that feature experts in various aspects of renaissance life, arts, crafts and sciences. Stop by for stimulating, informative conversation

and entertaining demonstrations.

HANSEATIC LEAGUE ENCAMPMENT: Experience life in a traveling merchant caravan. Highlighting various entertainments during the day, including The Bearded Lady Sideshow.

ANGER OF THE MISTRESS: Located on the Lakeside Point, this encampment displays the large siege weapons known as the Trebuchet. Watch these magnificent machines fling heavy objects long distances at 11:30 and 2:30.

PALADIN SOCIETY: Our village apothecary, this encampment specializes in the various healing arts of the renaissance and the medicinal usages of local plants. This encampment also serves as an educational center for local students beginning to learn the various skills of the renaissance.

H. M. ROYAL ARTILLERY: This singular collection of individuals, recreate the local militia and professional knight attendants providing protection and security for the Royalty and Village. They are also our artillery training school. They will host an artillery training demonstration at 12:30 where they will prepare the cannons. Period cannon demonstration daily at 1:30.

EVERGLADES FREE 5TH COMPANY: This encampment features all the hardworking volunteers who perform the vital function of protecting both the audience and the horses for our Joust shows. They also assist our Master Falconer and Master Archer with their demonstrations on the Lakeside Point. This dedicated troupe have been with the festival for more than 20 years and have become such a necessary element in the smooth running of these large scale spectacle shows, that they are often invited to provide Safety and Security for most of the major festivals in the Florida area.

HISTORY OF CHIVALRY: History of Chivalry is our living history encampment dedicated to the preservation and demonstration of the arts and skills of the warrior knight. Twice daily our members will display combat fighting with live steel. An exciting blend of adventure and danger, experience the excitement of yesteryear. Watch their demonstrations in the jousting arena at 11:30 and 3:00.

THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE: During the 16th and 17th centuries, at the height of its power under the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent, the Ottoman Empire was a multinational, multilingual empire controlling much of Southeast Europe, parts of Central Europe, Western Asia, and North Africa.With Constantinople as its capital and control of lands around the Mediterranean basin, the Ottoman Empire was at the centre of interactions between the Eastern and Western worlds for six centuries. During various conflicts throughout Europe, great capitols rose and fell often loosing great libraries and other repositories of knowledge and cultural histories, leading to the period known as “The Dark Ages”. The Ottomans held and protected the accumulated knowledge of the greater world for centuries. As Europe entered into the Renaissance the Ottoman Empire began to share the arts, sciences and histories which they had so carefully maintained. It was through their influence that much of the cultural histories of great countries remain. The Ottomans were artists, scholars and philosophers of the highest calibre, generous with their knowledge and diplomatic with their strength.

THE HIGHLAND TRADING COMPANY: Just inside the gates of our village you will find “The Highland Trading Company”. Enter a world of skilled craftsmen and tradespeople creating and producing goods for commercial trade with communities across the seas and as close as within The Highland Trading Company encampment itself. The Highland Trading Company is an interactive working encampment with opportunities to engage with the tradespeople and learn the history of various skills such as sewing, spinning, embroidery; as well as trades such as blacksmithing, leather working and woodworking. Listen to stories and tales as the encampment members, like all good Highlanders are great yarn-spinners. And be sure to look out for the giant red Rocking Dragon and catch a ride.

It’s the 4th weekend of The Florida Renaissance Festival and the Village of Kimmendale is very concerned.

Within every person there are two personalities at constant war with each other. One is good and the other bad, – the choice is up to you. It’s Heroes and Villains weekend here in our village.

The criminal element is afoot outside of this pleasant village. Darkness and Terror stalk the land like… like two big stalking things. There are troubles in Italy, revolution in France and Scotland, and there are tremendous rumblings in Prussia, (though that may have a lot to do with the sausages).

We have heard rumours that under cover of darkness, the villainous Lady Nightshade has arrived within the walls of our village, looking to recruit the diabolical and nefarious for her criminal organization, “Dastardly In Deed”. This woman is very dangerous and ought only be approached with great caution. Upon hearing about her imminent arrival, I immediately sought help and so I begged assistance from the leading authority on criminal behavior, Baron Randall Rosencrantz, detective inspector for “The Scotland Yard” (a 36 inch square plot of soil and heather, around which all the best detectives gather to share stories).

So with all the darkness in the world, we need some heroes, we’re holding out for some heroes ‘till the end of the night. They’ve gotta be strong and they’ve gotta be fast and they’ve gotta be larger than life. We need some heroes. And here is where you come in. Since the Warriors of the Light and the Armies of Darkness will wander the streets of our village this weekend, we ask, “Are you a Hero or a Villain?” Do you look great in spandex and do you like to wear capes, or do you favor a black wardrobe and mutter about your sinister plot to take over the world?

It’s two sides of the same coin, but we hope to determine which is stronger in our annual “Good Guys versus Bad Guys Tug-O-War” to be held on our Jousting Field in the XTreme Action Arena at 4:30. This challenge is for you, our guests. You are invited to choose a side and participate or cheer your team on from the sidelines.

Either way, it’s just about having a fun day since everything balances out in time. Regardless of your choice, it’s about the road you travel and it’s final destination. Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company, and remember that without the darkness we would never see the light. Make your choice and enjoy your day here in the Village of Kimmendale.
