Potential. Opportunity. Resilience. Thriving. Independence. Such powerful words.

These words, among many more, describe your impact through The Center for Youth and Family Solutions. The organization’s programs effectively bring about long-term solutions that change the lives of children, families and seniors.

As Board President, I am pleased to share with you that in FY’17 the agency helped more than 17,000 people coping with traumatic life storms such as abuse

and neglect, depression, grief, and family crisis. Our interventions helped youth and families find the power of resilience and strength and provided the opportunity

to cope, heal, and thrive.

As a result, I add another well-suited word to this list: Inspiring.

I am inspired by what I see at CYFS, because not only are the staff deeply committed to finding solutions and changing lives, but they are also committed to being an organization that is constantly learning, applying new research and promising practices, and improving their delivery of services and outcomes.

For instance, this past year our Guardian Angel program was one of only five residential treatment centers in Illinois selected to be part of an extensive training program on trauma sponsored by the Center for Child Trauma Assessment, Services and Interventions at Northwestern University. This training enhances our front line residential staff’s ability to respond effectively to the behavioral and emotional challenges unique to traumatized youth.

Our adoption program is one of the leading programs in the state - finding forever families for children in foster care who need permanent loving homes. Committed to reducing the time it takes to finalize an adoption after parental rights have been terminated, CYFS shared their expertise in a statewide project tasked with streamlining the state of Illinois’ adoption process. When these changes were piloted last year, they effectively reduced the amount of time a child has to wait for a forever home by 53%. That’s 296 less days each child has to wait to feel a real sense of home and the security of a forever family through adoption. Now that, is truly inspiring!

These are just two examples of how CYFS works - not only helping people to heal, cope and thrive every day, but also in striving for excellence in the delivery of their services to help children and families heal faster, cope more thoroughly, and thrive more resolutely. As Board President for CYFS, I am happy to share even more of our outcomes for those we serve and the impact on our communities in this FY’17 Annual Report.

Last but certainly not least, I want to impress upon you how none of the incredible outcomes you will read about in this report could have happened if we didn’t have your support. From all of us at CYFS, we want to thank you for being part of the solution and believing in the enduring strength of the human and community spirit. Together, we truly are changing lives!
