Just as wine became popular throughoutFolsom and El Dorado County, it seems craftbeers are starting to take similar force.Folsom will host its rst craft beer event this month,
called Tap Folsom. The event will be from 6-10 p.m.,Friday, Aug. 15, on the LakeNatoma Inn property.
The two-night eventwill allow beer lovers theexperience to share thepassion of craft beer withbrewers. Read the full storyinside.

With craft beer taking the nation by storm, Folsom is joining in the excitementwith a new craft beer event this month.People can learn what the buzz is about from 6-10 p.m., Friday, Aug. 15, asHistoric Folsom hosts its rst craft beer event, Tap Folsom.
Craft beer is booming throughout the country. This is a great chance for the Folsomcommunity to learn more about the craft beer industry and some of the great local andnational beers that are making a name for themselves in the beer world, said Michael
Kennett, with the Folsom Chamber of Commerce. We work very closely and have awonderful relationship with DBI Beverage Distributing and as they continue to grow theircraft beer division, this is an opportunity to help them do so in Folsom.
The event will also include an exclusive beer brewing experience at 5 p.m. on Aug. 14,called the Ultimate Brew Experience, Kennett said.
The two-night event will allow beer lovers the experience to share the passion of craftbeer with brewers, brew masters and avid home brewers, he said.
The package allows people to brew four different styles of craft beer including porter,Belgian, pale ale and a New Experimental IPA, alongside James Murray, brew master forBallast Point Brewing Company.
People can discuss craft brewing techniques with Rick Piccirrilli from 21st AmendmentBrewing, David Morrow, former brewer at Sudwerks Brewery. Guests will then receivea bottle of each beer brewed during the event upon the completion of fermentation,Kennett said.
This is truly an event for the ultimate beer geek, Kennett said. This is a really coolthing and will really set us apart from other craft beer events.
Thursdays event includes a hosted dinner and craft beer pairings. Ultimate BrewExperience ticket also includes VIP admission to Friday nights Tap Folsom event.
There are only 40 tickets available for this exclusive brewing experience, Kennett said.So dont miss out and get your tickets early.
The Ultimate Brew Experience tickets are $100.On Friday, Aug. 15, Tap Folsom will highlight approximately 30 craft breweries, live
music and food trucks on the Lake Natoma Inn property.
Live music will include Humble Wolf, Thunder Cover and MidnightPlayers.
The party will continue at Powerhouse Pub, Scarlets andHamptons On Sutter, all on Sutter Street, after Fridaysevent. According to ofcials, there will be free admissionfor all Tap ticket holders with a wristband.
The craft beer movement is only going to continueto grow, Kennett said. Its something that can nolonger be ignored and its important for the Folsomcommunity to familiarize itself with this growingtrend. Plus, there are a number of great bars and
restaurants in Folsom that are embracing the craftbeer movement and it helps them to have moreknowledgeable clientele that can truly appreciate whatthey are offering.
Tickets for Friday include $25 for general admission,$50 for the VIP experience and $100 for the Ultimate BrewExperience.

The Elegant Evening Feaston Hinkle Creek will givelocals the opportunity
to spend an evening outdoorson the newly built 80 foot longbridge over Hinkle Creek inFolsom.
The outdoor setting willsparkle with party lights andcandle-lit tables for two set onthe bridge spanning the creek,said Ken Menzer, Folsom CityArborist. The event will take
place Aug. 22 and 23.The bridge was constructed by a
group of volunteers and spans HinkleCreek to provide bike and pedestrianaccess to existing trail segments.
We had 87 different volunteers workingon the bridge since November 2013, Menzersaid. It was completed on May 1. Many of thevolunteers worked hundreds of hours over themonths. All of the parts including 40 foot longglu-lam beams weighing around 700 pounds
and a welded steel yoke weighing about 850pounds, were all hand carried in by large groupsof volunteers.
Hal Scheetz of Scheetz Welding, a local Folsombusiness, completed the steel fabrication andBrian Harrison was the structural engineer,Menzer said. The initial grant $5,000 was appliedfor from REI and received by the Friends of

Folsom Parkways, a local Folsom non-prot.According to Menzer, the Friends added additional matching grant funds to
pay for half of the bridge and the City Parks Department funded the other half.The project was built under the volunteer direction of Menzer and Jim
Konopka, Folsoms senior park planner.This dirt hiking trail is one of the few non-paved trails in Folsom, Menzer
said. It has 50 trail markers to explain the natural history including the plants,
trees, animals and environment.Menzer said this was project was especially important for him.As City Arborist, it is a part of my duty to educate our resident about caring
for our trees. This bridge is a glorious path into the woods to experience whatis slowly disappearing in our city, quietness, he said. The sound of silence isthere, but maybe as a uttering bird or the babbling noise of Hinkle Creek orthe bark of a far off dog, it is pretty quiet. This nature setting does not requiresupplemental irrigation, making this a place to see what naturally grows here.
The locavore four-course dinner by Chef Arturo Vargas of the acclaimedTaste for the Senses catering rm features an innovative menu of appetizers,salad, main courses and dessert for The Elegant Evening Feast on Hinkle Creek.
Main dish selections include vegetarian and gluten-free options.A no-host bar will also offer local wine, beer and hard cider and non-alcoholic
drinks. Seating and drinks begins at 6 p.m. with appetizers at 6:30 p.m. anddinner at 7 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 22 and Saturday Aug. 23. Each nights dinnerseats 120 people. Tickets are $60 per person. Tickets must be purchased byWednesday, Aug. 13.

Jakes Desserts recently opened in Palladio at Broadstone in Folsom and is lling sweetcravings with ice cream, cupcakes and cookies.Diane Marshall, of El Dorado Hills, opened the dessert shop with co-owners Michael(Jake) Jackobsen and Dave Roberts.
The restaurant carries 24 avors of ice cream that are all made onsite and have our freshcupcakes delivered from Cup Cake Craving. Jakes Desserts are afliated with Cupcake Craving.

The El Dorado County Ag in the Classroom will be holding a fundraiser, the 20Mile Taste, on Saturday, Aug. 16.
The event will help fund educational programs like Farm Day and Fields of
Learning, which promote the importance of agriculture.Every May, El Dorado County Ag in the Classroom hosts hundreds of third-grade
students at the fairgrounds for an interactive day of learning.According to Karen Owen, the executive director of Ag in the Classroom, this past
May was the 13th annual Farm Day and hosted about 1,000 students from all overthe county.
Additionally, Ag in the Classroom has a Fields of Learning program, which pairsa school with a local farm, giving kids the chance to gain hands-on experience withagriculture.
Agriculture provides the essentials of life, and its important for kids to knowwhere their food comes from, said Owen.
The 20 Mile Taste will feature some Farm Day activities, which will allow attendeesto see what the kids learn in one of the Ag in the Classroom programs.
It will also feature food and wine sourced from within a 20-mile radius of the eventas well as a rafe and a live auction.
According to Owen, the live auction will include a bicycle tour of Apple Hillprovided by Placerville Bike Shop, a Hollys Hill Vineyards Magnum of Patriarche andfour tickets to their Patriarche party, a Single Leaf Magnum and wine glass basketand a Family Christmas Tree Cutting Adventure.
The Caroll Tuttle Trio, a light jazz group, will be providing live music for the event.The 20 Mile taste will be building off of the sold-out success of last years
event.
As a non-prot organization, the El Dorado CountyAg in the Classroom depends on the generoussupport of its sponsors and events like the
20 Mile Taste to continue providingeducational opportunities for kids.
It will be held at the DaviesFamily Inn at Shadowridge
Ranch, and tickets are $35per person.

They (the ten Booms) trust very much in their faith and that they will getthrough any ordeal in life, said Shuler. Ive learned you can face a lot ofadversity in your life and you cant really do it on your own. You have to rely onyour family and faith.
According to Shuler, because this is the second time the play is beingperformed, the cast had time to more fully develop the characters.
The play is based on a true story and was adapted from the book written byCorrie ten Boom and Elizabeth and John Sherrill, which was rst published in1971.
Wilson was greatly inspired by the message of Corrie ten Booms story.The Hiding Place is a story that needs to be told, said Wilson. Its about
doing the right thing despite the cost, and for me that is a great life lesson.Because of the mature theme of the production, the play is not recommended

The renowned classical performers, Di Wu and AdrianDaurov, will be featured in a special night in Folsom atthe annual Classical Masters Music Festival at 7 p.m. onSaturday, Sept. 27.
Wu had her professional debut as a classical pianist at 14
years old with the Beijing Philharmonic and went on to performwith orchestras in the U.S. and abroad.
She also was a nalist at the 2009 Van Clibum competition,which is partnered with the Classical Masters Music Festival.
Daurov made his debut at age 15 as a cellist with the St.Petersburg Symphony Orchestra. He then went on to wintop prizes at three international competitions in the U.S. andEurope.
He performs in both recitals and orchestras as well as withpop artists such as Alicia Keys, Josh Groban and Sigur Ros. Hehas also been featured on Regis and Kelly Live, Good Morning
America, The View and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.There is also a competition element to the festival, in whichkids of all levels are given the opportunity to learn. It is open tothe public on Sept. 27 and 28. There is no charge to watch thecompetition, but there will be a fee to attend the concert withWu and Daurov.
All competitors, teachers, parents and festival attendees alsohave the opportunity to attend one of the two masters classes.The Piano Masters Class will be taught by Wu and the ChamberMusic Ensemble Master Class will be taught by Daurov.

BURRATA WITH GRILLEDSUMMERTIME PEACH SALAD
AND GRILLED BREADServes two-increase the yield as needed
prep-to-table time: 20 minutesIngredients:2 just-ripe peaches1 piece of burrata cheese (a very soft
specialty form of mozzarella cheese)A sprinkle of Aleppo Pepper, or just regular
black pepper1 baguette, or your favorite loaf of breadA handful of mixed greens, arugula, or any
salad greens that you likeCoriander vinaigrette (recipe follows),
vinaigrette of your choice, or just oil and a litevinegar
Directions:Fire up the grill. Let that preheat while you
get the food prepped.Prepare the dressing, set aside.
Cut the peach in half, removing the stone.Brush each half with a little neutral oil(grapeseed, canola or ricebran oil). Set asideon a tray headed for the grill.
Cut four slices out of the baguette. Cutthem long, long, long on the diagonal, so theslices are very long. Cut a large garlic clovein half and rub each piece of bread verylightly with the cut garlic. Then brush thebread with the same oil you brushed on thepeaches. Put the bread onto the tray withthe peaches.
Take the burrata out of the paper it camein. Drain any liquid. Tear it in half with yourhands (its better when there are roughedges of the cheese exposed, more placesfor the good juices to creep into). Put it ona plate on your countertop to temper a bitwhile you do the grilling.

To grill the peaches:Make sure your grill is clean. Scrub with a grill brush if necessary. Spraying
with non stick spray is a good idea.Place the peaches face down on the grill. Dont move them.Let the peaches sit on the grill until they easily release. That means the sugars
in the peaches have caramelized and they will have a naturally sealed exterior,releasing from the grill easily. If you like, you can give them one quarter turn
and let them grill again. This will give you a nice cross-hatch pattern, pretty forpresentation, but not necessary for good eating.
To grill the bread:Dont take grilling bread lightly. Properly grilled bread is a delicious thing.Put the bread down on the grill and let it sit still, just as you did with the
peach. If the grill catches re, or there is excessive smoke, you want to removethe bread as it will make the bread grey from the smoke. Otherwise, just leaveit until you have nice solid, sturdy grill marks.
Now all you have left to do it plate the dinner:Keep it all pretty tight and close together (it looks prettier). Burrata in the
middle, sprinkle of Aleppo Pepper over the cheese, two peach halves per
plate, bread down and overlapping, and a little pile of nicely dressed greenson the plate.
CORIANDER VINAIGRETTEIngredients:1 tablespoon coriander seeds1 tablespoon Cumin Seeds1 tablespoon Fennel SeedsDirections:Add all seeds to a small skillet and toast them. They are ready when the
seeds become very aromatic. Remove from the skillet to a cutting board. Letcool.
Begin to chop the seeds, and as they begin to go to powder, press themwith the side of your knife to grind them into the cutting board. Keep scrapingthem together, and then mash them again. Soon you will have a lovely powder.Set aside.
Whisk 1 cup of neutral oil or very light olive oil, 1/3 cup of white wine vinegartogether. Whisk in 2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard. Then the toasted andground seeds.
Season to taste with Salt and pepper. Voila, vinaigrette.

What started out as a way to recognize the workput in by members of the football team has alsoturned into a fundraiser for the Folsom Highfootball program.
On Aug. 22, the ninth annual Meet the Bulldogs eventwill be held at 6 p.m. at the Folsom Community Center. Theevent includes dinner, live auction, silent auction and dessertauction as well as the introduction of the football teams.
When we rst came up with the idea, it was to bring thecommunity together and recognize the football players forall their hard work, said Kelly Richardson, wife of co-headcoach Kris Richardson. The varsity players are recognizedindividually, and that can be motivating for kids on theyounger levels and encourage them to work for what theywant (to some day be on the varsity team).
As the event evolved, it has become the programs largestfundraiser. More than 400 people attend the event annuallyand many attend the event every year, even if they dont havekids in the program. Last years event sold out. Parents andbusinesses donate items for the auctions, which help bring infunds for the program.
Its a huge fundraising event to support the program,Folsom varsity co-head coach Troy Taylor said. Secondly,it brings the families together and we recognize the kids. Ithelps to get the people excited about the upcoming season.Its become a big, fun event.

Jake Browning said. They enjoy it. At the end of the day, itsa fundraiser.
Folsom lineman Cody Creason added, I like it a lot. Ithelps raise money for the program and people seem to enjoyit. Its fun when they talk about the varsity players.

football teams to the El Dorado Hills community at the Meet
the Trojans event on Aug. 9 The event begins at 4 p.m. at theSteven Young Amphitheater at Town Center.
The event not only includes the players on the varsity, juniorvarsity and freshman teams, but the Jr. Trojans youth footballand cheer program is also involved, as well as the high schoolcheer squad.

Ryan Sullivan, a senior tight end and defensive end, enjoys the event.Personally, and as a team, we love it, Sullivan said. Its a great opportunity for the team to come
out and show the community the new Trojan teams. This year it will be really good because we onlyhave 19 seniors and a lot of new faces. We have a very young team and this is a great way to introducethe team to the community.
One of the best parts of the event is the enthusiasm shown by the community.At the end when the entire team is standing out there and you see how many people are there
and the support they give us, you realize how much we mean to the community, Sullivan said.
