FINANCIAL EXECUTIVES INTERNATIONAL MONTHLY NEWSLETTER Los Angeles Chapter www.financialexecutives.org SEPTEMBER 2012 FEI-LA is starting the season with a panel discussion of the opportunities and challenges for aerospace and defense companies. Approximately 11% of manufacturing jobs in the greater L.A. area are aerospace jobs, and record orders of commercial aircraft at this year’s Farnborough Air Show (and increased demand for private aircraft and space exploration) should provide many opportunities for L.A.-based aerospace companies, even as defense spending is decreasing. Large prime contractors have increased expectations of second tier vendors, who face challenges in raising capital for investment in new products and services. Dear Members, Welcome to the new program year! First, I would like to thank our past president, Bill Beech, and last year’s Chapter leadership team for their hard work in delivering a successful year. For me, some of the highlights were how we gave back to the community with several successful Habitat for Humanity outings, the great dinner and PD speakers, our participation in a joint session with the Orange County Chapter, and the wonderful outing to the Santa Anita Racetrack. Next I’d like to recognize and acknowledge the support we receive from our Chapter Friends. Their participation in our Chapter is integral to our success. They are our colleagues, confidants, friends, and they provide the financial support to help us pursue innovative Chapter programs. The incoming Chapter officers have been hard at work this summer shaping the 2012 – 2013 program. We have some new faces as officers and the steady hand of our board, made up of former Chapter presidents. This is driving a healthy, creative flow of ideas. We are putting the finishing touches on the speaker line-up, designing ways to grow our membership base, and forging even stronger links with the national organization. I am looking forward to another great year and appreciate your continued support. Thank you. SEPTEMBER 2012

FEI-LA is starting the season with a panel discussion of the opportunities and challenges for aerospace and defense companies.

Dear Members,

Welcome to the new program year!First, I would like to thank our past president, Bill

Beech, and last year’s Chapter leadership team for their hard work in delivering a successful year.

Thank you.

WHAT’S ON YOUR MIND?

The Los Angeles chapter of FEI has targeted a membership growth goal this year of at least 10%. To achieve this, we are offering Chapter members an opportunity to earn a $100 American Express gift card for each qualified prospect who joins the L.A. Chap-ter, up to a maximum of the member’s local chapter annual dues during that annual period. New member dues must be paid in full. This program is effective for the 2012-2013 fiscal year.

One of the best ways to attract member prospects is to invite one or two qualified guests to each monthly meeting and educate them about the benefits of membership.

EXAMPLES OF MEMBER-ONLY BENEFITS INCLUDE:> FEI Career Center, career management services and professional advancement

resources> Continuing professional education (CPE) credits> Local peer networking and education through involvement in lunches, mixers, so-

cial, holiday and dinner speaker events> National conferences and webcasts> The latest thought leadership in finance, accounting and corporate governance,

including accounting, reporting and tax updates, emerging issue alerts and regula-tory updates

> Advocacy, including government affairs, accounting policies and comment letters> Access to public, private, non-profit and government Boards> FEI member discount health and insurance plans.Active participation in Chapter events offers additional personal and professional

benefits, such as enhancing leadership, communications and cross-functional skills; mentoring the next generation of finance and accounting professionals; and volunteer-ing in the local community. We all benefit from getting to know existing and new peers of FEI, and from creating greater brand awareness in FEI. The more we differentiate ourselves as the premier organization of senior finance and accounting executives, the more influential and valuable we become.

ARE YOU IN BETWEEN JOBS OR THINK YOU MAY SOON BE

The LA Chapter wants to help you obtain a new position. Here are several ways we can assist you:> Bob Havlik of our Career Services Committee receives job opening notices from

search firms and others. He forwards these to FEI members on his email list. To get on Bob’s distribution list, email him at [email protected] and put “Add my name to FEI email list” in the SUBJECT line. To advise Bob of an opening, please email him with the specifics.

> Attend Chapter functions and meet members and Friends who may be aware of opportunities.

> In order to renew your annual dues in the Career Transition category, you must contact Mary Mulvaney at FEI HQ for approval. Mary can be reached at [email protected] or 973/765-1016 (FEI HQ DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP IN THIS CATEGORY)

We hope you will SHARE TIPS or EXAMPLES that have WORKED FOR YOU!
