About FLETCHERS' MILL

Looking Back...

In 1971, brothers Wayne and Earl Fletcher had a vision of owning a business; so on a wing and a prayer they mortgaged their homes and took ownership of an antiquated wood mill that once served as a blacksmith shop for the New Vineyard, Maine locals. Many of the simpler items which the Fletcher brothers began manufacturing included wooden nickels, tool handles and toy parts, which are still being manufactured at the modernized Maine Wood Concepts mill today.

Since 1994 the business has been owned and operated by Wayne’s sons Doug, Gary and Jody. All 3 brothers worked at the company for years before taking ownership, slowly graduating from sawmill workers, to machine operators, to mechanics, to supervisors and finally owners. Consequently the second generation of Fletchers know their business from top to bottom and they are quick to credit their dad and uncle for the wisdom they had in requiring them to learn the business in such an intimate way. Currently around 100 people are employed at the factory located in the western mountains of Maine.

Today the Fletcher family business has its own modernized sawmill where the logs are purchased from local loggers and processed into boards, squares and dowels. The wood is then dried in one of 6 kilns. Once prepared the wood is then introduced into the manufacturing facility where it is turned or molded into one of thousands of various items the mill produces. As Doug Fletcher likes to say "From raw logs to the finished product the entire process is done in house and under a watchful eye. That is why the Fletchers are proud to say Made in Maine, Guaranteed for Life."

It’s hard to believe we already have two full years behind us yet here we are entering into our third year with the Fletchers’ Mill gourmet line. In 2014 we added forty two new items to our line up of products and colors. In 2015 we chose to be even more aggressive, introducing an additional fifty three. We’re excited to offer a dozen new colors on tried and true products, and no less than ten entirely new products, plus the addition of Salt Shakers in certain styles and colors. We invite you to try all of our hand picked products and join the ranks of customers around the world who embrace the slogan, “Maine Made - America’s Best”!

• All Fletchers' Mill products come with a lifetime guarantee. (Lifetime guarantee applies to the mechanism only and excludes normal wear and misuse).

• Whenever possible, we purchase our wood from FSC certified suppliers and encourage our entire base of suppliers to participate in this valuable program.

• Much of the sawdust and scrap wood we generate is used to provide heat for our factories and dry kilns. The rest is sold to local businesses who manufacture wood pellets used to heat many New England homes.

• We are very proud of our products and we make each one as if it is going into our own homes.

Fletchers' Mill Pepper Mills are fitted with a stainless steel two-step mechanism which first crushes the peppercorns for enhanced flavor, then grinds the peppercorns to the chosen consistency. Our Salt Mills feature an adjustable salt crushing system. You can only use pepper in the Pepper Mill and salt in the Salt Mill, as our mill mechanisms are specifically designed for one or the other. Both mechanisms pop-out for easy cleaning.

• Unscrew top nut and remove top.• Fill with pepper or salt.• Replace top then turn it slightly until it clicks

into place.• Screw on top nut while pushing up on the

bottom mechanism.• Tighten to desired grind.

How to Steam a Maine LobsterPut 2 inches of seawater or salted water in the bottom of a large pot.

Bring to a rolling boil over high heat.

Set a steaming rack inside the pot and add lobsters one at a time.

Cover the pot. Cook 8-10 minutes per pound.

Halfway through cooking, shift lobsters around so they cook evenly.
