Quotes“And there was a beautiful view but nobody could see cause everybody on the island was saying look at me! Look at me!”
○ Laurie Anderson
“Hopefully through the media and through word of mouth people will find out that those lights are controlled by participation. As more and more people create light designs with their voice, and tune-in to the resulting sound program, we will see more variety, until the piece is a reasonable representation of the city’s past and present.”

How My Project Relates to My Artists● Laurie Anderson
○ She does a lot of performance art pieces■ My project has some aspects of performance art
because my models are doing motions/dancing● Rafael Lozano-Hemmer
○ He involves the public and wants people to participate in his art■ My project involves the public because my models
volunteered to be part of this project
Step 1 - Research & Models● Conduct research on how honey bees live
inside and outside of their hive○ There is one queen bee (female model),
there are drone bees (male model) and there are worker bees (female model).
● Find people to volunteer to use as my models○ My sister, my cousin and my boyfriend all
volunteered
Research from: https://www.orkin.com/stinging-pests/bees/honey-bees/colony/
Step 2 - Iterations and Stencils● I made 2 different iterations for each model● I drew my own honeycombs and bees, then put them into
illustrator and made them different sizes● I used blank stencil sheets and an x-acto knife to cut out my
stencils
Step 3 - Painting and Pictures/Videos● TAG Body Paint - using brushes and
sponges○ Yellow, Gold, Orange, Brown, Black and
White● Painting one model at a time, I taped the
stencils onto their body and sponged the paint in, then I used brushes for tiny detail and to hand paint the bees
● Pictures/Videos○ In field, woods, grass, tree, etc.
