First, the context...3. The special relationship to God we have a "chosen pilgrims" (1:2)• chosen generation• royal priesthood• holy nation• His own special people
Observation #1We are to live according to who we are:
(chosen) sojourners and pilgrims.
This is not our home!
1 Peter 2:11
Observation #2Our desires are at war with our souls
1 Peter 2:11
Observation #3Believers will often not be represented
accurately; we need to prove them wrong!
1 Peter 2:12
Observation #4Good works prove false accusations to be
just that; false.
1 Peter 2:12
(Mt. 5:11-16; Tit. 2:11-14; 3:8; James 2:21-26)
Observation #5A key to having our lives delivered is to obey
the government.
1 Peter 2:13
This obedience is to all levels of government.
1 Peter 2:14
Observation #6We obey government "for the Lord's sake"
and because it is the Lord's will.
1 Peter 2:13, 15
Observation #7Our good works in obedience give strong
evidence in our defense.
1 Peter 2:15-16
Christians are often accused of being opposed or disloyal to human government.
Observation #7Peter did not seem to think that Christians
were social revolutionaries
1 Peter 2:17A general respect for all men is deepened into
a love for the brotherhood;
the fear of God is extended to honoring the king.
In summary, three great principles emerge...
1. We are to maintain the spirit of foreigners __________________________________
2. We are to nullify the assault of fleshly lusts __________________________________
3. We are to lay the basis for men to glorify the Lord because of our lives
