My Internship Experience

Marketing and Promotions Internship
• Ryan Gilmore – Director of Marketing and Promotions
• Responsible for all promotional activities at EIU events
• Given guidelines then go our director with them• Log own hours and send at the end of the week• Monthly reports
Responsibilities
• Announce at baseball and softball games• Media timeouts during basketball games (16,12,8, 4)• Control sound board with music (sound director) • Pull participants from crowd and run promotions
such as: dizzy bat, musical chairs, name that tune, dash for cash, etc.
• Organize events such as Fastest Kid in Charleston and Stuffed Animal Day, Kay Yow Foundation (Paint the Hall Pink)
Marketing Aspects
• Product– Eastern Illinois Athletics (baseball, softball, basketball)
• Target Market– EIU students, surrounding community, local businesses,
families, die hard fans, alumni/ former student athletes, parents
• Competitors– Apathy of students, movie theatres, bowling alleys, bars or
restaurants (alcohol), UB events (7th Street Underground), Religious events, Intramurals or the Rec Center in general, etc.
Promotional Plan
• Create and follow game scripts• Trying to bring in more fans (initial buy) and
have them come back (repeat purchases)– Usually done through game day promotions – Make students want to stay whole event
• Pricing advantage to members of Panther Club, Panther Pack Kids’ Club, corporate agreements, large groups (school groups)

What have I done?
• Helped organize an event on Feb. 21, 2009 with the Volunteer Services & Guild and the pediatric unit at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital.
• Collected new stuffed animals
• With animal = free admission to the game
