Some items are so fancy, the retailer doesn't even list a price. Should your recipient have everything but their own coat of arms, Happy Menocal custom heraldry will take commissions. And Jennifer Creel custom jewelry comes studded with diamonds, so we daren't even imagine a quote. There are, of course, plenty of designs from Goop's collaborations, including a monogrammed clutch bag by Claire Vivier ($260), mono-grammed napkins by Bespoke Home ($175 for four), and virtual stationery for Paper-less Post. Ms Paltrow also recommends signed editions of her recently-published books for $55 each (otherwise $21 and $23 on Amazon.com).

In fact, Ms Paltrow really has a penchant for all things monogrammed. She recom-mends getting recipients' initials featured on everything from Sarah Chloe bracelets ($369, also from the Goop site) to a Leath-er Head football to Dodocase iPad covers to LL Bean tote bags (is this a ruse to prevent returns for store credit?)

Nearly two weeks after the New York International Olive Oil Competition announced this year’s best olive oils, winning producers around the world continue to rejoice. But there are a few more awards that the competition organizers have not yet unveiled, until now. Cord asked well-known New York designer Debbie Millman if she and her team at Sterling Brands would judge the entries to determine the best package designs. “Not only do I happen to love olive oil, but it sounded like a fun project and I was glad to participate in an event like this, the first of its kind in New York,” said Millman.

Debbie Millman is a partner and president of the design division at Sterling Brands, a leading brand identity firm. Millman is President Emeritus of AIGA, chair of the School of Visual Arts’ master’s program in Branding, and the chairwoman of the judges for the Dieline Package Design Awards. She is the author of “Look Both Ways: Illustrated Essays on the Intersection of Life and Design.” Millman and the Sterling Brands team assessed the entries according to these criteria: level of impact and uniqueness in the marketplace, ingenuity, distinctiveness, use of typography, use of illustration or photography and quality of structure. The judges decided to award medals the Most Authentic and Most Innovative Packaging, and the top award for the Best Package Design overall.

The Red Dot institution is one of the world’s largest and most-acclaimed international design competitions in the world with more than 15,000 submissions from 70 countries in 2012. It is divided into the “red dot award: product design”, the “red dot award: commu-nication design” and the “red dot award: design concept".

The product line targets the international market and stands out through the colour of the bottle. The selected design is elegant and contemporary yet at the same time also reminiscent of potion bottles from old times. The figure “5” was chosen as a fitting brand name, with “five” standing for the quintes-sence of olive oil. Creative Direction by Designers United.

The winners will be celebrated at a festive award ceremony on 24 October 2012 in the Konzerthaus Berlin. After the ceremony, all of the award-winning works of 2012 will be on show in the special exhibition “Design on stage – winners red dot award: communica-tion design 2012” in the Alte Münze Berlin.

This Greek olive oil comes in simple circular bottles and stripped-back packaging. The FIVE Olive Oil is bottled and distributed by Greek brand World Excellent Products in bottles that are different for each oil variety. Clear bottles are for extra virgin olive oil, matte black is used for organic extra virgin and matte white vessels contain ultra premium extra virgin. The product is also available in five-litre tin containers, which have rounded corners and bear the same minimal aesthetic as the bottles.

The brand's co-founder and marketing director Dimitrios Panagiotidis has also created a limited-edi-tion design with an image of ancient Greek athletes printed in black on the matte white bottle. "We have the ambition of creating one of the finest premium olive oil brands in the world, with sensational packag-ing layout and excellent product quality," said the company. The branding features simple typography and a minimal logo by Greek company Designers United, which won a Red Dot Award for the visual identity last year.

Σε μια εποχή δύσκολη για την Ελλάδα, είναι πολλά τα ελληνικά brands που στρέφονται στην διεθνή αγορά σημειώνοντας πολύ καλές «επιδόσεις». Αλλά και το ελληνικό design που αποτυπώνεται στις συσκευασίες τους κερδίζει πανηγυρικά τα βραβεία και τις εντυπώσεις σε διεθνείς διαγωνισμούς και εκθέσεις. Ο σταρ του σόου και πρωταγωνιστής των απονομών, είναι το design των συσκευασιών τροφίμων. «Ο καινοτόμος σχεδιασμός και η εντυπωσιακή τυπογραφία του, σε συνδυασμό με την εξαιρετική απλότητά του, συνιστούν ένα εκπληκτικό προϊόν», είπε μέλος της κριτικής επιτροπής των Dieline Awards για το ελαιόλαδο Five, των Designers United, το οποίο πήρε την πρώτη θέση στην κατηγορία του.

Δεκαπέντε διακρίσεις κέρδισαν τα ελληνικά δημιουργικά γραφεία την χρονιά που πέρασε στα Red Dot Awards, συνεχίζοντας το θρίαμβο των European Design Awards όπου η ελληνική συμμετοχή –με πέντε χρυσά μετάλλια και είκοσι συνολικά διακρίσεις- κατέκτησε τη δεύτερη θέση ανάμεσα σε τριάντα τέσσερις χώρες. Τα κουφέτα Pebbles (σχ. mousegraphics) πήραν το πρώτο βραβείο στα Dieline Awards, ενώ το ελαιόλαδο Eleia (Bob Studio) πήρε το χρυσό στα EDA. Οι κονσέρβες Trata OnIce, η σαμπάνια Blink και το Καλαθάκι Λήμνου (των Beetroot), τα ελαιόλαδα Etesian και 100% (των mousegraphics), τα φακελάκια τσαγιού Apivita (DKDesign) είναι μερικές μόνο από τις συσκευασίες τροφίμων που έχουν διακριθεί διεθνώς. The European Design Awards, also known as the ED-Awards, are annual awards presented to European designers for outstanding work in the communication design field. The ED-Awards is a joint initiative of design magazines from across Europe and endorsed by the International Council of Communication Design. The ED-Awards are judged by a panel of representa-tives (journalists and design critics) from fifteen European design magazines, while the winning submissions are featured in the ED-Awards Catalogue.

With participations from 34 european countries (a record number), picking out the winners couldn't have been an easy task.The ED-Awards jury though, made up of representatives from 15 deifferent design magazines, is the most competent of its kind.
