FIRE DOORSEffective, well-maintained fire doors are required to provide two main functions:

• To maintain any compartmentation of buildings, which has been introduced tolimit the size and spread of fire

• To allow access to protected escape routes, both vertically and horizontally, withoutany loss of fire resistance, and limit smoke movement in the structure forming these routes

With over twenty years of experience in the fire safety sector, Churches Fire & Security has extensive knowledge of fire protection systems, providing a full range of fire door services.

INSPECTIONOur certified fire safety technicians carry out inspections on fire doors every six months, as recommended by BS9999. These are extensive checks to assess the individual components of each door, including:

• Door leaf• Door frame• Door closer (self-closing devices)• Hinges• Intumescent door strip and cold smoke seals• Glazing (vision panels)• Locks and lever handles• Fire safety signage• Hold-open devices• Gaps around the doors and threshold gaps• Panic hardware devices for external final fire exit doors

All fire doors should be able to self-close effectively, from any angle of opening. To ensure this, any door sets with hold-open devices should be closed daily.

Intumescent seals are designed to expand once activated by fire, sealing the gap between the door and the frame.

These should be checked on a regular basis, with damaged or missing seals being replaced immediately.

It is essential that fire doors maintain their structural integrity and function correctly in the event of a fire.

We provide a service tailored to the requirements of your organisation. In buildings where fire doors are subject to frequent use, such as hospitals, schools or shopping centres, we will work with you to develop a more regular inspection schedule.

We are proud of our client-focused approach, so you can be sure that your company’s requirements are taken into consideration.

MAINTENANCEFire doors are carefully engineered products that provide life and property saving functions in the event of a fire. Regular inspection and maintenance ensures they are always ready to perform with full compliance.
