Dear State Employees…• Turn off office lights at the

end of the day or in rooms not in use.

• Ensure work computers and monitors use built-in energy efficiency settings.

• Where possible, hold meetings via conference call or video conference, rather than travel to meet in-person.

• When using state vehicles, obey the speed limit and do not idle engines unnecessarily.

• Use public transit when possible

.

• Reduce office waste by not making unnecessary copies or printing email, and recycle used paper and other consumables.

Pledging Support for UCAIR• http://ucair.utah.gov/index.htmBy submitting your agency's pledge to U-CAIR

you agree to do your best to:– Encourage your employees to walk,

bicycle, or ride mass transit to work, to work a flex schedule, or to telecommute at least one day per week.

– Develop smart driving practices, such as making sure that fleet vehicles are well tuned and that employees are encouraged to drive the speed limit.

– Take advantage of tax credits by buying alternative fueled vehicles.

– Travel less and hold "virtual" meetings as often as possible.

– Adopt pollution prevention ordinances that will not only prevent air pollution but will also result in savings to taxpayers.

– Develop an anti-idling policy.

Press Release about state vehicles (March 5th)

• “Driven by Governor Gary R. Herbert's recently announced clean air initiative, Utah Clean Air Partnership, or U-CAIR, the State of Utah is replacing 73 of its fleet vehicles with fuel-efficient hybrids this year.”

• “As the State's Chief Executive Officer, I commit that the State of Utah will do its part as a U-CAIR partner to improve Utah's air quality, for our health and for our economic vitality," said Governor Herbert "It is essential that we as state employees re-examine our day-to-day choices and consider how we can make small changes that make a big difference."

Anti-idling Campaign

– We will be sending out posters for State buildings where there is a concentration of state vehicles.

– We will develop information on the DFO web site that promotes the anti-idling in the state fleet.

– We will contact state drivers to promote an anti-idling message• Drivers that consistently fall below the standard

miles per gallon for a particular make and model may be target for multiple messages
