Rules

This is also a rules slide

After the wild popularity of yesterday’s rules slide, we decided to include one today

too

I hear Mod...oops QM is God

Also, partial points only when we deem it valid.

Your QMs could be extremely sleep-deprived, so refrain from any sudden loud

outbursts lest you give them a stroke

In the Lord of the Rings, Treebeard, also known as Fangorn, was the oldest of the

ents left in Middle-earth, an ancient tree-like being who is a "shepherd of trees".

Tolkien "began to sketch the episode where two of the hobbits encounter

Treebeard, the being who was the ultimate expression of Tolkien's love and

respect for trees. When eventually he came to write this chapter (so he told Nevill

Coghill) he modelled Treebeards' way of speaking, 'Hrum, Hroom,' on the

booming voice of ______."

The Thinker is a very famous sculpture by Auguste Rodin that was originally to be

called The Poet. It was commissioned to be a doorway surround for his other

piece of work, The Gates of Hell, before Rodin also made it an independent art

work for other places. Its high stature in the artwork for The Gates of Hell and its

central placement has led many critics to speculate that this is a certain poet

pondering his great poem surrounded by many of his characters.

In 1940 X was living in France when the Germans showed up. After spending

nearly a year in internment as an enemy alien, he was released and allowed to

live in Berlin and occupied Paris. While in Berlin, he recorded six radio broadcasts

recounting his experiences as a captive of the Germans. They were meant to be

humorous talks in typical X style, and they contained no pro-German or anti-British

propaganda, but when second-hand information about their production finally

filtered back to England, they went over very badly. Wodehouse reacted to the

criticism by emigrating to the United States, becoming an American citizen, and

never coming back to England for the rest of his life. He still got a knighthood from

Queen Elizabeth II in 1975. He died the same year at the age of 93, saying that

with his knighthood and a waxwork in Madame Tussaud's, he had achieved all of

his life's ambitions.

___ _________ are an English band that is often credited by rock critics and

historians for giving rise to the birth of psychedelic music, and influencing many

future genres like punk rock and progressive rock. They had many chart-toppers

in the 1960s like “For Your Love” and “Heart Full of Soul”. Despite them being very

successful in their own right, we know this band for a different reason from the

world of music.

X is a school of art that originated in the wake of World War 1. The belief of its

practitioners was that "the war to end all wars" was such a brutal, devastating and

ultimately meaningless conflict that such an ugly world didn't deserve art. So, in

response, the practitioners of X gave the world anti-art.

The famous picture of the Mona Lisa with a moustache and goatee is an example

of X.

The movement died out for a few reasons, the primary of them being that people

started liking the art that was made which defeated the entire purpose.

DEATH BATTLE! Is a popular YouTube show which pits pop culture’s deadliest

characters against each other. The hosts analyze the fighters' weapons, armor,

and skills to find the winner of each battle.

While they usually pair characters from different universes who have similar

abilities, their season 3 finale paired off characters whose only trait in common is

their tendency to smash through the fourth wall. X is from a sparkly children’s TV

Show that has episodes named ‘Sonic Rainboom’ and ‘The Cutie Mark

Chronicles’ while Y is arguably the funniest, most cynical and insane of their

franchise.

X is a collection of 6 epic poems (and the few incomplete Mutabilitie Cantos)

written by Edmund Spenser as a gift for Queen Elizabeth. The first three books

were published in 1590 and the next 3 in 1596.

Spenser's plan was to write 24 books — the first 12 each starring a knight who

personifies one of the 12 Private Virtues, and the rest starring Prince Arthur, who

personifies the 12 Public Virtues. Unfortunately Edmund Spenser died and the

books never actually show the titular character and Prince Arthur never meets his

true love.

In the words of the artist himself, "On my guitar I used light-gauge guitar strings,

with a very thin first string, which made it easier to bend the notes, and it was not

uncommon during the most frenetic bits of playing for me to break at least one

string.” His oddity of changing his strings on the stage led to audiences clapping

out this delay, for which the British colloquialism is “to be given the X”. This is how

the artist got his nickname X.

Claude Rains' daughter tells of a time when the two went to see this movie in the

theater years after it was made. It was bitterly cold and his face was completely

covered by a hat and scarf. When he spoke to ask for the tickets, the attendant

immediately recognized his voice and wanted to let them in for free. Rains was

quite upset at this and demanded that he pay full price.

This song that is one of the all-time most famous songs, actually topped charts

only in 2007 for the first time. This was because the band had never released this

song as a single, but in 2007 their catalogue was made available as legal digital

downloads, making it eligible for chart considerations finally. The reason for the

lack of a single release was that the band had not anticipated this song getting

radio air-time because of its longer than usual length.

This song X was written before the band was even formed. Y, a band member,

gave a demo of this song to Colin, who joined him and helped in the formation of

the rest of the band. It was based on an earlier song “The Air I Breathe”, written by

Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood, because of which Y agreed to share the

credits for X with aforementioned people.

One of the extras in the video for the song is a teenage Kieran Hebden, aka Four

Tet, an artist famous for mixing Y and the band’s songs.

The author of X was inspired to write this novel after witnessing the death of a

woman throwing herself at a train, and coming to know she was the wife of a

wealthy landowner. The character of Levin is often said to be the author himself,

because of the struggles he faces with death, morality, and religion. Like the

protagonist of X, the author too met his demise at a train station due to

tuberculosis in 1910. The likes of Martin Luther King Jr. and Gandhi count as this

author as one of their major influences

This episode of a certain very long running TV show is the highest rated among all

its episodes. It comes from a short story that the writer X had originally written for

the show’s 2006 annual book, titled “What I Did On My Summer Holidays, by Sally

Sparrow”. The antagonists X decided to add to this adaptation were actually

supposed to be for another episode, but the lack of any good ideas made him add

the antagonists here instead. The success of this episode is also more surprising

as the protagonist is rarely featured in this episode.

Name the episode.

In X the 'Thaum' is the smallest unit of magic and several students at the Unseen

University are trying to split it to the horror of their elders. They theorise that the

Thaum is made up of Resons and that Resons consist of five different flavours:

up, down, sideways, sex appeal and peppermint.

This humorous analogy to quarks is a characteristic feature of X which is famous

for its particular brand of ridiculous satire.

A very common term in today’s parlance came to its present usage from the final

sketch of the 25th show of Monty Python's Flying Circus. In the sketch, an

argument develops between the waitress, who recites a menu in which nearly

every dish contains X (the term) and Mrs Bun, who does not like X.

The word X is uttered at least 132 times, aided by a group of Vikings who

occasionally sing about X. These connotations of repetition and unwantedness led

to the current usage of the term.
