What is FYP?

FYP is a structured research activity relevant to the School ofBioprocess Engineering’s area of specialization and it isCOMPULSORY for final year students to undertake andcomplete a project as part of the requirement for theconferment of the bachelor’s degree in engineering

The Final Year Project (FYP) consists of an individual piece of work of 15,000-20,000 words in length, on a subject of

the student’s own choosing.

AIM

• The main aim of the FYP is to expose and to enhancestudent’s knowledge and competency in solving a problemthrough academic research in order to produce competentengineers/ technologists in the 21st century in line withUniMAP’s Mission and Vision.

OBJECTIVES

• After completing the FYP, students are required to show theability to:

• modulate and utilize academic knowledge and practicalexperience in conducting an academic project

• think objectively, analytically and critically in identifying andsolving problems in a systematic manner

• work independently in conducting and completing anacademic project

• present the final results orally and graphically

Proposal Defence

In the Proposal Defence, students are required to present their

FYP background of study, problem statement, objectives,

project scope, literature review, methodology, expected result,

gantt chart and milestones to a panel of evaluators.

The panel members will test the students on matters related to

the project. In the Proposal defence session, students need to

give an overall view of the FYP and the proposed method to

achieved the objectives.

Outcome: Pass/ proceed with the experiment procedure or

reviva/ re-proposal defence.

Students are required to attend re-viva session if the panel decide to do so.

FYP LOG BOOK

• The FYP log book is a combination of generalguidelines for the FYP and also a journal torecord all FYP activities throughout the twosemesters.

• This book is an important mechanism for theCoordinator/Supervisor to evaluate astudent's attitude and ability and also tomonitor the status of the student's projectthroughout the semester.

Page 31: Final Year Project 2017/2018 - Universiti Malaysia Perlisportal.unimap.edu.my/portal/page/portal30/Lecture Notes... · 2017. 9. 12. · Aimi Athirah Aznan (013-536 2813) 11.En. ...

• Students are required to write clearly and honestly allactivities performed and then to summarize their workevery week.

• This is essential since part of the final marks receivedby the students on their FYP will be based on whatthey have recorded in this log book.

• Every meeting with supervisor need to have aminutes of meeting and date of the minutes meetingmust be tally with “report on meeting date betweenstudent and supervisor” (Page 6-8, log book)

• Students are highly encouraged to maintain aseparate file/folder to compile all theirfindings/printouts/datasheets as a complement to thislog book.
