O kay, that was a cruel and misleading headline. No, we are not getting a swimming pool. However, as many of you have probably noticed, the landscape behind 1145 Zonolite is definitely changing. Here’s the scoop: The EPA has been working hard since the end of October to remove potentially asbestos-containing vermiculite from an old abandoned WR Grace facility that used to exist behind 1145 Zonolite Road. To ensure that no asbestos fibers become airborne during the remediation (fibers are only harmful if inhaled), they are lightly spraying the soil with water as it is excavated and then loading it into trucks where it is “burrito wrapped” for removal to an appropriate dumping facility. Dekalb County, who owns the land which is being remediated, will be coming in behind the EPA to install a water retention pond. This will control flooding in the area. The South Fork Conservancy, Lindbergh Lavisita Corridor Coalition and FloatAway are working hand in hand with both the EPA and Dekalb County to make sure that the site is left graded in accordance with the Zonolite Park master plan, which we reported on in the last issue of the Flash. Stay tuned for updates as work progresses. Okay, that was a cruel and misleading headline. No, we

are not getting a swimming pool. However, as many of you have probably noticed, the landscape behind 1145 Zonolite is definitely changing. Here’s the scoop:

The EPA has been working hard since the end of October to remove potentially asbestos-containing vermiculite from an old abandoned WR Grace facility that used to exist behind 1145 Zonolite Road. To ensure that no asbestos fibers become airborne during the remediation (fibers are only harmful if inhaled), they are lightly spraying the soil with water as it is excavated and then loading it into trucks where it is “burrito wrapped” for

removal to an appropriate dumping facility.

For photos and full information on the EPA cleanup, visit: http://www.epaosc.org/site/site_profile.aspx?site_id=5926

BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA?OK, perhaps this bridge won’t transport you into an actual alternate universe; however, it will take you another kind of magical place -- a usable, walkable piece of greenspace right in our backyard

We’ve been reporting on Zonolite Park for more than two years now. We are happy to be able

to tell you that actual progress on the park is fi-nally underway. Already, walking trails and a small footbridge exist (thanks to efforts by the South Fork Conservancy). As soon as the EPA finishes its work and Dekalb County completes its planned storm wa-ter retention improvements, SFC volunteers are will begin work on the Zonolite community garden, and they will also be coordinating a fundraising effort for the park at large. We hope that by the end of 2012, Zonolite Park will be a usable, walkable community park similar to Morningside Park and other nearby Dekalb County parcels of greenspace.

ANNUAL WREATH DECORATING CONTESTIt’s that time again! Time to show off your holiday spirit while competing for a rent credit

Each year, TuckerMott provides each FloatAway ten-ant with a plain unadorned wreath. We leave it up

to you to decorate yours using all the creativity and craftsmanship you can muster. In past year’s we’ve awarded a winning prize to one tenant at each of our three buildings. This year, we are shaking things up and simply awarding first, second and third place. First place wins $400 off January’s rent. Second place wins $250 off and 3rd place wins $150 off.

We’ll deliver your wreaths by Wednesday, November 30. You’ll have until the morning of December 16 to craft your creation. We’ll be doing the judging starting at 10am on December 16. Good luck!

Congratulations to Agility Logistics, our tenant of the quarter for Q4 2011! Agility has grown and expanded since they first opened

their Atlanta offices at FloatAway several years ago. We remember one year when their creation for the annual wreath decorating contest was so beautiful (ribbons! birds!) that we accused them of purchasing it on Etsy! They are also one of the world’s leading providers of integrated logistics with more than 22,000 employees and 550 offices worldwide. They provide an variety of solutions over an array of industries including aerospace, automotive, chemicals as well as fairs and events. Check them out at agilitylogistics.com

Another quarter, another “gentle reminder,” this one about man’s best friend, aka, the beloved pets we

all enjoy bringing to work with us. See that sweet boy to my right? The one yawning in a field of dandelions? Then, see his owner Gerlinda hugging him, in total control? Girl, please. Gerlinda’s dog Charlie is sweet and adorable...until another dog comes around. Then he makes the hounds of hell look tame. This is why Gerlinda keeps him leashed at all times. Unfortunately some of her neighbors, the ones with the dogs who don’t have Charlie’s aggression problems, don’t bother to leash their dogs. So when Miss Waggy Tail from down the street comes bounding up to play, whose fault is it when she ends up Miss No-Tail And Half an Ear?

We enforce a strict leash rule at FloatAway to protect you guys and your furry friends from such incidents. This month’s gentle reminder is to please, please, PLEASE PEOPLE PLEASE, leash your dogs. If you don’t, we’ll have

to revoke everyone’s pet privileges. (And while I’m reminding, let me also nudge you to pick up after your pets. I stepped in a pile the other day and my Doc Martins are RUINED!)
