potassium No. 103 says As with any pollution control

operation, it is highly desirable for the operator of a fluorine scrubbing operation to find a use or market for

the recovered fluorine to help defray at least partially the cost of the operation.

Correcting unsightly dental fluorosis could result in lifetime costs which may exceed $100,000 over a lifetime.

Restorative dentists and orthodontists describe difficulty in repairing severely fluorotic teeth.
