FindSpark x Prince George’s Community College

Overview: Virtual Ambassador

Teresa Johnson• Prince George’s Community College• SGA Director of Public Relations• Class of 2018• General Studies Major (with focus on

Communications and Journalism)• Entrepreneur and “Editor-in-Chief for

Psych2Go Magazine”

Goal: • Spread the word about FindSpark to students to help them build

themselves in their career• Have peers utilize the FindSpark network virtually• Recruit members to the FindSpark community – Future campus

ambassadors.• Host a FindSpark seminar about career building opportunities.

Accomplishments:

• Connected with Career Services to host a FindSpark event that I would be conducting student-to-student. Gave a brief overview to career Services with a PowerPoint and mentioned my own story that would help inspire students regarding the release of a Psychology(Psych2Go) magazine I manage.

• Talked face-to-face with fellow students who participated in FindSpark events. One friend attended an Interviewing virtual workshop hosted by Emily Miethner, confirming by live-tweeting on Twitter.

FindSpark exposure among constituents:

Campus Activation:• Spoke with career services to

host my own event and will be speaking to students on the 19th of November. Created a flyer and posted around social media to endorse the event. In the process of creating a Facebook group event to bring in more people. I also passed out 50 print flyers to peers, inviting them to the event.

• Hosted a FindSpark seminar and I spoke to my peers about the pertinence of using LinkedIn, how to present yourself on social media, resume tips, and how to network with people through social media.

Launching the Event:• I created a PowerPoint,

consisting of original elements and elements from previous FindSpark presentations for the event.

• I had people sign-in at the event with their emails and names to email them after the event was over.

• The event was held in Accokeek 221, upstairs in the Prince George’s Community College Library.

• 15 people came out to the event in total!

During the Event:• I had an assortment of

refreshments at the back for students as they came in.

• To get students involved I conducted a speed interview where they interviewed each other to learn something new about their peers and their career paths. Whoever could tell me three things about another person they met received a chocolate bar.

• I also told them to tweet after the event for a chance to win free FindSpark premium membership.

In the Spring semester of 2016, I hope to have one or two workshops at an extension center for my community

college to teach them about entrepreneurship, the power of social media, and the pertinent connections you are

capable of making.

Reaching Goals:1. I was able to get students more involved and immersed in FindSpark events.

2. Even though I endorsed the event through social media, and created a Facebook event, and had other social media partners in the school circulate the events, community college relies on endorsement of events heavily through word-of-mouth promotion. I handed out flyers for my event, gave students an overview of FindSpark and let students know that they could benefit from career building by attending and learning more about the company’s endeavors.

3. By collecting everyone's emails from the event, I was able to follow up with them by attaching a survey to the “Thank you” email that asked them what kinds of things they would like to see at another FindSpark event or what they would like Emily Miethner to speak about in an opportunity to participate in a virtual webinar.

4. Some students, specifically those majoring in Mass Communications, claimed they were interested in participating in campus ambassador programs such as FindSpark, and they plan to speak to me later about their interest in possibly joining.

5. After pitching FindSpark and speaking with career services about the company and its benefits, they wanted me to host FindSpark events at the College’s extension center to inspire and assist other students in career building opportunity.
