The the transmitter housing is fixed with 4 screws (not provided by the supplier). Maximum diameter of the screw: M5

3.1 Connection points

The connection points are located at the bottom of the embodiment.

Electric cables must only be connected by experienced and trained personnel. Safety regulations and standards, valid at the point of use, have to be followed!

No wiring without turning off and separating from the power supply previously! Only after complete wiring of all cable connections, the connector X1 (DC supply 24 V) may be connected.

Do not assemble any connection point under power supply!

3.2 Mounting the connection adapter

The connection adapter [13] is provided with a 1/8“ diameter inside and outside thread as well as a connection to the sensor (use appropriate seals). To achieve exact measurement results, the connection adapter should be mounted behind the valve [19] and close to the dosing needle [20] or the outlet, respectively.

3.3 Installation of the flow sensor

1. Mount and fix counternut [12] to the flow sensor [8].

2. Remove protector cap [11] from the flow sensor [8].

WARNING! The measurement needle [10] is very sensitive to any

mechanical stress and must not be touched with fingers. It must also not be exposed to excessive mechanical stress or forces! If the sensor is not mounted to the equipment or device under test, the protector cap [11] has to be mounted correctly!

HINT: The protector cap may again be needed during

disassembly of the measurement system or for storing the disassembled sensor apart from its point of use. It should therefore be stored carefully at a designated location.

3. Turn flow sensor carefully into the connection adapter [13] until you have reached the end of the thread. (without much effort)

4. Then turn the flow sensor backwards until you have reached the position, shown in the figure at the right hand side (the arrow, indicating the designated flow direction, must show the correct direction of liquid flow!).

5. Tighten the lock nut carefully and fix flow sensor [8] with the lock nut [12].

3.4.2 Wiring instructions

Due to the input filter, used for the suppression of electro-magnetic disturbances, the flow sensor and the measurement and control unit can be used under tough manufacturing conditions. In addition, we propose to take great care for correct wiring to ensure the correct system performance. The following guidelines have to be followed:

CAUTION! Avoid cable connections (especially input lines) which are lined up in parallel to cable connections

transferring high currents or AC power.

Take great care in correct grounding.

4.2 Setting switching points

By setting the switching point, the system settings are calibrated. The switching point defines the nominal flow value, which has to be reached to fulfil the specified performance requirements and guarantee the required process results. The switching point has to be set individually for each application and media. For reliable performance, it has to be set to a level, where it is topped when the media flow is ideal, but also reached when small variations of the media occur (e.g. by small, but uncritical air bubbles or containments in the media flow). 1. Set calibration mode to ON status (=> Chapter 4.1.1 Calibration Mode On). 2. Open dosing valve.

Media is flowing and a measured flow value is shown on the LED bar display, located on the frontpanel of the measurement and control unit.

3. Press „MOD“ button several times until the control LED

„switching point“ twinkles.

The current switching point settings are displayed-

4. Choose and set the desired switching point by pressing the „<“ or „>“ button.

HINT: In order to stay insensitive against small temperature of the media and pressure variations and to

ensure stable performance under manufacturing conditions, the switching point should be set to a value of approximately 20% ... 30% below the values, measured under ideal standard performance conditions.

5. Set calibration mode to OFF status (=> Chapter 4.1.2 Calibration Mode Off).

Page 15: Flow Measurement System SMG 06 Operating manual · Operating manual Flow Measurement System SMG 06 D+P, Dosier- und Prüftechnik GmbH Emil-Eigner-Straße 3, D-86720 Nördlingen Page

4.3 Zero point calibration

The calibration of the zero reference point is required after each exchange of a flow sensor. With this zero point calibration, the operational status “no media flow” is defined. The zero point setting can be controlled at any point of time.

The flow sensor is connected to the measurement and control unit via the appropriate connection cable. The dosing valve is closed, i.e. no media flow occurs.

1. Set calibration mode to ON status (=> Chapter 4.1.1 Calibration Mode On).

2. Press „MOD“ button several times until the control LED „zero point“

twinkles.

If negative values are determined, the „negative“ signal LED at the left hand side of the bar display is highlighted [23].

3. Press either the „<“ button or the „>“ button until the LED display

indicates „zero“ [22].

HINT: If during standard operation significant deviations or a drift of the zero point occur, the sensor unit

or the entire flow measurement system should be checked for correct function or potential defects.

4. Set calibration mode to OFF status (=> Chapter 4.1.2 Calibration Mode Off).

Page 16: Flow Measurement System SMG 06 Operating manual · Operating manual Flow Measurement System SMG 06 D+P, Dosier- und Prüftechnik GmbH Emil-Eigner-Straße 3, D-86720 Nördlingen Page

4.4 Setting delay times

The values for raise and fall time delay as well as the settings of the control times and cycles can be adapted to the different process conditions and control requirements.

It should always be tried, to achieve correct and reliable performance with zero settings for the

delay times. If this leads to false measurement results, the raise and fall time delay may be increased step by step.

The operation ranges for the delay times can be set on the frontpanel of the measurement and control unit.

1. Set calibration mode to ON status (=> Chapter 4.1.1 Calibration Mode On).

2. Either press „MOD“ button several times until the control LED „raise time delay“

twinkles

or:

press „MOD“ button several times until the control LED „fall time delay“ twinkles.

3. Select the desired delay time settings by pressing the „<“ or „>“ button. HINT: The selected delay times will be displayed on the LED display in % of the pre-defined time

range(=> Chapter 4.6 Setting Timing Data). 0 = no time delay).

Example: range 0 ... 1 sec (standard) display 20 (%) (step 50 msec) = delay time 200 msec

4. Set calibration mode to OFF status (=> Chapter 4.1.2 Calibration Mode Off).

4.5 Setting control time data

The duration of the dosing process is controlled by monitoring the control time data. Doing so, it is possible to detect performance errors of the flow sensor or the dosing valve as soon as they occur. When reaching or topping the switching point, the control LED “switching point reached” will be highlighted and the relay “signal” will be activated after the pre-defined delay time (control LED “signal” is highlighted). By activating the relay “signal”, the control time starts. After the complete control time has gone by, the relay „interrupt“ will be activated and the control LED „interrupt“ is highlighted.

The ranges for the control time can be set on the frontpanel of the measurement and control unit (=> Chapter 4.6. Setting Timing Data).

1. Set calibration mode to ON status (=> Chapter 4.1.1 Calibration Mode On).

2. Press „MOD“ button several times until the control LED „control time“ twinkles. 3. Select the desired control time by pressing the buttons „<“ or „>“.

The selected control time data will be displayed on the LED display in % of the pre-defined time range. (=> Chapter 4.6 Setting Timing Data). 0 = no control time data set.

Example: range 0 ... 5 sec (standard) display 70 (%) (step 250 msec) = control time 3.5 sec 4. Set calibration mode to OFF status (=> Chapter 4.1.2 Calibration Mode Off).
