September 19-22, Amsterdam, The Netherlands - 1 -

Dear delegates,

On behalf of the ESCMID Study Group on Biofilms (ESGB) it is our great pleasure to

welcome you to Amsterdam for Eurobiofilms 2017. This European congress on

microbial biofilms is organized for the 5th time and is attracting a large international

audience.

With over 250 participants from 30 different countries it is clear that this conference

contributes to connecting people in the biofilm field. This connection is

interdisciplinary as becomes clear by the upcoming special virtual joint issue of FEMS

Pathogens and Disease and FEMS Microbiology Ecology, illustrating that there are no

fundamental distinctions between medical and ecological biofilms.

Besides the academic interest, industry has also developed a keen interest in biofilm

research. We are therefore very happy to see that 9 companies have decided to

support and participate in our meeting, illustrating the social importance of this

meeting.

In addition to the exchange of scientific information and insights, the main purpose

of this meeting is to (re-)connect and advance research in the field of biofilms. The

program is setup to facilitate contact time and the venue offers a range of

possibilities to meet and discuss in larger and smaller groups.

We think that this meeting offers you an interesting program, and we hope that you

will enjoy this meeting in both a scientific and social perspective.

Bastiaan Krom,

Rob Exterkate

Michel Hoogenkamp

Oral Presentations.

Audio-visual equipment

• The auditoria at the Congress venue will be equipped with PC’s which support the

use of all recent versions of Microsoft PowerPoint.

• Please bring your presentation on a USB stick. Make sure to have a backup

somewhere.

• All presenters are strongly recommended to use the PCs provided by the

organisation and should upload their presentation in the break before their session

the latest, and preferably earlier.

• If you are bringing your own laptop, please check that you are able to hook up your

laptop to the video projector (through a VGA port) at least in the break before your

session.

• We recommend you to bring your own electrical adapter as well.

• There will be no Preview Room available.

Presentation

• Speakers are requested to present themselves to the chairperson in the lecture

room, 10 minutes prior to the beginning of their session.

• Each presentation is scheduled to last for 15 minutes, which means approx. 10

minutes for the actual presentation, leaving 5 minutes for questions.

Poster Presentations

All posters should be mounted on Wednesday, 20th of September by 09:00 and

will remain mounted for the duration of the Congress. Materials for mounting your

poster are made available.

All posters must be removed after the final session on Friday, September 22nd

2017. Posters that will not be removed at the end of the Congress will be removed

by the organizers, who cannot be held responsible for any damages.

Each abstract selected for a poster presentation has been assigned a poster board

code. This code starts with a letter (A-D) indicating the Poster Session followed by a

number.

All poster boards are consecutively numbered and the letters indicate the poster

session.

You are expected to be at your assigned space and time to present your work.
