=========EDUCATION=========
Master of Science in BiologyCompleted coursework (Dec. 2010) / Expected graduation (May 2011)CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, Northridge, CA, 4.0 GPA
Bachelor of Science in Marine BiologyCALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, Long Beach, CA, Magna Cum Laude, 3.9 GPA, 2007
==================RELATED EXPERIENCE==================
CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, Northridge, CA, 2008 n PresentFish Ecology Lab Graduate Research Assistant- Currently involved in the analysis of batch fecundity, otolith microstructure,
and gut fullness of several southern California fish species.
CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, Northridge, CA, 2008 n PresentTeaching Assistant- Lead students in the observation of nature in several state parks in Los Angeles County.
Worked as a teaching assistant in the following classes: Marine Biological Processes,
Ecology of Fishes, Biology 100, and Marine Ecology.
SAN ONOFRE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION, San Clemente, CA, 2009 n 2010
Artificial Reef Mitigation Project Assistant / SCUBA Research Assistant- Evaluated the status of a recently installed artificial reef in difficult field work
conditions. Spearfished as a SCUBA research assistant to collect fish specimens.
Dissected collected fish to remove and catalog otoliths, guts, and gonads, analyzing
over 2,000 fish per summer. Successfully measured fish tissue production on three
reefs, achieving team goals and meeting all deadlines.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ARTIFICIAL REEF EVALUATION PROJECT, multiple locations, 2009n 2010
Principal Investigator- Developed protocols to evaluate a series of artificial and natural reefs in the southern
California bight in terms of their fish assemblages, reef structure, and fishproduction
(fecundity, growth, and gut fullness of fish). Operated boat, navigated usingGPS, SCUBA
surveyed reefs, collected fish specimens via spearfishing, dissected collectedfish, and
analyzed batch fecundity, otolith microstructure, and gut fullness of fishes.
CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, Northridge, CA, 2008Research Assistant- Conducted daily habitat and fish surveys at mulitple sites along Catalina Island.
CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, Long Beach, CA, 2008Supplemental Instruction Leader
- Led an adjunct course in biology to provide additional support for students.
PACIFIC STATES MARINE FISHERIES COMMISSION, multiple locations, 2007Recreational Fisheries Field Sampler- Monitored the recreational lobster fishery and conducted surveys along Los Angeles
County marine access pointsoevaluating the recreational lobster catch, which had not
previously been evaluated. Findings resulted in significant impact on fisherypolicies,
including a new requirement for recreational lobster fishermen to report theircatches
using lobster cards.
CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, Long Beach, CA, 2007Fish Genetics Lab Undergraduate Research Assistant- Assisted in the extraction of California halibut DNA and PCR (polymerase chain
reaction).
UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA SOUTHEAST, Juneau and Sitka, AK, 2007Research Assistant- Performed field duties, including operating small boat, collecting water samples, operating
a CTD Sensor, and surveying reefs in nearshore Juneau and Sitka, Alaska via dry suit SCUBAdiving. Lab work involved maintaining tanks and overseeing crab manipulation
experiments.
CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, Long Beach, CA, 2005 n 2007Reproductive Biology Lab Undergraduate Research Assistant- Assisted graduate student in collecting and dissecting round stingrays, sectioning stingray

============================GRADUATE RESEARCH EXPERIENCE============================
Title: A comparison of fish production on natural and artificial reefs in the southern California bight
Graduate Thesis Project, CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, Northridge, CA, 2008 n Present
Presentation of Work: WSN 2009, 2010; Benthic Ecology Meeting 2010; CSM ResearchSymposium 2010
CSUN Research Symposium 2010; SCAS 2010; JMIH 2010
- Study compared five pairs of artificial and natural reefs off the coast of southern California in terms
of fish community structure and production. Measured somatic growth and production of reproductive
products of the fish species collected on the reefs. Assessed the function ofartificial reefs and
provided significant insight into the reefsi features that often make them more productive.
=================================UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH EXPERIENCE=================================
Title: Modeling damselfish territoriality: roles of fish density and environmental structural complexityTropical Marine Ecology, Independent Project, CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, LongBeach, CA, 2008
Presentation of Work: CSU Long Beach Research Symposium 2008- Study investigated the contribution of fish density and structural complexityof the reef to the development
of territory size and aggression in the Beaugregory, Stegastes leucostictus atGlovers Reef Atoll in Belize.
Title: Habitat Preferences of Juvenile Red King Crab (Paralithodes camtschaticus)UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA SOUTHEAST, Juneau, AK, 2007Presentation of Work: UAS Research Symposium 2007- Experimental lab manipulations and SCUBA surveys of the nearshore environmentsurrounding Juneau, Alaska
revealed that red king crab juveniles significantly prefer structurally complex biogenic habitat, such askelp, over low complexity habitat.
Title: Apoptotic Regulation of Seasonal Testicular Regression in Round Stingrays(Urobatis halleri)
CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, Long Beach, CA, 2007Presentation of Work: Graduate Women in Science Conference 2007; Long Beach Research Symposium 2007

- Round stingray testis tissue collected was analyzed using an in-situ assessment of apoptotic cell death,
the terminal deoxynucleotidyl dUTP nick-end labeling assay (TUNEL). These results suggest that morphologic
changes observed in testes are caused by activation of programmed cell death,and stingrays store sperm for
later use in the mating season.
Title: Influence of Epibiosis and Size of the Wavy Turban Snail Lithopoma undosaon Predator Preference
CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, Long Beach, CA; UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA,Los Angeles, CA 2006Presentation of Work: Wrigley Institute research symposium 2006- Study investigated whether epibiosis on Lithopoma undosa has an effect, positive or otherwise, on predator
preference. Snails lacking epibionts were shown to be more vulnerable to predation.
