Prepare for Installation

PREPARE FOR INSTALLATION

Install the AIP Safely

CAUTION! This is restricted access equipment. You should only install an AIP in a Network Telecommunications Facility, and only qualified service personnel should service and operate this equipment using appropriate tools.

CAUTION! Wet conditions increase the potential for receiving an electrical shock when installing or using electrically powered equipment. To prevent electrical shock, never install or use electrical equipment in a wet location or during a lightning storm.

CAUTION! The maximum ambient temperature for the AIP is 50° C (122° F).

Guard against Damage from Electro-Static Discharge

CAUTION! Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) can damage electronic components. To prevent ESD damage, always wear an ESD wrist strap when working with this unit or when handling any of its components. Connect the ground wire on the ESD wrist strap to an earth ground source before touching this unit or any of its components. Wear the wrist strap the entire time that you work with the unit and its components.

CAUTION! Place unit components in anti-static packing material when transporting or storing them.

Unpack and Inspect the AIP Chassis and Modules1 Opentheshippingcartonandcarefullyunpackthepartsfromtheirprotectivepackaging.NOTE: The AIP-HU-1 Chassis and AIP-CU-1 Control Unit ship together in a master box. The AIP-CU-1 unit is in

an individual box within the master box to protect it from damage.

Click to refresh the System Tree.

Click to force a rediscovery of all modules in the AIP system or in a cascade.

CAUTION! Only click on this icon to recover from a major reconfiguration of the system.• If you select the top AIP icon in the System Tree and then click the Rediscovery button, the AIP is deleted

from the System Tree, and the system forces a rediscovery of all modules in the selected AIP or the cascade.

• If you select a BIU in the System Tree and then click the Rediscovery button, all BIUs will be deleted from the System Tree and the AIP will rediscover any BIUs installed in the chassis. This Rediscovery function takes several minutes to complete and there will not be any indication that this operation is occurring. CSU calibration is also lost and must be run again (see "Calibrate the CSU with the BIUs” on page 62).

Install the ECSS into the Equipment RackTheAIPchassisrequires3RUofspace.USstandardandmetricmachinescrewsareincludedforrackmountingtheECSS.CAUTION! Follow the guidance in "Guard against Damage from Electro-Static Discharge” on page 12.

CAUTION! This is restricted access equipment. Only install it in a Network Telecommunications Facility. Only qualified service personnel should service and operate this equipment using appropriate tools.

CAUTION! The maximum ambient temperature for the AIP is 50º C (122º F).

CAUTION! Wet conditions increase the potential for receiving an electrical shock when installing or using electrically powered equipment. To prevent electrical shock, never install or use electrical equipment in a wet location or during a lightning storm.

CAUTION! When loading the AIP in a rack, make sure the mechanical loading of the rack is even to avoid a hazardous condition such as an unbalanced rack.

CAUTION! The rack should safely support the combined weight of all the equipment it holds.

NOTE: Vertical guides are recommended, but are not provided with the AIP. Vertical cable guide kits are available as separate items from CommScope. Contact a CommScope sales representative for further information (see "AppendixC:ContactsandUserDocumentation”onpage 151).
