“Convention is a great place to network,” says Sarah Boyd, studio and events manager for Preston Fitness First and a FitPro assessor. “Last year, I caught up with people I hadn’t seen in a long time. It’s also really useful for getting introduced to new people. The first time I went to Convention, it helped me put my face in the right places. It’s how I became a FitPro assessor.

“Yoga, Pilates and BODYBALANCE are my interests. I went to Jayne Nicholls’s Freestyle Fitness Yoga seminar and booked a course with her as a result of that.

“At the 2011 Convention, registration had moved and, with the retail village, it created a central meeting point. Quite a few sessions focused on PTs, which I didn’t mind because the PT lectures were a useful way to keep myself

knowledgeable about what’s happening in the industry.

“I hadn’t done ViPR before Convention but I did the Peter Twist session and loved it. I’m trying to persuade my manager to buy some new kit at the moment!

“For me, the Stott Pilates lecture was the most useful. Chatting with trainers after the session really allowed me to understand where they’re coming from and broadened my knowledge.”

Chatting with trainers allowed me to understand where they’re coming from and broadened my knowledge

“Convention last year was a great opportunity to get together with all the people from my club, meet new people in the industry and pick up some great ideas,” says Chelsey Shanahan, general exercise manager at Virgin Active, Clapham and Regents Park branches, who attended Convention for the first time in 2011.

“Jay Blahnik’s opening ceremony was amazing. He gave us all wristbands and I loved the speech so much that I’m still wearing it months later. I also went to his seminar on flexibility, which was useful. Since then, I’ve found I have more information to give clients after group X classes about stretching: my knowledge has really increased.

“Carl McCartney’s seminar on group X in clubs and how to make timetables more successful was very helpful – I’ve been using some of the information recently here at Virgin. I also enjoyed the Les Mills sessions – the masterclasses were inspirational.

“I’m lucky to go with Virgin Active but I would still definitely go under my own steam: it’s great value. At this year’s event, I’m going to push myself to stay away from familiar events and go to as many different things as possible.”

Les Mills’ new fitness phenomenon CXWORX pushes you to your limit: 30 minutes of gruelling core work that delivers real results. Try it for yourself – book your place on our CXWORX masterclass led by the LMI uK trainer team on Saturday 14 April from 13:00-13:35.

While most group fitness classes are dominated by women, CXWORX will

appeal to men who enjoy group PT sessions and want a workout that’s just that little bit more challenging. It’s truly motivational and empowers you with a results-driven workout. It’s hardcore – and you’ll feel and see the results.

Right now, it’s likely you have clients who want to:

• Tighten and tone• Improve functional strength• Assist injury prevention• Improve posture

That’s where CXWORX comes in.

The scientifically based class features both isolated and integrated exercises. Isolated exercises include traditional crunches, oblique twists, back extensions and bridges that isolate load in the individual muscles that make up our

core, while integrated exercises combine these muscles with upper- and lower-limb strength. Such exercises replicate the muscle recruitment patterns you see in activities such as walking and so provide you with the best type of functional strength.

The 30-minute format of CXWORX makes it an ideal express class and it’s perfectly suited to lunchtime slots or immediately after peak-time classes. If you haven’t already experienced CXWORX, we’re excited for you. We know you’re going to love it.

If you think you can handle it, come and try it for yourself. Book onto the CXWORX masterclass at FitPro Convention on Saturday 14 April from 13:00-13:35 and be part of the core revolution. It’s no ordinary workout.

CONVENTION 2012

“Only by being there and learning from the presenters and fellow fitness professionals can I really accelerate my learning,” says Beth Greenaway, a personal trainer and owner of Merlin Solutions who has attended all but one of FitPro’s Conventions since 1996. “This is not a convention for those who just want to have a fun-filled weekend away, but a serious event for those who are prepared to invest in themselves and their business.

“FitPro Convention is honestly the premier event for trainers in the uK. Where else do you get to learn from so many top international presenters in one place, such as Jay Blahnik and Michol Dalcourt? You can’t fail to leave feeling inspired and motivated.

“I don’t see attending Convention as an expense but as an investment, which

helps me on the road to personal success. Those who attend give themselves the best opportunity to stand out from the crowd. At Convention I get to ask questions of some of the greatest minds in our industry and to take my knowledge and understanding to a new level.

“Only by exposing myself to this kind of ground-breaking information can I continue to evolve and make sure I’m living up to my desire to be a high-quality trainer who gets results.

“I love it when the Convention programme comes out; I spend a quiet evening trying to pack as much as possible into my schedule. For me, Convention represents the start of an exciting new year in my business, with the opportunity to stretch my mind and invest in my personal development.”

Convention is an investment that helps me on the road to success

At Convention I get to ask questions of some of the greatest minds in our industry

“If you look at the price for the weekend, for the people you get to see and the networking you can do, attending Convention is a no-brainer,” says self-employed personal trainer Ali West. “From

the knowledge you acquire, you can make your weekend pay for itself in no time. If you are a self-employed trainer, you can make some great contacts and, if you work in the health club environment, you can learn loads of new skills to progress your career.

“I like the lectures and workshops because I love educating myself on new ideas and ways to move forward in the industry. Also, you get to learn from the best trainers and presenters in the world of fitness.

“At Convention 2012, I’m looking forward to working with the team from FASTER health and fitness and also seeing presenters such as Michol Dalcourt, John Hardy, Adam Wolfe and Bobby Cappuccio.”
