Mississippi MissionsDominic Kendall
Clarksdale, Mississippi was one of the greatest experi-ences of my 18 year long life. We entered the week with some of us being veterans of previous mission trips to Clarksdale and some that had never shared their faith with anyone. We all had the same thing on our mind, TO SEE GOD WORK. The first day we handed out fliers and canvased the areas we were going to be in to reach out to the children. It really touched my heart because there were dozens of people who re-membered us from 3 years ago and wondered where we had been these past few summers. My group had only two or three veterans, the rest were either new to mission trips or had just never been to Clarksdale.
Within our group and the area we were covering, you could just feel God’s presence so strongly. In the areas we worked, I was in charge of teaching the older kids. Two boys, Chris and Peanut, who were leaders and re-spected highly among their peers, stayed on my heart constantly. Throughout the week I poured out my heart and my love to these boys, sharing with them how much God loves them. The highlight of the week was on Wednesday when I got the chance to share the gospel with them. Chris accepted Christ and then the very next day Peanut did as well. The change and interest the boys had in learning more about Jesus was just so humbling. To see God working at a pace I didn’t even think was possible. Both boys were given Bibles and I tried to give them a verse that surprisingly fit both their situations and lives; “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” Philippians 4:13.
Lastly, I would like to thank the church for the oppor-tunity to spread the gospel to these people in Clarks-dale.
Do you have a testimony you would like to share with others? Send it to [email protected]
Youth Mission Trip to Clarksdale, MS - 69 youth ministered to 500 children through VBS and Backyard Bible Clubs, resulting in 143 professions of faith.
VBS at FBC - 1,043 children participated in VBS this year, resulting in 56 professions of faith, of which over 25 have already been baptized.
Youth Panama City Trip - 141 youth made the trip to Panama City, where 18 professed faith in Jesus and were baptized there. In addition, 9 were scriptually baptized, 6 rededicated their lives, and 8 announced a call to the ministry.
Music Camp - This year was the 2nd highest attendance in the 19 years the camp has been held. The week culminated with an excellent program.
VBS in Summerfield, SC - Our College students spent a week at Glenn Metts’ church holding VBS for almost 50 kids. Of course, that was a great blessing to Glenn.
Our Interim Search Committee, chaired by Jeff Mills, has secured an outstanding pastor to serve as our interim for the next few months until a new pastor is called to our church. This recommendation will be presented to the church within the next few days.

Fruitful Summer at FBCThis summer has been a very exciting time at FBC. Here are just a few of the great things we have seen the Lord do:
Our Pastor Search Committee has been elected and is organizing their search. The committee is composed of 12 members and is chaired by Judge Dwight Stokes, who has a rich history of service and leadership in our church. Other members include; Steve Brewer, Suzie Delozier, Steve Galyon, Karen King, Roger McFalls, Beverly Murrell, Lyle Overbay, Charlie Ownby, George Seaton, Glenn Turner, and Jackie Underwood. Please pray daily for the committee and encourage them as you have the opportunity.
Thank you for your faithfulness in attending, serving, giving, and praying for our church, staff, deacons, committee leaders and all of our members during this time of transition. Our Lord has led and blessed FBC for more than 220 years. He will provide a Senior Pastor who will be the right man for the days ahead. Please pray for that man and his family even now as the Lord begins to prepare them for the change to come in their lives.
On a personal note, each of the members of our staff considers it a privilege to serve at First Baptist Sevierville.
Yours for Him, Roland Maddox, Executive Associate Pastor

Where are They Now, Part 2Chris KirbyAssistant Student Minister
Recently, we sent a mission team to work with
Glenn Metts, who is now serving as Pastor at Pleas-
ant Hill Baptist Church in Springfield, SC. It was a
true joy to be able to fellowship with Glenn, who
is the most Christlike man I have ever known and
a wonderful minister. Before we headed to SC, I
asked Glenn to answer a few questions for our
“Where are They Now?” section, so that you can
know how to best pray for him and his ministry.
Here are his responses:
1. What are some lessons you learned at FBC Sevierville, that you are applying in your current ministry?
-When I as a leader grow in my passion for evangelism and missions, that stirs a greater passion among the people. I want to make sure I stay passionate to reach the lost at home and around the world.
-I learned the value of being focused in the ministry God has called us to, where He has placed us and striving to always do ministry with excellence.
-I learned the value of giving the ministry away, helping people discover their gifts and talents and how to use them for the kingdom, I learned about the value of mentoring others.

of a ten-week project rather than a three or four
week project.
A typical week on SMP involves working at
Dollywood or Splash Country Tuesday through
Saturday in the mornings and afternoons. In the
evenings, we have different events. On Tuesdays,
we have a time when we teach from the Bible on
a particular theme such as intimacy with Christ
or the Christian Community. On Wednesday,
the students have a free night. On Thursday, we
have a project-wide social. We have evangelism
training on Friday and an evangelistic outreach
on Saturday. About half-way through the summer
we begin to have outreaches on Friday nights
as well. We attend church on Sunday morning
and evening. We have discipleship training on
Monday mornings in which we train the leaders
of the SMP how to help the other students grow
spiritually. On Monday afternoons, we teach the
2. What are some goals you have set for your
church?
-We are going to focus on growing our church through small groups. We have started two new classes to reach age groups we are missing.
-We want to update our buildings. We plan to install a projector, camera, and screen in the sanctuary. We are currently in the process of installing a playground. We intend to install new signs around the church and on a major highway nearby.
-We are developing a CARE ministry.
-We are adding additional deacons to serve and will be holding a deacon and wives retreat this fall.
-We will be taking our first international mission trip this fall to London.
-We plan to hold three large outreach events this year: a Women’s Luncheon, Men’s Wild Game Supper, and Vacation Bible School.
3. How can our church family best pray for you and
your church family?
-Pray for wisdom as we continue to seek ways to engage our community and reach the lost.
-Pray for our first international mission trip this September to London.
-Pray for me as I lead and preach God’s word.
-Pray we are able to connect with young families and maintain them.
Our mission team was able to encourage Brother
Glenn, invest in the young people at his church,
and lead twelve people to faith in Christ. It was
great to see the joy in Glenn’s eyes as he saw in
God work in such great ways at Pleasant Hill. Please
keep him and that precious congregation in your
prayers.
students how to study the Bible. Our Monday
nights are free.
It has been a privilege partnering with First Baptist
Church the past six years. I believe that our con-
nection with each other has grown more and more
each year. The growth of our partnership has kept
pace with the growth of our project size, which
went from 40 students in 2006 to 98 this summer.
It is hard to imagine how this growth could have
been possible without First Baptist Church. The
church has given oversight to our Hispanic stu-
dents while they volunteer at First Baptist, allowed
us to use lots of facilities, fed our students on many
occasions, adopted our students into their families.
That’s just a few ways the church has served us. As
a staff team, we thank God for First Baptist Church
of Sevierville and how you all have ministered to us
over the years.
Campus Outreach Mike JacksonCampus Outreach Director
At it’s core, the Summer Mountain Project (SMP) is
a training project. Our hope is to develop mature,
Christian leaders from our campus ministries and
the SMP is a key aspect of our strategy. We hope
to change the students’ devotional lives, their view
of and function within the church, the way they
interact with the lost, the way they relate to their
parents, the way they relate to the opposite sex,
the way they study the Bible, the way they view
work, and the purpose for which they are living.
The SMP lasts for ten weeks. The reason for this is
that our endeavor is to help the students develop
new lifestyle changes in these areas. We want to
foster life-long habits of studying the Bible, sharing
their faith, giving to missions, serving the church,
etc. It is easier to realize this result over the course
