Discovery FlightThink you want to learn how to fly but aren’t to sure?

The discovery flight is designed to help you understand what flying is about and all that’s in-volved. Allow yourself to get introduced with the operation of the aircraft where a certified instruc-tor will take you up on a twenty minute flight where you sit in the pilot seat. In the airplane you will start, taxi, take off, and help land it. The cost for your discovery flight is only $100. Your discov-ery flight will actually be your very first loggable flight lesson and probably the beginning of a lifelong passion.

grounD schoolPrivate and Recreational pilot ground school runs most Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7:00pm to 9:30pm. Our classes exceed the minimum 40 hr requirement by Transport Canada and include all re-quired subject material for recreational and private pilot permits. Can’t make every class? Not a problem. As our ground school course runs continuously, any classes you miss in one semester can easily be picked up in the next. Students are wel-come to participate in ground school class as many times as necessary, and are always welcome back to brush up on knowledge. If you just need to make up a few classes, you can also pay a ground breifing rate of $55/hr

instructorsMcMurray Aviation employs two - three full time flight instructors. Our seven day instructor coverage means that you can train when it suits you best. We are here to help you experience the freedom of flight.

aircraFtAt McMurray Aviation, we have a fleet of 4 Cessna 172 aircraft available for training. These aircraft are professionally maintained by on-site aviation mechanics, following Transport Canada guidelines. If you own your aircraft, we would be pleased to pro-vide training for you as well.

Fuel injecteD vs. carburetorFuel Injected engines, such as the one used by FXVA, provide more uniform distribution of fuel to all cylin-ders. This provides better cooling, fuel savings, and increased power. The fuel injected engine has better cold weather starting capabilities. Carburetor engines, such as GJSE, GYYE, and GRUG, are fairly common in most light trainers. The carbure-tor mixes the correct amount of fuel and air. Due to a decrease in temperature it is subject to icing which restricts the airflow to the cylinders. To melt the ice, carburetor heat is applied which robs the engine of its power to enriching of the mixture resulting in wasted fuel.

c-gjseThis aircraft excels during cross-county and instru-ment training flights due to the added navigation-al equipment such as ILS, VOR, and ADF. It also has long range fuel tanks and a slightly more pow-erful engine (160HP)

c-grug & c-gyyeGreat for learning the basics; this aircraft has every-thing a student pilot requires during the initial stages of training. It has a GPS and a basic instrument panel.

c-FXvaThe fuel injected Cess-na 172SP has 180HP and cruising speed of 110KTAS. This aircraft has a Bendix King GPS with moving map, and other advanced naviga-tional instruments to take your training to the next level.

MeDicalAll Canadian Pilots are required to pass an aviation medical exam in order to be licensed. This exam typically consists of an overall physical and mental health assessment. An ECG, Audiogram and Chest X-ray may also be required. Vision must be at least 20/30 with or without the use of corrective lenses. It sounds tough but over 99% of all applicants are as-sessed as “Fit” and pass their medical. Category 1, 3, or 4 medicals can be obtained in Fort McMurray.
