What’s included in the trailer……

• Brief description on plot.

• Production Companies.

• Actors names.

• Date of release.

• All text is the same throughout the trailer therefore it is recognisable when people see it on bill boards or on posters in the street.

EXPOSITION.• At the beginning of the trailer it sets up the

relationship of the daughter and mother.

• Subtitles at the bottom of the screen explain the brief story line. This is effective because it makes sure the audience don’t make any assumptions and they are clear on what’s going on.

• The clips are quite slow and the lighting is quite bright however there are still some dark elements, for example it is night time and the fade to black transitions between clips is very dark suggesting that something bad will happen.

COMPLICATION

• The start of the complication is when the plane takes off, with amplified sound and the screen fades to black. This suggests that something has changed or something is about to change.

• The complication is when the mother wakes up to find that her daughter is missing.

• The music also changes to a ticking beat which creates tension and suspense within the audience.

• The clips also start to become a little faster than in the exposition suggesting that suspense is increasing.

RISING ACTION• The rising action is when the mother is looking for her

daughter.• The clips are very fast pace which portrays the sense of

urgency and panic she has.• The camera shots are also very fast moving.• The music has also quickened, but still hearing the

ticking noise could signify an increased heartbeat.• Over the music, there are different voice overs all

overlapping such as “I cant find my daughter,” “has anyone seen my daughter” and “She’s lost.” This emphasises that the daughter has disappeared and something has happened to her.

CLIMAX

• We know when we reach the climax of the trailer because all music stops and it goes silent when the flight attendant says “sorry but we have no record of your daughter being on board this flight.”

• The clips become extremely fast pace and the music gets faster and louder.

• The shouting of the mother becomes more frequent and tension is created when the daughter is not found and there is a big explosion.

END OF TRAILER

• In this trailer for the film flight plan, it is left with a cliff hanger as there is no falling action, not resolution and there isn’t a denouement.

• Therefore the audience are left not knowing whether the daughter is dead or alive or whether she even existed.

• This is effective as it leaves the audience wanting more and makes them want to go and see the film.

• This is something that we need to look at and take into consideration when making our own trailers.
