An octagonal patio balances the formality of a square with the congeniality of a circle.

The focal point of the terrace, the fire pit keeps your fire safely contained and makes clean-up easy.

Pea gravel is an attractive, affordable, and easy-to-install paving material.

Start by creating a plan of your property using the Home Outside app. Pick the spot where you will install your Fire Terrace. Once in your yard, measure a 14’-6’’ x 14’-6’’ square. Use landscape stakes to mark the square’s four corners. Use string to connect each stake.

To find the center of the patio, inside of your square, run two diagonal lines from corner to corner. The center of the patio is where the lines cross. Mark this location with a landscape stake—your fire pit will go here later.

From each corner of the square, measure 4’-3’’ towards the center of each side, and mark the spot with a landscape stake. You should place 8 landscape stakes total.

Remove the string connecting the square, and instead connect the 8 new landscape stakes with string. This is the outline of your octagon terrace.

After outlining your octagon terrace, within the octagon, remove the top layer of your existing turf or surface, approximately 4 inches deep.

Install landscape edging along the outer perimeter of the octagon, per manufacturer recommendation. Secure the edging with the included stakes.

If you’re installing the Concrete Ledgestone Fire Pit Kit, place the fire pit in the center of the terrace per manufacturer recommendations.

Fill in the patio with 3/8’’ pea gravel. Optional: To keep the pea gravel clean, lay some landscape fabric down before you place pea gravel. (TIP: You can control weeds by pouring boiling water on any seedlings that sprout up.)

If you’re installing the Cast Iron Outdoor Fire Bowl, place the bowl in the center of the patio on top of the pea gravel.

Place your Adirondack chairs around the fire feature, invite some friends and family over, and enjoy your new fire terrace!
