• No matter where you are in Florida, you’re never more than 110 km from salt water
• About 25 million years ago Florida was completely underwater
• Many of the landforms on Florida are due to changing sea levels

• The Florida peninsula sits on a huge limestone platform
• Limestone is a type of sedimentary rock formed from the
remains of tiny sea animals
• Today, more of the Florida peninsula sits above sea level
than it did 5 millions years ago
• A peninsula is a piece of land surrounded by water on three
sides

1. Northern highlands- gently sloping plateaus
2. Central highlands- long ridges
