Getting startedBefore you purchase solar, you need to apply for approval to connect to our network. This is to ensure your system meets our technical requirements and can safely connect to the electricity grid, without impacting on the reliability of supply to the town. Here’s an overview of the process: Step 1: Find out if you are eligible Visit www.horizonpower.com.au/solar and use our online calculator to find out if you are eligible to install solar and apply for the renewable energy buyback offer.

Step 2: Locate an installer Locate an accredited Clean Energy Council installer at www.solaraccreditation.com.au Your installer will discuss your usage patterns, technical requirements, the installation process and provide a quote.

Step 3: Submit an application When you’re happy to proceed, visit our website and complete an online application form to connect to our network. You must receive approval from Horizon Power in writing before purchasing a solar energy system.

Step 4: Assessment and approval We will notify both you and your installer in writing within 10 working days to let you know the outcome of your application. Additional information may be requested. For larger systems, technical studies and generation management may be required.

Step 5: Installation Once your application has been approved to connect to the grid, your installer can proceed with the installation and get your system connected.

Step 6: Completion and billing Once we receive the completion notice from your contractor we will reconfigure your meter. If you’re eligible, your buyback will appear on your next bill. Note: for larger systems, there may be further requirements.

Sell back your excess electricity If you don’t use all of the energy you generate, we may be able to buy back excess electricity you export into the electricity system. This is called the renewable energy buyback offer. We offer the buyback price to eligible residential customers who wish to install a five kilowatt or less renewable energy system. For systems that are over five kilowatt in size, we offer a buyback price in towns where the cost of generating electricity is high. Visit www.horizonpower.com.au/solar to check your eligibility and find out the buyback rate in your town.

Download our app Download our free app from one of the following online stores. Your solar installer will review your energy usage history to recommend a system that’s right for your property. You can download this data directly from the app. Once your solar is installed, the app will provide you with a monthly breakdown of the excess solar energy your system is feeding back into the grid.
