About First Movement

Welcome First Movement offers a programme of arts events which develop and promote the unique creativity of learning disabled people. With fabulous resources and over twenty years of experience First Movement invites participants to work together in a positive and supportive atmosphere. This programme is mainly for learning disabled adults in the East Midlands. Events are free but please pre book and arrange your own transport and care support.Project themes this season give scope for all sorts of exploration and will incorporate the creative projects that two of our current trainees have conceived. Look out for ‘Imprints’ and ‘Echoes’, the installation, film and performance projects accompanying the regular activities.

DIRECTIONS This way. That way. In drama or creative movement, follow trails and create floor patterns. Follow the instructions – over, under, straight and winding. Build sculptural structures pointing into space.

ECHOES Go into the echo chamber. Make echoes of each other, copy sounds, copy movements. Ghosts of you yourself in layered film images. Let’s create echoes.

LEVEL MOBILE STUDIO PROJECTS AND LIVE VIDEO LINK The Level Mobile Studio is a tardis for light, colour and sound explorations.

And whether you are at the Level Centre, in Derby, Charnwood or Nottinghamshire you can experience the Live Video Link when groups in Derbyshire at the Level Centre interact with people in the Level Mobile Studio meeting together on the video screen.

SPECIAL EVENTS ECHOES INSTALLATION – ARTIST TIM HAYNES Experience the two digital installations inspired by First Movement as a place or building, the people who use it and the people who work there.

IMPRINTS – ARTIST LEE SMITH Through imprints determine the journey. Culminating with performance and visual arts realised by a wide range of First Movement participants.
