First i established the concept oF maniFestation. this Was derived From los angeles history With bicycles, their ideas oF making the city a bike Friendly haven that Wasn’t Fully FulFilled. i used the idea oF history to draW imaginary datums From the site to Form a bounding boX betWeen the site’s oldest and neWest buildings, as Well as, taking From the usc campus to pull From its old grid layout. spaces along the site For the sideWalk surFac-es Were determined From looking at the usc campus’ courtyards across the street. by using eXposition blvd as an aXis, these spaces Were mirrored over and used as the bounding areas For these surFaces. the design For the bicycle station itselF Was chosen based on the eXpe-rience oF tWo people; a passerby and a user. there are tWo sets oF surFaces housing the station, one to cre-ate a grand appearance From someone passing by and the other to emphasize the Feeling oF enclosure For someone inside te space. the elevated bikeWay built With the masterplan Was brought over, to the architecture, to create a centralized area For cyclist Within the site.

spatial sequence model

the distinction oF spaces and circulation through the understanding oF spatial relationships and or-ganizations. by looking through a piece oF eXisting architecture and breaking doWn the spaces. the outcome is to create a model oF interlocking piec-es, directly related to the spaces and circulation oF the residency, that dismantles in the sequence oF a person traversing through it.

a physical representation Was built to demon-strate the sequence that i Formed For this resi-dence. the darker Wood, made oF a Walnut veneer, is the poche. these spaces consisted oF tWo re-strooms, a stairWell in the master bedroom, as Well as, the space Within the Fireplace. the public spaces are represented With the acrylic volumes. the traluscence oFthe acrylic alloWs For the bass Wood, representing the circulation paths through the spaces, to be visible Within the model.

the study oF a speciFic structural design in Which maXimum surFace is acheived over a structural Form. the surFace Will consist oF a set oF aggrigated toles to acheive a gradi-ency throughout.

skin and bones

to create the Form, i began at the ‘ribs’ that are designed to support it the surFace. sim-ple rectangles Were manipulated; stretched, skeWed, and rotated. they Were then rebuilt Within the modeling program as a continuous line. the line Was oFFset to create a surFace and then built into a polysurFace.

through the course oF understanding beginning ideas oF design, accompanied With the 10a-12a courses, this proJect is to create an eXperience under given re-straints. eFFectively applying the medium oF a physical model to translate the idea.

For the proJect there Was a limit oF a one Foot cube Where the design could be made Within. a concept had to be decided upon oF Which the model Would be based on.

the plan For the design Was to create an volume With-in the cube that Would convey the eXperience oF con-verging shapes, using mutiple planes Within the volume to make them Feel volumetric. an important aspect Was to the engage the vieWer by making them pickup or drop doWn to the level oF the obJect.
