Food Drive is a Success! By: Zach B.

Fitch Bulldog News
This year, stu-
dent council held its
annual Food Drive.
During our food drive,
all of the classes col-
lected food. To keep
the Food Drive fun,
points were assigned
to each food item.
Some items this year
were worth more
points than last year.
This is because the
food bank we sent the
food to was in need of
some things more than
others. If the items
they needed were
worth more, people
would bring them in. If
a student brought in 3
points worth of food
they were able partici-
pate in CRAZY HAIR
DAY!!!! Another way
that students could
participate in Crazy
Hair Day was if their
class reached a 30
point goal. If they met
the goal, the whole
class could participate
in Crazy Hair Day.
Some of the
items we needed this
year were: toilet pa-
friends and have a lot of
fun.
The Valentine’s
Day parties were a blast! In
fifth grade we all made
boxes in math. Each of us
also made our own ice
cream sundae. In my class-
room there was caramel,
magic shell, chocolate syrup
and sprinkles to decorate
our ice cream. We also
played games and won
prizes.
In fourth grade
they decorated brown bags
for there Valentine’s. Every-

Journey to Play House Square By: Erika R.
the final battle against the High
School, but Fitch is very very very
GREAT at Basketball!!!!!!!! WHOO
HOO!!!!!!
On Thursday, February 12,
2009 , there was a basketball game
called The Battle of the Schools at
Olmsted Falls High School! This
basketball game was not only a
basketball game it was a basketball
game where four schools battle
against each other, Falls Lenox
against Fitch, and the Middle
School against the High School.
Teachers played from all four
schools! FITCH beat Falls Lenox,
and went to the final battle; the
HIGH SCHOOL won against the
Middle School and also went to
the championships! In between
games people paid a dollar to take
a shot on the court.
For the final battle, all you
had to do was get a bag of pop-
corn and a drink and you were set
to watch the most intense basket-
ball battle ever! Sadly, Fitch lost
almost time for lunch and if
we stayed, we would
probably miss the Valen-
tine’s Party. That day was
fun for everyone.
The fourth graders of
Fitch Intermediate School
went to Playhouse Square
to see the play Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters. There were kids from almost
every city around Cleve-
land. The play was great!
There was singing and
dancing. When the play
was done, everyone
clapped and cheered. In
my opinion, I wanted it to
go on all day. But it was

place in the gym and others
took place in the hallways.
Students who participated
could have won some of
these prizes: a water bottle,
a Wii, a pogo stick and lots
more.
Mrs. Zbin organized
Fitch’s Hoops for Hearts
activities. Students partici-
pated in Hoops for Heart
to raise money for the
American Heart Associa-
tion. In February, 4th and
5th grade students came to
Fitch and had fun! Some of
the events were tricks
where they taught you
how to spin the ball on
your finger. We also played
Bump which was a game of
getting people out. You can
do this by getting a basket
before the person in front
of you. Some stations took

Meet Mr. Vormelker ! By: Rachel W.
think she
is an
awesome
teacher!
Mrs.Pilko is a very
nice 4th grade teacher. Her
classroom is at the end of
the 4th grade hall, she
teaches science and lan-
guage arts. Her favorite
unit is “Land and Water”.
She loves teaching but if
she could be anything else
she would be a nutritionist
or personal trainer. She also
loves traveling; she loves
the Caribbean it is her fa-
vorite place to travel. She
also enjoys music her favor-
ite genre is rock. When she
was in school her best sub-
ject was language arts. I
too! His
favorite
sports
team is
the
Cleveland
Browns.
His favorite book is Robinson Cru-
soe.
You would be lucky to
have a great teacher like Mr. Vor-
Mr. Vormelker is my 5th
grade teacher here at Fitch. He
teaches Science and Language Arts.
In Science we do a lot of hands-on
experiments including ecocolumns
and building, designing, and testing
cars.
I interviewed Mr. Vor-
melker and here is what he had to
say. At Fitch Intermediate School,
his favorite thing to do is work
with students. He went to Bald-
win Wallace College.
Mr. Vormelker has two
kids, Clay and Katie. Clay is five
years old and Katie is three years
old. Mr. Vormelker and his family
live in Brunswick.
For fun, Mr. Vormelker
likes spending time with his family.
He also likes watching football
rating it because
it is exciting. I
also enjoyed it
because it is a
good story and
if you like na-
ture you should
read this book.
My Side of the Mountain
by Jean Craighead George is
about a boy named Sam Gribly

York City home to live alone in
the Catskill Mountains. He gets
a pet falcon, which he names

a raccoon, Jessie Coon James,
and a weasel, the Baron Wea-
sel. Near the end of summer he
meets and makes friends with a
man who he calls Bando. Will
he make it through the winter.

The Warriors series is a great series if
you like mystery. It is mainly of cats and their
problems with the other clans. The different clans are Thun-
derClan, ShadowClan, WindClan, and RiverClan. The author
is Erin Hunter, but she actually is three people. The authors
didn’t want their readers to get mixed up, so they made up a
name. In the books, you spend most of your time in Thun-
derClan. You spend your time learning about Rusty/ Firepaw/
Fireheart/ Firestar. The adventures that they have are thrilling
because the authors show a lot of detail so you can have the
best visual picture. There are over 20 books and a website. I
would give this series 5 out of 5 in ratings.
Poetry
“History”“History”“History”“History”
By: Taylor H.
History is fun,
History is cool,
History is a subject,
You do in school.
There is Martin Luther King Jr;
There is Abraham Lincoln,
They all fought,
For what they believed in.
There is Amerigo Veccpucci,
Magellan and Balboa,
Christopher Columbus,
(Who was kind of kooky.)
History! History!
It’s so much fun.
So take your seat,
Because the fun has just begun.

KKKK----Kids Kids Kids Kids
By: Taylor H.
On Wednesday February 4,
2009 the K-KIDS made Valentine’s
Day door hangers for resi-
dents in the hospital. The
door hangers said things
like “Happy Valentine’s Day!” or “I
love you” on them. The patients,
I’m sure, will love all of them!!

Science OlympiadScience OlympiadScience OlympiadScience Olympiad
By: Zach B.By: Zach B.By: Zach B.By: Zach B.
This year, our school participated in the Elementary Science Olympiad at Cleveland State
University. Science Olympiad is a science competition for kids in 4th-6th grade. The Olympiad
consists of many different events relating to Science like Periodic Table, Anatomy, Metric Meas-
urement, and lots of others. We studied for a long time for the Olympiad. We practiced before
school, after school, and during recess. We were so excited when the day, February 21, 2009,
finally came!
We arrived at CSU by bus that Saturday. All of our team was together, including 6th grad-
ers, for the first time as we piled into the auditorium for the opening ceremony. After that we
went back to our “base” where we relaxed before our events. During the day we all had our
events. Then, the moment we all waited for, the science show and award ceremony!
We all ran to the auditorium in excitement! The science show was really cool. There was
this scientist who put Mentos in pop, and lots of other cool experiments. Then the award cere-
mony. We got first place in events like Bugs, Reflection Relay, and lots of others. The final
award was the overall trophy! We got 4th place out of 24 schools all over Northeast Ohio!! Con-
gratulations Science Olympiad Team!
