COMING IN SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBEREXTRAVAGANT GENEROSITY
PLEDGE DRIVE FOR 2012
The Finance Committee and The Stewardship Team Committee will be conducting our Pledge drive for 2012, in the fall this year. The pledge drive will be called Extravagant Generosity. I know you are going to say we just had our pledge drive, and that is true, but that was for the year 2011. The Finance Committee and The Stewardship Team Committee feels that it will be easier to write a budget for 2012 if we have an idea of what kind of income we can expect. We used to do the Pledge drive in the fall, and we are going to do it again in the fall. We want to have the pledge drive completed before we go into the holiday season when we all get busy.
Extravagant Generosity will start on Sunday, September 25th, and will continue until Sunday, October 23rd. The only exception will be on Sunday, October 2nd, when we will have World Communion Sunday. During Extravagant Generosity, Pastor Donna will be speaking on this subject during her sermon. You will be receiving information about this when you come to church, or in the mail. You will be asked to participate, and I think you will like it. During this time we will not be calling your gift to the church a pledge, but an Estimate of Giving which is what we have called it in the past. On Sunday, October 23rd, you will be asked to turn in your Estimate of Giving card for 2012. After the worship service we will have a wonderful potluck lunch to celebrate the completion of Extravagant Generosity.

Give to God what is God’sBy XF. Chuckua Yang
Then Jesus said to them, “give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.” Mark 12:17(NIV)
One thing I like best in this superpower country, the United State of America, is to pay taxes to the government’s Internal Revenue Services (IRS), but some people may not agree, instead of wanting “Taxes Free,” lets think about why and how this country had became the great superpower and wealthy as the world’s parent. Yet, there still remain some of the poorest countries out there in the world?
The easy answer is that “Good Taxes Law’s mean Good Government’s control” and “Poor Taxes Law’s mean Poor Government’s.” I’m so grateful to the government who wrote and implemented the IRS-Law to make this country, the USA, one of the greatest and wealthiest country in the world, compared to those superpower which have good law and those lawless countries that which remain some of the poorest countries as well. Thanks be to God for our forefathers whom have made wise decisions, leading us into today’s world where we are sharing their dreams and wealth.
2000+ years ago, the Pharisees and Herodians indicted Jesus with the question of whether or not, taxes should be paid to Caesar. However, Jesus knew their hypocrisy behind this question and simply asked them for a coin (denarus). He asked, “Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?” They replied, “Caesar.” Then Jesus said to them, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s”.
Our FUMC 150+ years serving Christ Ministry of Oroville and is still standing today, because of the love, and faithfulness hearts, of those members and forefathers who have done the enormous works to gave (tithed) and supported this beautiful church. Friends, if we want this church to be healthy, wealthy and continue to serve God’s will for 1000+ years to come, we must do our part as God has commanded in Malachi which says, “you should bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be plenty foods in the storehouse.” Malachi 3:10a.
This month of October, has been marked as our stewardship campaigns. Let’s think to ourselves about the grace, peace and blessing we had received, remember that the silver, gold and wealth in this world belongs to God. Now is the time for us to give (tithe) back to God what is God’s in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. God Bless.
Blessing,
Pastor Chuckua Yang

IN AUGUST, WE WERE ABLE TO CATCH UP ON A LOT OF PAST DUE BILLS WHICH ALLOWED ME TO PAY ALL SEPTEMBER BILLS. OUR QUARTERLY PAYMENT FOR THE SR. PASTOR’S HEALTH INSURANCE IS DUE
IN OCTOBER. WE ARE RECEIVING EQUITABLE SALARY FOR PASTOR DONNA OF $625 PER MONTH, AND THIS IS BEING SET ASIDE EACH MONTH TO GO TOWARDS HER HEALTH INSURANCE BILL OF $3788 PER
QUARTER. HOWEVER, AS THIS AMOUNT TOTALS ONLY $2025 (FOR 3 MONTHS), WE STILL NEED TO COME UP WITH $1763 DOLLARS EXTRA IN OCTOBER TO COVER THIS BILL. ANY EXTRA YOU MIGHT BE
ABLE TO DONATE TO GO TOWARDS THIS BILL, WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL THE PEOPLE IN OUR CONGREGATION WHO DONATE NOT ONLY THEIR MONEY, BUT
ALSO THEIR TIME. WHEN YOU SEE ONE OF OUR YOUTH, THANK THEM IN PERSON FOR ALL THE HELP THEY GAVE AT THE SALMON FESTIVAL FOOD BOOTH. I WAS THERE, AND THEY WERE TRULY A
GODSEND. PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR OUR CHURCH’S FINANCES.

Thanks to our wonderful congregation for supporting the food pantry and helping to feed the people of our church and community. Pastor Donna reports the pantry is used frequently. The Outreach and Witness committee would like to try a new approach to keeping the pantry stocked. Beginning in February we are asking that the congregation bring different food items each Sunday of the month. By doing this we hope to keep the pantry stocked with a variety of food. NON PERISHABLES ONLY! We don’t expect you to bring everything on the list, just whatever you can.

Christmas BasketsThe Stewardship Committee is once again doing Christmas Gift Baskets for the Christmas Season. Stewardship would appreciate it very much if each committee would donate a gift basket to our Christmas Basket drawing. If each member of the committee participates in this it will only be a minimal amount involved for each member. Any church member who wishes to donate a gift basket is also welcome to do so. We have some baskets if you need a basket. If you would like we will put the baskets together for you if you bring the gift items to us.
Stewardship finances our participation in the Christmas Light Parade with the proceeds from the Christmas Basket drawing and the balance goes to the General Fund. This is one of Stewardships outreach programs, which we participate in every year that makes our church more visible in the Oroville Community. Please let us know what type of Christmas Basket you will be doing. Randy, 533-5921 or [email protected] We need the gift baskets by November 5, 2011, as we will be starting the ticket sales at the Annual Turkey Dinner. The drawing will be held before Christmas. Thank you.May God Bless You!Stewardship Team
