Restorative Justice (RJ)

involves supporting students

who have wronged others to

realise:

The consequences of their actions

The impact on others

The need for reparation

The time needed to heal the harm

caused

RJ Allows “victims”,

“offenders” and other

interested parties to come

together voluntarily to:

Achieve reconciliation over what

has happened

Realise the impact on those

concerned and understand and

accept the emotions involved

Plan reparation and reintegration

with the input of all parties

Conflict

Bullying

Fights

Behaviour

Friendship issues

Issues out in the community

Issues between students from different

schools

Issues between teachers and students

Incidents of racism, homophobia and other

forms of discrimination

Restorative Justice meeting in action

• The Victim To feel that they are supported and free to express their feelings without fear of ridicule or further reprisals.

• Students To not feel alienated or castigated for their actions, but to take responsibility for their own actions and feel supported to make amends.

• Parents Parents of victims and perpetrators supporting their children, ensuring their voices are heard as well while feeling supported by the school.

• Staff To feel supported and valued and be given the opportunity to express the impact on them.

• Wider community Help reduce criminal activity and anti-social behaviour in the communities where the students live.

What is Restorative Justice? RJ can be used to resolve: RJ Supports……..
