First Sunday of Advent - Nativity of Our Lord,...

Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord March 27, 2016 ow there was a virtuous and N righteous man named Joseph who, though he was a member of the council, had not consented to their plan of action. He came from the Jewish town of Arimathea and was awaiting the kingdom of God. He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. After he had taken the body down, he wrapped it in a linen cloth and laid him in a rock-hewn tomb in which no one had yet been buried. It was the day of preparation, and the sabbath was about to begin. The women who had come from Galilee with him followed behind, and when they had seen the tomb and the way in which his body was laid in it, they returned and prepared spices and perfumed oils. Then they rested on the sabbath according to the commandment. ut at daybreak on the first day B of the week they took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb; but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were puzzling over this, behold, two men in dazzling garments appeared to them. They were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground. They said to them, “Why do you seek the living one among the dead? He is not here, but he has been raised. Remember what he said to you while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners and be crucified, and rise on the third day.” And they remembered his words. hen they returned from the T tomb and announced all these things to the eleven and to all the others. Luke 23:50 24:9

Father John, Deacon André and all the staff of Nativity Parish extend to you and your

family our prayerful and most sincere best wishes for a Happy Easter Sunday and a

Blessed Easter Season! May the Risen Lord give you His Easter peace, love and joy!

Our Lent is over! Rejoice now in this holy and glorious day! The beauty of the Easter

Season is now with us. Let this time be opportunities where Christ embraces us during

so much turmoil in our world and Church. We need His comforting presence that

gives us hope and all the strength we need in our lives. Seek deeper trust, stronger

faith and hope, so that God’s love and our love for Him and each other will be felt in

all we do and say.

Let our cry be Alleluia! He lives! He is with us!

RELIGIOUS ED ~ There are no classes today. Classes will resume next Sunday, April 3, at the usual time.

SACRAMENT NEWS~Confirmation 2017--There are Diocesan changes as to when/how and at what age/grade we prepare for and celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation throughout the Diocese. If you family/child did not receive our letter, or received it by mistake, or have specific questions, please call the rectory or Judy, our Coordinator of Religious Education and Sacramental Preparation, at 570-881-4974.

HOLY ROSARY GIFT CERTIFICATES The gift certificates that support Holy Rosary School and our other Diocesan high schools may be purchased on Thursday from 8:00-10:00 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church Hall. What a nice way to do your spring shopping!

FIRST FRIDAY—The First Friday of the month occurs this week. Holy Communion will be brought to your homes according to the usual schedule. Telephone calls will be made to set up convenient times for the home visits. Anyone who is unable to attend Mass because of age or illness is invited to call for a pastoral visit. A special THANKS…to the students of Holy Rosary School for the beautiful and inspirational presentation of the Passion and death of Christ last Sunday evening. There were many favorable comments on how well the students performed. Thanks also to the 8th grade students who assisted in cleaning the church on Monday. They did a super job – their hard work is evident in how well the church looks!

ATTENTION Alumni, Families and Friends of Holy Rosary School……

CEMETERY NOTES--Please be advised that it is “thaw” season at our cemeteries. Rain, snow, cold and sun make for soft earth and sloppy walking conditions. Please stick to paths and stay far from newer graves that have yet to weather and settle – for your safety. We miss our loved ones, and they miss us…but a twisted ankle or a broken wrist from a fall will not make things better. Please, be safe as you make visits & pray for their souls.

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY~EXTRAORDINARY JUBILEE

YEAR OF MERCY--St. Maria Goretti Church in Laflin, will host the Tenth Annual celebration of Divine Mercy for the greater Pittston Area and beyond on April 3rd. This year’s theme is “Mercy” based on the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy 2016, declared by Pope Francis. We are honored to have as this year’s principal celebrant and homilist, Father Pio Mandato, FMHJ. He is a Franciscan priest living as a missionary hermit in the Diocese of Scranton. Father Pio and his parents are from Pietrelcino, Italy where St. “Padre” Pio was raised. Father Pio received his First Holy Communion from St. “Padre” Pio before coming to America. Prior to the service, remarks will be made by Cathy Mack, coordinator and EADM Cenacle leader. Itinerary is as follows: 1:00 PM-Sacrament of Reconciliation(several priests); 2:00 PM-Blessing of the Image of Divine Mercy, followed by Holy Mass; 3:00 PM-Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Divine Mercy Chaplet in song, Meditation on the Glorious Mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary, Benediction and individual blessing with first class relics of St. Faustina. All are invited and most welcome to attend.

LITTLE ROCK SCRIPTURE STUDY: Our Lady of the Eucharist Parish Will Offer Women in the New Testament

This study has 8 sessions, incorporating an Introductory Session and 7 lessons. As in the past, we will skip the Introductory Session and begin with the First Lesson. We will meet on Tuesdays, April 5-12-19-26 and May 3-10-17 with both a morning (8:30-10:00 a.m.) and evening (7-8:30 p.m.) session. The Study Set includes the Study Guide by Catherine Upchurch and a commentary, Women in the New Testament, by Mary Ann Getty-Sullivan (Liturgical Press). This study of New Testament women engages with women across a variety of connections to Jesus and the apostles and studies them accordingly. Participants will encounter the strengths and needs of these women, but also how being a woman in the holy land during the time of Jesus and the apostles shaped many of the challenges they faced in responding to Jesus. Participants will enter into discussion and prayer about expectant faith, what it means to be touched by Jesus, and the meaning of discipleship through the lives of the women who lived in the first generation of Christianity. If interested, please call the parish office at 570-654-0263 or email [email protected].
