Sister Edlink Lovejoy Benson AKA GG/Granny G, was born in Tallassee, Alabama of Elmore County. She was an only child born to the Marital Union of B. Lovejoy (US Army) and Maggie Johnson Lovejoy (School Teacher). She attended Springhill School. She was well educated and had a passion for books and loved to read, especially her Bible.

Sister Edlink expressed her belief in Jesus Christ at age four- teen, and became a Baptized Born Again Christian. She moved to Alexander City, Alabama over 75 years ago, and as a Chris- tian, united with Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church and remained an active member until her health declined. She loved singing in the Church Choir and traveling with the group and preparing meals for special events.

She was a twelve year Retiree from Russell Manufacturing Company’s Battery Department.

She loved helping others and those in need. She volunteered and donated to various organizations all through her adult life. She was definitely a giver and passed that tradition on down to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She was the Widow of Rufus Benson Sr. and the mother of six children. Three sons, Rufus, Shaffer, and Willie Gene (deceased).

    I Am Free at 101

Don’t Grieve Too Long For Me, For Now I Am Free. I Am Following God’s Path That He Left For Me. I Took Him By His Hand When I Heard Him Call My Name. Life Here On Earth Will Never Be The Same. I Could Not Stay Another Day, Not Even To Laugh, To Sing, To Love Or To Pray. Things That I Left Undone Must Stay That Way; Because I Found My Peace At The End Of The Day. If My Departing Has Left A Void, Then Fill It With Pre- cious Joy. Our Friendship, Our Laughter, A Hug Or A Kiss, All These Things Too Shall Be Missed. Let Your Hearts Not Be Burdened With Too Much Sorrow, For I Wish For You All The Sunshine of Tomorrow. My Life Has Been Full Of Many Wonderful Blessings, Lots of Joy And Love. And Yes, Some Pain And Some Suffering; But God, His Word, The Holy Spirit, Family And Friends, Fun Times, Praise And Worship, Has Been My Comfort. My Time Here On Earth Was Not Brief, I Had A Long Won- derful Life. So Don’t Become Overtaken With Grief. Don’t Focus On How I Passed Away, But Rejoice When You Think Of How I Lived And Loved God And Life. Lift Up Your Hearts And Praise God With Me. Jesus Called Me To My Eternal Home, He Has Set Me Free. I Am Happy To Be Eternally Free. See You In Heaven.

    I Am Free!
