EDITING STATION 1: PUNCTUATION PARTY!

Have a look for:

· Capital Letters- beginning of sentences and proper nouns

· Full stops to finish sentences

· Question marks or exclamation marks if needed

· Commas in a list or to separate clauses

· Parenthesis for extra information (dashes, commas and brackets)

EDITING STATION 2: ADVERBIAL PHRASES

Have a look for:

· Adverbs in your sentences (-ly words and adverbs without –ly such as fast, well etc.)

· Phrases that tell the reader when, where, how and why

· Prepositional Phrases (Under, between, above, on, in)

EDITING STATION 3: DETERMINERS

Have a look for

· Are these at the beginning of your sentences and in the middle?

· Rule: a + vowel = an (an elephant, an apple)

EDITING STATION 4: SPELLING

Have a look for:

· Spellings that don’t look right

· Use 5 B’s to help you check the spelling

· Use your whiteboard to write different versions

· Spelling word list- use ¾ and 5/6 word list if you need too

· ONLY use a dictionary once you have used all the above ☺

EDITING STATION 5: IMAGERY

Have you used:

· Similes- like/as

· Metaphor- It is like a…

· Personification- giving objects human qualities (Flowers danced, sun smiled…)

· Alliteration

· Assonance – (Ignite light in the night)

EDITING STATION 6: VOCABULARY PARTY!

Have a look for:

· Dull adjectives- can you change these? Use your blue vocabulary books to get ideas and the working wall.

· Noun phrases

· Boring verbs - can you make the verbs exciting and choose verbs you may not usually use? (The troll walked around the school- The troll lumbered around the school)

EDITING STATION 7: CHARACTER & SETTING

Have you created a clear image of the character or setting?

Have a look for:

· Exciting adjectives to describe your character

· Fabulous verbs to describe character action

· Senses to develop setting

· I can smell…I can see… -CHANGE if you have used these sentences!

Have a look for:

· Cohesive devices at the beginning of sentences

· Have you repeated a cohesive device? Can you change it?

· Use cohesive devices list on the working wall
