Physiographic Setting

The area is flat to gently rolling, drainage is moderate to poor with many large marshes and bogs, otherwise vegetation is a thick fir and spruce. Average elevation is 150 m, maximum elevation within 5 km is 360 m.

Previous Work The area first drew attention as a result of a 1954 regional airborne survey which showed a very interesting magnetic anomaly in the area.

In the late 1950's Falconbridge prospected the Seal Bay area; the result of this work is a 1" to 2 mile geology map of the area. On March 1, 1971 Norex-Noranda Exploration Co. Ltd., entered into an exploration agreement with Nalco-Newfoundland and Labrador Corporation Limited in Nalco's Lot 2 referred to as the Point Leamington Subconcession. During the period up to 1974 Noranda carried out an extensive and comprehensive exploration program over the area. In January 1972, Questor Surveys Ltd., flew an airborne EM survey over most of the area; various ground follow-up geophysical surveys, soil and stream sediment geochemical surveys, trenchings and test pitting, diamond drilling, prospecting and geological mapping of the entire area on a scale of 1": 1320'. Large mineralized boulders coincident with geophysical anomalies resulted in the discovery of the deposit by diamond drilling in 1971. For the three years of active work (71-73) Noranda drilled a total of 53 holes for 8,377.7 m in and around the deposit. In the early 1970's (72-74) the Nfld. Dept. of Mines and Energy carried out pilot geochemical exploration studies, with surficial geological support, to test and evaluate the effectiveness of various regional and detailed techniques for base-metal exploration within two distinct geological terrains in Newfoundland. Studies were carried out near a massive sulphide base-metal deposit in Ordovician Wild Bight Group volcanic rocks in the Notre Dame Bay area, and near zinc sulphide deposits in Cambro - Ordovician carbonate rocks on the Great Northern Peninsula at Daniel's Harbour. Rubicon Minerals Corporation acquired a 100% interest in the Point Leamington massive sulphide deposit in north-central Newfoundland in September, 1998. In May, 1999, Rubicon formed a strategic alliance with Billiton Exploration Canada Ltd. (a subsidiary of Billiton Plc). Billiton purchased a 3.4% equity stake in the Company by investing C$400,000 at $0.70 per unit; Rubicon also granted Billiton the option to earn a majority interest in one of Rubicon's Newfoundland base metal projects. In Decmeber 1999, Rubicon conducted a Phase I, 1000 metre drill program to evaluate targets related to the higher grade Zn-Au zone that had been only partially explored by Noranda. In February 1999, Rubicon announced that a new footwall target had been identified in Phase I drilling and a Phase II, minimum 8-hole, 2000 metre NQ drill program will commence to test this new target. Rubicon plans the Phase II drilling to be completed before the end of March, 2000.

Page 8 Geology and Mineralization

Geological Province: Appalachian

Tectonic Zone: Dunnage

Stratigraphic Unit: Wild Bight Group - Side Harbour Formation

Geological Age: Middle Ordovician

Rock Type(s): Rhyolitic agglomerate, porphyritic rhyolite, rhyolitic quartz-porphyry. The Wild Bight Group underlies approximately 1000 square km in the Exploits Subzone of central Notre Dame Bay. A stratigraphic thickness of more than 10 km was estimated by Dean (1978). The many minor folds and facing reversals within the section suggests that this is only an order of magnitude estimate. Approximately 85% of the Wild Bight group comprises epiclastic rocks, the remaining 15% being mainly mafic and lesser felsic volcanic rocks. Mafic dykes and sills interpreted to be subvolcanic are abundant throughout the sequence. The northern part of the Wild Bight Group is disposed in a broad anticlinal structure, the Seal Bay anticline, the axis of which trends approximately north-south through the centre of Seal Bay. Strata interpreted to be the exposed base of the sequence outcrop in Seal Bay Bottom in the core of this anticline. Although there are many local facing-reversals due to minor folds, the stratified rocks generally face outward from the anticlinal axis. They pass conformably on both limbs into the overlying fossiliferous shale and chert of the Caradocian Shoal Arm Formation which contains a graptolite fauna indicating a late Llandeilo-early Caradoc age. This provides the only direct constraint on the age of the Wild Bight Group. Folds of the same generation as the Seal Bay anticline are generally moderately open and upright. An axial planar cleavage is very locally developed in argillaceous rocks. The Wild Bight Group is cut by numerous north-east-trending faults which show abundant evidence for dextral strike-slip movement. In addition, there are strata-parallel faults that locally disrupt the stratigraphy. The movement history of these faults has not been studied. Epiclastic rocks are the dominant lithology in the wild Bight Group. They can be broadly described in terms of a tripartite stratigraphic succession. Further systematic mapping is needed to adequately define the distribution of the sedimentary rock types, the nature of the contacts between them and the details of the facies associations. 1) Basal, Fine Grained Clastic Unit

Page 12: Final report 2nd Year Assessment lic 016325m-016329m Seal Baygis.geosurv.gov.nl.ca/geofilePDFS/Batch2016/002E_1728.pdf · 2016. 8. 25. · Lic 016326 This claim was covered by research

The basal unit of the Wild Bight Group comprises up to 500 m thickness of red and green argillite, chert and siltstone with lesser pebbly sandstone and minor fine grained conglomerate. It includes a single, 6 m thick member of carbonaceous black argillite exposed on a small island in Seal Bay Bottom. This unit was previously referred to as the Omega Point Formation. 2) Central Sandstone Turbidites- Debris Flow Conglomerate Unit The transition from the basal fine grained clastic unit to the overlying coarser grained epiclastic rocks is gradational. The basal part of the turbidite-debris flow unit comprises rhythmically bedded, cyclic pairs of laminated sandstone/siltstone/chert and fine to medium grained, matrix-supported conglomerate. In many exposures, ABCD and BCD Bouma sequences can be recognized. Clasts in the conglomeratic beds reflect the proportions of the lithologies in the nearby succession. The clasts generally show little or no preferred orientation, stratification or imbrication and the rocks are interpreted as debris flows. The thickness and abundance of the debris flow units and the maximum and average size of the clasts increases steadily northeastward along the east shore of Seal Bay. 3) Upper Fine Grained Sandstone, Siltstone and Argillite Unit The upper, fine grained clastic facies of the Wild Bight Group is well exposed along the shores of Badger Bay, Leading Tickles and Wild Bight, New Bay. The transition with the underlying turbidite-debris flow unit is gradational. Epiclastic rocks in this upper sequence are generally finer grained than, and lack the prominent debris flows of the underlying sequence. A single 40 cm thick limestone bed occurs in the bottom of Wild Bight, New Bay. Volcanic rocks are not as prevalent and occur mainly in the eastern and central parts of the Wild Bight Group, outcropping in eleven separate geographic areas. They exhibit a considerable range in thickness, stratigraphic setting and lateral extent, with the exception of the Nanny Bag Lake and Long Pond units, they comprise dominantly mafic pillow lava or pillow breccia. Five units include felsic volcanics, which generally occur as small domes within the sequence.

Prospecting 2011-12 The properties were researched by reviewing assement reports and reviewing existing government maps and data. Three days were used to travel to St John’s and review the data. Float plane used to prospect claims in the summer. Snow machine was used to do one days of prospecting in the winter. In both cases a cabin was used as a base camp from New Bay Lake. The program consisted of a collection of soils in 1kg bags, stream seds in 1 kg bags and lake seds. The samples were taked back to my lab whwere I have a wet sink for panning. The samples were panned for vg and As. This was tonId and As anomaly as that is the best path finder for the area.

Lic 016325 This claim was covered by research at St John’s. We flew the claims in the are with a 4 person Piper Float plane from our base cabin on New Bay Lake. Two day s trips were made by 2 prospectorsin the area. The rock seen was of the wild bight group and were volcanic siliciclastic or mafic marine.
